This Week's Saturday Shorts: Parkour, Compliments, and Getting Pooped on!
Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here ready to rock your cinematic universe with a handful of fun shorts created and submitted by kickass AICN readers like you and me. Below you will find a seemingly random selection of films ranging from the absurd to the down right hilarious, but please - rest assured - you will no doubt find a film you'll fall head over heals for. (It's a fact.) So fans of animation, science fiction, awkward and slightly pretentious humor - you've come to the right place. I've said this before and I'll say it again: I'm a legitimate fan of all of the film's I've been privileged enough to screen here, so if you're a filmmaker and you're sitting on a short debating whether or not to send in an email (to mike@aintitcool), do yourself/me a solid and just shoot it at me! I love finding new voices and there's a whole hell of a lot talent out there, so reach out if you're at all inclined. Now that's enough jibber jabber - let's rock some shorts, eh?
Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:
Let's kick this punk rock party off right with a brand spanking new film from Saturday Shorts alum Phil Hawkins. Phil created this short for the Sci Fi London Film Festival wherein an individual has only 48 hours to conceptualize, write, shoot, cut, and lock a film. These 48 hour fests typically are a smorgasbord of mixed flicks, with lots of visions left unrealised simply based on the harsh reality of the time limit involved. With this second bit, Hawkins has once again proven himself to be a talent worth keeping an eye on. Check out more of his work on his site.
And, in the need of an awkwardly funny pick me up? Good, because Max Azulay's got quite the short for you. Now, I'm not a married man - but something about this feels very... sad, but more on the surface is a pretty witty story about two folks who just need some lovin' - not the sexy kind - but just two people in need of some positive reinforcement. "A man's needy Craigslist post is finally answered."
TWILLER PARKOUR #2
Remember that awesome animated piece WOMAN WHO HATES PLANTS? Well Morgan Miller is back and this time he's tackling hardcore parkour! He's also putting together a show called "Twillerama" that he's hoping to tour with, so if you like what you see and you're interested in his work - be sure to catch it when it comes to your town!
In the mood for a dark comedy? Excellent! Stephen Vitale's got a short for you. "They say being pooped on by a bird is lucky... but who are they?"
BIKINI GIRLS VS. DINOSAURS: The Trailer
I'm all about independent cinema. I'm a firm Lloyd Kaufman fan who's all about folks grabbing a camera and creating whatever stories they feel the need to, regardless of how insane it just might be. That leads us to awesome films like MANBORG or BLACK DEVIL DOLL. What we've got ourselves here is a pretty fun trailer from Kenneth Barker. The feature's out on Amazon now, so if you feel like hitting it up - get on it! This just looks like fun.
Okay, and that's it for this week's selection. I hope you folks had fun. (If not, my apologies - just hit me back next week for a whole new handful of fun shorts!) I'll see you fine folks in seven days! Adios!
If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!
Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"
In the subject line include:
“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”
Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.
Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.
Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?
BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
