This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Star Wars, Glasses, and a Creep Show Call To Arms!

Published at: May 3, 2014, 11:14 a.m. CST by Muldoon

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal muldoon here with this week's fun little slice of short film fun! Before we get too wrapped up into this week's picks, happy Free Comic Book Day! If you've got a comic book store in your city/town/parish/etc... then get your butt to it! Bring the kids, the wife, the family dog (or not...) and get your hands on a wide range of freebies that'll hopefully kick your butt into caring about a few stories you might not have otherwise been privy to. Or if you're very anti-leave the house, that's cool as well - because your buddy Muldoon's got a nice slice of randomness for you here. We've got comedies, touching documentaries, and a fun music video. So regardless of what your genre of choice might be, I've got you - you'll find it below. In case you missed it last week, I'm up here in Los Angeles for the weekend, so if you're down to hang out or know of any cool go-to places, then get at me at Mike@aintitcool.com. Regardless, keep creating awesome shorts and shooting them my way! Now let's start watching!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

REVENGE OF THE THREESOME: STAR WARS LIGHT SABER DUEL (III)

TRT: 3:53

Boom! Let's kick this party off right with a fun as hell short from Joe Lynch. Just in time for May the 4th (Star Wars day) tomorrow! It's the third in the SABER trilogy, with the first two directed by Adam Green and then Seth Green, and just hit the interwebs yesterday. The film is a throwback to awesomeness with it's 80's Kenner love and it's got beautiful ladies fighting each other - what more can you ask for? (Rhetorical question, so don't troll me dudes.)

FOUR EYES

TRT: 12:54

Next up we've got an incredible film from Conor Byrne. It's been making the rounds on the internet sites, so I'm a little late to the game. The film's lead, Jake Ryan, is solid as hell and the production design is slick too, like each set is a fun painting. (I'm not the best on compliments here... but I really like the visual style Byrne presents the story in.) "A 10-year-old boy is thrust into the tumultuous world of puberty when he gets a new pair of eyeglasses." If you like what you see, then hop on over to Byrne's website and see what else the guy's been cooking up!

HER STORY

TRT: 8:11

Time to switch gears with our next film. This one's from Ben Hodges and is rather simple in design, but incredibly captivating. He lucked out with a grandmother who's one hell of a story teller. "Lovely" just seems to fit here. "HER STORY is a short documentary my Grandma allowed me to make recounting the tale of she met the love of her life. It's also a tribute to my Grandfathers memory."

ELEVEN DIMENSIONS

TRT: 5:03

Here we have a film created for London's 48hr Challenge from David O'Reilly that floored me. I don't know what's in the water over there, but I've gotten so many incredible films submitted as a direct result of the 48hr challenge. There must be some genuine genre lovers over there who just know how to tell a good story. "If time travel was an commonplace as package holiday travel, where would be the busiest place in time..."

TEEWHY "STAGE NAME"

TRT: 4:11

Here's an oddity, a music video on SATURDAY SHORTS. While TeeWhy's musical stylings might not be what I'd blast in the car (Sorry, diehard Tool/Puscifer fan here), there was somethign about his video that hit me as "Hey, now that's actually pretty badass." If you've not yet heard of the guy, he's killing it up in Canada and with fun videos like this, will probably be around for a while.

KICKSTARTER ALERT: PINFALL (Creep Show Fan Film)

And to cap off this week's fun selection we've got an interesting opportunity that I just thought to throw out there. Kickstarter/IndieGogo/etc... I do get those emails daily, which is totally fair, but there aren't many that stand out as "Hey, maybe I should post this on the site." I'd like to think you folks can trust me and not think I'm just here to hustle anyone or blow smoke up their butts. These guys have an interesting story - they want to make the unmade Stephen King story of PINFALL into a reality. "We are attempting to make a fan film version of the un-produced Creepshow short story "PINFALL" that was based on a Stephen King treatment for Creepshow 2." It sounds like a short I'd be interested in watching, so hey - if you're curious as to what their angle is, click the little video below!

Okay ladies and gents, that's all I've got for you this week. Now I'm off to a fun filled day at Universal Studios (touristy - just the way I like it), but I'll catch you all next week with a fun selection of films that are sure to rock your world. Thanks reading. Thanks for watching. Now go out and make cool films!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
