This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Astral Projection, Time Travel, and Rock Opera Space Adventures!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with this week's selection of interesting films created and submitted by AICN readers. I hope the second week of the new year has treated you just as good as the first. This week's packed with all sorts of great genres, favorites of mine with dips into the paranormal, wonderful "what if" scenarios, and a project that's so wildly absurd I can't help but love it. As always, I hope you folks get a kick out of a short film here that you just might not have seen otherwise. Unlike 95% of the bloggers out there, I don't claim to be anything other than a guy who likes to watch movies, I'm not an authority at all - just a dude who is lucky enough to share some shorts with total strangers on the internet each week. So the shorts below simply reflect what I think is cool - you may or may not agree, but I hope you give each one a shot. Every short I've been privileged to share here came from passionate groups of people who got together to make something, so if you see something you like - scream it from the roof tops, or just share it with other folks who you think might dig it however you see fit. Flipside, if you hate something I screen here, there's no need to go out of your way to rip on it, just like in real life... (Only insecure narcissists do that.) The point of all of this is to have fun, so let's do that and check out some wild shorts from across the globe!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

LILITU

TRT: 9:21

To kick this week off right, we've got Richard Lowry with one hell of a suspenseful film centered around astral projection, the idea of a mind travelling outside the body. Shot on 35mm, Lowry presents a rather bizarre tale of "a woman who astral projects herself to the presence of the demoness Lilitu." You might have seen Richard's past films, like MONARCH OF THE MOON or DESTINATION MARS. The man clearly is into larger than life tales, so who knows - we might just get a feature version of LILITU. For more information on the short, be sure to check out its website!

AULD LANG SYNE

TRT: 16:18

Next up is a time travel thriller of a tale from director Bradley Porter. "AULD LANG SYNE is set in 2014 and time travel exists. It's New Years Eve and the only thing that gets Laura and Simon through the day are their brief flirtations. When Simon leaves for a lad's weekend to the past Laura gets caught in decade spanning black market war to save the man she might love." Be sure to check out the film's Facebook page for more info and a hell of a lot of behind the scenes pics!

CHRONOSHRED: Pilot Episode

TRT: 7:56

If you're at all a fan of TIM & ERIC style visual ADHD, then holy hell have I got the perfect "web show" for you. Baltimore's Bob Rose, along with the Baltimore Rock Opera Society have put together 8 minutes of pure absurdity and I love it. Embedded below is an intro into a wild universe, a taste of a stage play that runs January 15th to February 6th in Baltimore, Maryland. "The galaxy’s greatest musician, Stardust Lazerdong, parties so hard he accidentally kills his bandmates in the process, forcing him to put a new band together." If you're in the Baltimore area and this grabs your attention, then be sure to check out the play! If this were playing anywhere in Texas, you bet your bottom dollar I'd be there. If you're hoping for more info on the show or the short, then rock on over to the Rock Opera Society's website and poke around!

ASH VS. LOBO VS. THE DC UNDEAD

TRT: 21:36

It's always incredible to see how fans interpret the characters they love, to see them take characters we all know and shove them into their own imagination. That's exactly what writer-director-editor-DP Brian Rosenthal has in store for us today, a fan film that pits EVIL DEAD's Ash against DC's Lobo, a match that could only be thought up from the folks at WTFLOL. In fact, this short is a sequel which sees Ash fighting Marvel Zombies... It's wild. If you're curious to see more, then simply head on over o the WTFLOL Youtube Page and check out their other insane "what if" fan films!

Bam! That's it for this week's picks, ladies and gents. I hope to catch you all here next week where who knows what kind of shorts I'll have. Have a great week and be sure to do something your passionate about during it... Go make that movie you've been thinking of for a while now! I'll see you all later, but in the mean time feel free to cick on a past article to check out some films you perhaps have yet to see!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
