The day is finally upon us! DEXTER: RESURRECTION returns tonight for its second season, twenty years after the character first appeared on screens in October of 2006. Michael C. Hall still embodies the charismatic killer perfectly, adding a new layer to Dexter Morgan’s challenges: middle age.

Yes, Dexter is now dealing with the onset of advanced years, evidenced in this promotional poster by his new glasses. (Eyesight is always the first to go, they say.) As an extracurricular killer, Dexter’s sharp senses and dexterity (pun intended) are integral to his efficacy. So how will this new hurdle affect him?
But wait, there’s more. As Morgan hunts the remaining members of Prater’s (Peter Dinklage) murder club from the previous season, old familiar faces from his past resurface, both complicating matters as well as lubricating his actions. Add to that two disparate killers, one new and one old, and Dexter finds himself reevaluating his anonymity. Brian Cox plays the unrepentant “New York Ripper,” a notorious killer who revels in his celebrity, especially as his guilt has never been proven. Dexter seems to be jealous of the attention the Ripper receives, kicking his feet at the ground like a sullen child, muttering “I kill, too…”

Dan Stevens stars as a new killer terrorizing New York City in new, technologically savvy ways, forcing Dexter to take notice. Young Harrison (Jack Alcott) has become a police officer, landing immediately in homicide under the tutelage of Detective Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf), the same one that doggedly investigated him last season. Add to that a romance with another officer (Nona Parker Johnson) who just happens to be the daughter of the Captain of Homicide (Bookem Woodbine), and Harrison’s story is shaping up to be just as intriguing as his father’s.

Episode 1 features a veritable who’s who of guest cameos which should delight eagle-eyed fans, and Episode 2 featured a personal connection. When Dexter tails The New York Ripper into a strip club, we hear the dulcet tones of Jonah Matranga singing Far’s cover of Ginuwine’s “Pony.” I’ve been a fan of Matranga’s music for decades and actually had him play at my wedding fifteen years ago. Isn’t that fun?
I got the chance to chat with Michael C. Hall, star of DEXTER: RESURRECTION, at New York Comic Con earlier this month. You can watch some of his remarks in the video below.
DEXTER: RESURRECTION premieres its second season tonight on Showtime and Paramount+, running weekly through January 1st, 2027.
Until next time, take scare!
