Ava DuVernay To Make Prince Doc for Netflix!

Veronica Rampant here,

Variety has announced that Ava DuVernay has reached an agreement with Netflix to produce her latest project: a multipart documentary about the life of Prince!

The Purple One in All His Glory.

And here's the really exciting part, at least for Prince fans: She's doing the project with the full cooperation of the Prince estate, which is providing "interviews, archival footage, photos and archive access."

Archive access!? Does that include the thousands and thousands of hours of unreleased material  in the Paisley Park archives? Oh, yes it does, according to Vanity Fair - and she's already spent months in the Paisley Park archives, preparing for the project!

DuVernay seems like a perfect choice for the project. Before her renowned work on “Selma" and “Queen Sugar,” she made her 2008 feature film debut with a music doc: “This Is the Life,” a chronicle of the alternative LA hip-hop scene in the 1990s. She's also done two other documentary projects for Netflix: 13th, and the upcoming series about the Central Park Five.

"Prince was a genius and a joy and a jolt to the senses,” DuVernay tweeted, when the news broke. ““He was like no other. He shattered every preconceived notion, smashed every boundary, shared everything in his heart through his music. The only way I know how to make this film is with love.”

What do you think, Talkbackers? Are you as jealous as I am of the chance to stroll through Paisley Park and hear all the stuff Prince didn't want to share with the music industry? Let us know in the comments!!
