Seriously though, comedy is subjective. What makes one person laugh will seem incredibly stupid to the next person. That being said, I love the partnership between Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. Their collaborations with writer/director Adam McKay (TALLEDEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY and STEP BROTHERS) are some of my favorite comedies of the 2000s. To me, they are cinematic comfort food - light, silly, and amazingly quotable.
So it would suffice to say, I was really excited when I heard they were reuniting for a comedic take on the Sherlock Holmes mythos. Well, after seeing the trailer... I ...well, let's just say I really felt the absence of Adam McKay here. Check it out:
It's very VERY silly. Though, I have to admit I could watch Reilly shoot at bees and offer people heroin all day long. The rest though left me kind of flat.
