I was excited to learn “Iron Fist” got a new showrunner for season two -- until I saw the first episodes of season two. They make “The Defenders” look zippy. Like so much on Netflix, Marvel’s underbudgeted Danny Rand adventures continue to focus too much on supporting characters (like the siblings who run Danny’s family business) and only pack an average of about 13 minutes of plot into every hour.
(Even the fabulous Jessica Henwick and Alice Eve can’t make palatable the reams of grade-d soap-opera dialogue. Netflix subscribers with limited spare time might consider waiting for the terrific third season of “Daredevil”; the adventures of Matt Murdock have bounced back brilliantly from “The Defenders” with great new characters an expanded role for Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.)
It took me a bit to catch up with Sarah Silverman’s “I Love You, America,” in which she chats up people who dwell in red states. It’s a good series for viewers who laugh at “Who Is America” but find it too vicious. I love "Who Is America" (did everybody catch those last five minutes with O.j. Simpson?) and I love “I Love You America."
