DETECTIVE PIKACHU Trailer is Fresh From the Fight!

Based off of the portable Nintendo Game of the same name, DETECTIVE PIKACHU dropped another trailer today!

Starring Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, Pikachu finds the single person in the world who can understand him, and together they embark on an adventure to solve the mystery of a disappearance of a great detective. Also starring Justice Smith.

Here is the official synopsis:

“The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened.  Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.”

See Ryan Reynolds "become" Pikachu!

My love for Pokemon kinda petered out after I turned 15. It became a lifelong obsession for many, and is now crossing generations in fandom. I remember seeing people getting POKEMON tattoos in 2008 thinking that they were probably going to regret it later, because fads don’t last that long usually, right? I never thought POKEMON of all things would fall into the realm of massive lifelong fandoms like STAR WARS. POKEMON appears to be going strong still, with no end in sight. We’ll see, we’ll see.

Is this the start of a million live action POKEMON movies? Honestly, a live action Mr. Mime is freaking terrifying and I don’t know who approved that. Still, this movie doesn't look bad, and I'll see it with an open mind.

Catch it May 10th!
