Killer Klowns ‘n’ Critters Crash Land on SYFY

Have you ever found yourself flipping through the channels and paused on SYFY long enough to catch a few frames of the latest Mega-Shark/Piranha/Python/Snake vs Sharktopus/Crocosaurus/Lavantula/Piranhaconda and thought “These are the people that should be updating the true classics”? Have you ever wondered what the minds behind Sharknado and Sharktopus and Super Shark and Swamp Shark and Sand Sharks would bring to revitalizing 80s horror/sci-fi gems like KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE or CRITTERS?

Well, dear reader, someone has been listening in on your private dialogues because that shit may very well happen according to Bloody Disgusting.com!  Following their involvement in reboots/sequels of properties like LEPRECHAUN, PUMPKINHEAD, PUPPET MASTER, and LAKE PLACID, the notorious basic cable’s production company is in talks to make new films based on the characters and events in KILLER KLOWNS and CRITTERS.

I remember seeing several of the CRITTERS films over one evening in high school with my horror-enthusiast friends; we would get together every other weekend and try to watch the shittiest horror movies we could find. CHILDREN OF THE CORN 2 still holds a special place in my heart thanks to those gatherings. I think I’d enjoy a slick update of the furry little bastards eating their way through unsuspecting groups of pretty teens and inept lawpersons; all camp and blood and hopefully evocative synth score . I have to admit I’ve never actually seen KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE; a friend brought it over one night with the intent to screen it but we got to making out and forgot about it. I don’t regret the decision.

What do you think? Will we be seeing remakes, reboots, or sequels? And as SYFY is the reigning king of monster mash-ups, will these two franchises ever intersect on a silver or small screen near you? Let us know what you think!

Until next time, see you at the movies!
