The Friday Docback Succumbs To 'The Influenza Of Merrick'!!

Published at: Jan. 11, 2013, 9:28 a.m. CST by merrick

Merrick here...

Been fighting off an astonishingly potent form of flu this week.  Bed ridden, very high fevers, many meds to keep ick from racing into my lungs (once you have a history of respiratory maladies like pneumonia and asthma...as I do...the dangers and complications surrounding a flu become different and more complex than they are for many people).

So...not a great deal was accomplished this week in any way, shape or form.  Unfortunately, this includes the Docback.

Nonetheless, I'm providing a few talking points for your consideration below.  A proper Docback will follow next week presuming recovery continues (slowly but surely this seems to be the case).

By the way, in last week's Docback, several of you expressed interest in contributing Big Finish reviews, or DOCTOR WHO book reviews, etc. I'd LOVE this.  If you're still into the notion, drop me a line (PLEASE BE SURE TO INCLUDE THE WORD 'DOCBACK' IN THE SUBJECT LINE) and let's make it happen.  I'd be giddy to see the Docback become more rich and touch on a wider variety of WHOish materials!

A few interesting infobits from the past week...

Big Finish Mega-Awesome 50th Anniversary Release Anounced!!  [thanks John Ary and dj_bollocks x]

In November 2013, Big Finish will be releasing Doctor Who: The Light at the End, a very special 100-minute story to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Doctor Who. Tom Baker (1974-81), Peter Davison (1982-84), Colin Baker (1984-86), Sylvester McCoy (1987-89) and Paul McGann (1996) will all reprise their roles as, respectively, the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Doctors, whose paths suddenly intersect when they face imminent destruction.

--- [EDIT] ---

The Doctors will also be joined by a number of their regular companions: Louise Jameson reprises the role of the savage Leela, Sarah Sutton plays the scientist Nyssa, Nicola Bryant is American botany student Peri, Sophie Aldred is streetwise kid Ace and India Fisher returns as Edwardian adventurer Charley Pollard.

DOCBACK CODE OF CONDUCT

1) a Docback should be about completely open and free discourse regarding all things WHO with, obviously, some variation on subject matter from time to time - the real world intervenes, discussions of other shows are inevitable, etc.)...

2) matters of SPOILAGE should be handled with thoughtful consideration and sensitivity.  Posts containing SPOILERS should clearly state that a SPOILER exists in its topic/headline and should never state the spoiler itself . "** SPOILER ** Regarding Rory" is OK, for example.  "** SPOILER ** Battle of Zarathustra" is fine as well.  " **SPOILER** Why did everyone die?"  Is NOT good.

And, above all...

3) converse, agree, disagree, and question as much as you want - but the freedom to do so is NOT a license to be rude, crass, disrespectful, or uncivilized in any way.  Not remaining courteous and civil, as well as TROLLING or undertaking sensational efforts to ignite controversy, will result in banning.  Lack of courtesy may receive one (1) warning before a ban is instigated.  Obvious Trolling or Spamming will result in summary banning with no warning.  One word posts intended to bump-up any Docback's figures on AICN's "Top Talkbacks" sidebar will be considered actionable Spam - they not only complicate efforts to access Docback from mobile devices, but impede readers' abilities to follow or engage in flowing conversation.

In short, it's easy.  Be excellent to each other.  Now party on...
