New York Comic Con celebrated its 20th anniversary this past weekend at the Javits Center in Manhattan, running from October 8th to the 11th. Imagine my pleasant suprise when I was again given the opportunity to speak with the multi-hyphenate entertainer David Dastmalchian, who was in attendance to celebrate SHUDDER's horror slate, the STREET FIGHTER movie, and several ongoing comic series which he authors. As a bonus, his co-writer on THE ACCESSORIES for RocketShip Entertainment and KINGDOM OF EARTH for Dark Horse Comics, Leah Kilpatrick, joined us this year for our chat.
Last year I was expressly forbidden from discussing his casting as M. Bison in STREET FIGHTER, but with the film releasing in a few days, I was able to ask about the surreal experience of filling Raul Julia's boots and sharing this accomplishment with his own children. Leah is breath of fresh air, and her cameraderie with David is apparent in their reparte.
If you haven't checked out David's podcast interview series GRAVE CONVERSATIONS just yet, and you're a like-minded fan of all things macabre, leave this page and go check it out. (I've linked it in the previous sentence.) Do come back, though, for our interview.
Here's our conversation from this year's New York Comic Con, one that I hope will only be the second of many:
Many thanks to David Dastmalchian and Leah Kilpatrick. Be sure to check out their work at your local comic shop or order directly through the links above and be sure to check out STREET FIGHTER and GRAVE CONVERSATIONS.
Until next time, take scare!
