This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Family, Gorgeous Landscapes, and an Angry Papa Bear!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here on this lovely weekend morning. If you're here, then chances are you're down to watch some interesting short films. This week is a powerful one, with four shorts that each pack some heat. Regardless of what type of flicks you might typically seek out, I hope you're able to hop on this train of shorts and simply catch some films you might not normally check out. I'll let the films speak for themselves, so let's get this show on the road!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here!

WIFEY REDUX

TRT: 22:26

Bob McKeon blows the doors open this week with his 20 minutes of frustration. The film's a dark comedy that feels all too real, in the sense that Bob didn't just create characters, but people that live and breath in his world. "A man becomes maniacally obsessed with chasing off his teenage daughter's new boyfriend in this dark comedy about identity, hypocrisy, and how the ways that we cope can lead us astray. Based on the story by acclaimed Irish author Kevin Barry from his collection "Dark Lies the Island."" This is a solid film that's equal parts great acting, great editing, and great direction. Check out the film's fully loaded website!

WHALE VALLEY

TRT: 15:29

Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson has our next film, a whale of a tale... Okay, I immediately regret that pun, but don't regret sharing this incredible film with everyone here. " The film shows a strong bond between two brothers that live in a remote fjord with their parents. We look into their world through the eyes of the younger brother and follow him on a journey that marks a turning point in the lives of the brothers." Quite simply, this is a brilliant, beautiful film that earns each second of its run time. Check out the film's Facebook Page for more information on the piece!

HAVE HAD

TRT: 15:56

Next up is a film from Jack Turits. "To Grace she was a mystery. To Adam she was everything. Now, they have to uncover what they mean to each other: whether they’re family, or just strangers in passing." HAVE HAD is very much a film that asks you to read between the lines, to soak in the subtext, and end the film having dipped a toe into its waters (even if that toe is figurative...)  Here's a short that doesn't feel short, but in the best way possible. Be sure to check out more of Jack's work over on his Vimeo Page!

WHEN THE SAINTS

TRT: 4:57

To wrap us out, we've got a solid musical drama from filmmaker Dominic Laing. "‘WHEN THE SAINTS’ is a short film that takes a stanza from “When the Saints Go Marchin’ In” and uses it as an conduit for a single character’s emotional journey. With each movement, she owns both ache and hope, arriving at a fuller expression of her heart." It's a rather interesting short that I'm not quite sure I've ever seen before, a mixture of experimental film with music and emotion - very cool. To see more of Dominic's work, check out his website and head over to his Instagram for his poetry.

BAM! Well folks, there you have it - fouf films that rocked my world. I hope you enjoyed each one individually and were able to watch them at full screen with the audio turned up. Have a solid rest of your weekend filled with watching movies, short and long! I'll see you all a week from now with another round of solid shorts!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
