Today brought us more news on the Joaquin Phoenix "JOKER" film. Actress Frances Conroy is said to be negotiating the role of Penny, the Jokers Mother. Frances Conroy is a talented actress with a haunting subtlety that can be quite disturbing. Conroy is known for her roles in "Six Feet Under," "American Horror Story," "The Mist," "The Wickerman," "The Aviator," and "Scent of a Woman" to name just a few of her roles.
When it comes to the Jokers past there's a lot left unclear; he is after all very untrustworthy. It has been said that he witnessed his mother being brutally killed by his father, it is also rumored that he was raised by a cruel Aunt. They also have stated that aspects of the film are inspired by Alan Moores Killing Joke which is one of the best comics of all time. I am hoping for a combination of Moores writing and the old school Red Hood comic. The fact that Zazie Beetz is set to play a single mother love interest has me convinced she and her child will be doomed to a torturous end that is yet another push off the cliff and into insanity for Jack Napier aka the Joker.
Well, folks I was ready to fucking see this film, months ago, and now with the casting news coming out, I am drooling over the dream cast that is being assembled. The idea that Robert De Niro will be joining the cast and they are focusing on a character-driven crime film has warmed my little cold heart and has me truly delighted. Could DC be learning? I think they are, I mean if this film turns out to be a shit show I will literally be shocked because so far I agree with every decision and announcement made public. What do all of you out there in Geeklandia think?
