This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Yoga, Creepy Animation, and Pigeon Spies!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with this week's fun lineup of interesting short films you might not have seen yet. For the most part, I screen shorts created by AICN readers like you and me, but this week I've snuck in a film that I just caught and really - really had fun with. So if this week's been one gut punch after another with the passing of some genuine icons, well you could probably use some great cinematic escapes. The shorts I've got this week are all over the place... Comedies, visual shake ups, bizarre animation, and some truly "out there" stories. No matter what you're into, my singular hope is that you find yourself enjoying the films below, that's honestly all I can hope for. Something unique about each film grabbed my attention, that's not always something I can put my finger on. I'm just one guy with one opinion and I'm fully aware just because I like something, the rest of you fine folks might not necessarily dig it, but here's hoping! Without further ado, let's get this party started!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

WHAT IF MY WIFE DIED IN YOGA CLASS?

TRT: 16:59

Boom! First film out the gate is just perfect, a slightly dark comedy (as you can probably tell from the title). Director Jeffrey Williams brings us a film that talks about socks beautifully, something I thought I'd never type. Ever. "We've all asked ourselves what would happen if a sudden tragedy changed our lives forever. Most people let those fleeting thoughts slide.  Randy is not most people.  Today, Randy is determined to find an answer. While battling grumpy neighbors, filthy socks, and temperamental washers, he will set out on an epic journey of self-discovery. On a day where weaker men would fold like a cheap suit, Randy perseveres through a Kübler-Ross progression of heartbreak, joy, unexpected success, crooked cops, and a big ass bag of socks." Be sure to check out more of Jeffrey's work over on his Vimeo Page!

THE PRODIGY - "NASTY"

TRT: 3:41

So while I'm definitely a fan of The Prodigy, I'm equally a fan of Oliver Jones (having shown a few of his pieces here in the past). I'm just in love with how stylistic this music video is. I don't typically show music videos here (It's not "Saturday Music Videos" afterall, although that's something to think about...), but when something looks this cool - I just can't help but share. "A fox lures a group of hunters to their doom, turning them into the thing they hate the most." If you want to see more from Ollie, then click over to his website. (The guy's a damn prodigy himself!)

JARED.

TRT: 1:30

James Cunningham has our next short, a slightly depressing comedy about - Jared. James has created an insane amount of cool animations, so if you like what you see wiht JARED. - then be sure to check out his Youtube Page for more! I just want to see this character in a number of different circumstances.

NICOLIFE: Episode 3

TRT: 12:39

Much like how I rarely feature music videos, I don't typically screen web-series either. That said, I've absolutely screened an episode of NICOLIFE before here and don't regret it one bit. I enjoy the character the guy plays as he reminds me of a likeable Michael Pitt. Writer/Directore Robin Nyström is someone to watch. Swing by the show's website and poke around a few other episodes if you have fun with this one!

PIGEON IMPOSSIBLE

TRT: 6:14

To wrap us out with a chuckle and a half we've got a rather fun film from Lucas Martell and the gang at Mighty Coconut. "A rookie secret agent is faced with a problem seldom covered in basic training: what to do when a curious pigeon gets trapped inside your multi-million dollar, government-issued nuclear briefcase." (As an Austinite, I love that they guy tossed The Driskill in Washington DC!) Check out what else Lucas and Mighty Coconut are up to over at his/their website!

That's it for this week's lineup, folks. I hope you had yourself a great time and hopefully will see you next week with more films! If you're thinking of a short you wish you could make, just take it one step at a time - with your last step being to send it my way! Whatever your passion is, I hope this next week brings you a ton of good stuff.

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
