Freddy Beans here with a trailer for LIZZIE, a modern retelling of the Lizzie Borden murders.
That trailer is perfection! I love Kristen Stewart and Chloe Sevigny here. I’m not sure the original murders had the lesbian tryst hinted at here, but I’m not going to cry about that twist.
Craig William Macneill directs LIZZIE for his second film after THE BOY, which I can’t recommend enough. It’s a real slow burner but it pulls the wool over your eyes and should make you question everything you thought you knew by the damaging ending.
The 1892 axe murders which Lizzie Borden was put on trial and ultimately acquitted of were pretty horrific for their time. Her stepmother was chopped some 17 times and her father 11 with an axe or hatchet. She stood trial and was freed but stayed the prime suspect throughout the rest of her life.
Looks like Mr. Macneill is spicing that story up a bit. Which I’m all for, that trailer could sell steak to a vegetarian!
Anyone else itching to see this one?
LIZZIE comes to theaters September 4th and running at 1h 45 min it should run briskly enough that no one can complain.
