Today I am sharing a trailer for Justin Kelly's new film "J. T. LeRoy." Kelly ("I AM MICHAEL" and "Welcome The Stranger")has taken the directors chair and wrote the script alongside the artist Savannah Knoop. Knoop gained world notoriety as she posed as J. T. LeRoy a character her sister in law Laura Albert created as a pen name. Albert then went on to write the top-selling cult novel "The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things" back in 2001 under the J.T. monicker. The novel was a faux autobiography written from the perspective of a young man who survived a horrific childhood filled with abuse and later truck-stop prostitution. When the success of the novel grows Albert recruits the help of Knoop to pretend to be J.T. in hopes of scoring a movie deal... It looks like it worked.
So in this film Laura Dern takes on the role of Laura Albert and Kristen Stewart is tackling the gender defiant artist known as Savannah Knoop. Seeing as Knoop and director Kelly worked together on the script I foresee this being as close as possible to the story that rocked headlines for months.
