This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Gut Punch Action Awesomeness, Love Stories, and Mellow Animations!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here on this fine Saturday to share a small handful of kickass films I think you might want to check out. This week contains action, secrets, relaxing songs, and feelings. "Feelings, Muldoon... really?" Yes, yes, and yes. Point being, there's a little something here for everyone, so whatever type of film you're into - there's a strong possibility you'll find something today that tickles your fancy. Given each week's lineup is as much a mystery as each time I open an email containing a submission, I did want to remind folks out there that I am truly always on the lookout for quality shorts and if you're sitting on one, be sure to send it my way! I'm always curious to see talent from strangers, folks with their own unique way of telling a story, regardless of what that story might be. "I have a period piece, a drama with no humor and lots of people crying - are you saying that has a place on SATURDAY SHORTS?" Yes, as long as it's good and made with passion. I'll watch just about anything, as a lot of you out there have seen with my random "exclusive clips" and occasional interviews. You don't have to have a ton of money to make something substantial. We've all seen films, short and feature length, where it's obvious there was a stiff chunk of change dropped - though in all the wrong places. No one watching your film will care how much you paid for the rights to your script or even if you rented that fancy track/dolly from your local rental house versus a piece of wood with skateboard wheels gliding across $1.99 PVC pipe as long as the story's interesting and the acting is believable. So if you are thinking "Hell, I've always wanted to make a short, but I don't have any movie star friends or rich uncles to fund my project..." I beg of you - get out there and make something! (Just be sure to send it my way down the line!) Enough with the preachiness... Let's kick our feet up and watch some solid flicks, eh?

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here!

THE MAN FROM DEATH

TRT: 13:36

Stephen Reedy has our first film of the week, with an action flick that feels like being force fed every kind of candy you can think of until you pass out from exhaustion - in the best way possible. With it's quick cuts, fancy explosions of style, crazy sound design, and an all out "What the hell is going on?" I can't help but beg to see what Reedy would do with a feature. This short is perfect for the videogame playing, bam-bam-bam mindset of an ADHD kid on speed, which isn't for everyone - but certainly is for me. I've featured two of Reedy's shorts here in the past, THE WINTER STALKER and THE FORGE, so yeah, when I see "I've got a new short for you" from the guy, I know it's going to be something unique. "A dorky cowboy must carry out the dangerous demands of an abstract future-predicting list." Check out Reedy's Stream Team Vimeo Page for more!

TAIL

TRT: 15:58

Our next film comes our way via filmmaker Matt Mercer, a face you've seen featured on SATURDAY SHORTS quite a bit - as an actor. This film's done the rounds in the festival circuit and is finally available to stream online! It's sweet, and unique - very much more realistic than most rom-coms in theaters. "Everyday, Ben swings by Zelda's coffee shop for his morning caffeination. There could be something between them, but it has yet to grow beyond their fleeting morning exchanges. When Zelda opens the door for more, Ben must confront his fears about a long-kept secret." As always, I looke forward to seeing what Matt does next! Check out the Rubric Pictures Vimeo or his website for more info!

WHISPERS AMONG WOLVES

TRT: 17:11

Our next film has been making the rounds lately and with good reason. Director Kevin Lim has built a tight film that explores a rather unique relationship. It's nicely shot, well acted, and packs a bunch - everything you could hope for in a short film. "Every Wednesday, an alcoholic CEO and her long suffering PA sit down to business. But tonight secrets will be uncovered, old wounds reopened and their unique co-dependency will come under scrutiny." For more information on the film or on Lim, head over to the Honey Soda Films Vimeo Page or to Lim's website!

THING-ONE "NICE WIFE"

TRT: 3:22

To wrap us out, we've got a rather relaxing music video from Nick Setteducato and the band "Thing-One." This is a rather demented video that tells the tale of a robot in a rather bizarre predicament. Check out more of Nick's work on his Vimeo Page, and if you find yourself wanting to hear more of Thing-One, fly over to their Facebook Page!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
