Hey there fellow horror geeks and monsterphiles, Prometheus here, and I have some good news for fans of THE WITCHER series! I’m a few episodes in and the Netflix show... totally kicks ass! (Possible slight spoilers may follow, nothing major.)
Granted the first episode has a few slow parts, but these parts are essential story building moments, not just fluff dialogue. You’ll be introduced to key characters, such as Princess Ciri, and Yennefer, and you’ll even learn a bit about the relationship between Witchers and commoners.
If you’re wondering about Cavill’s performance as Geralt of Rivia, fear not! He absolutely owns it. The way he moves and fights, his way of speaking, his attitude, all spot on so far! Henry Cavill did his homework. That much is apparent.
The cinematography is stunning, and the scenery and sets are both large scale and epic, albeit; bleak and grim. Of course, fans of the series know that’s the point. This is a bleak and grim tale, and that’s exactly how we want it! The fight scenes are fast-paced, brutal and spectacular, with gore aplenty and the choreography is superb.
Fans of THE WITCHER video games might be wondering why Geralt has only one sword on his back, not two. In the game, Geralt always carries two. One regular sword; fashioned from steel for general use, and one sword coated in silver for killing things of a more... supernatural nature.
The show is based on the original books by Andrzej Sapkowski, not the games and in those books, Geralt stashes his silver sword in his horses’ saddle and only breaks it out in times of real necessity. After all, silver isn't cheap or easy to come by!
So far, I’m totally digging this show! It’s available now and ready to binge on Netflix! Have you seen it? Comment below and let me know what you think! That’s it for now folks! Until next time, keep on geekin’ on, my friends!
