This one looks like too much fun! Don’t you think so?
The story seems pretty simple and straightforward. Mark Wahlberg needs to escort a cop (Iko Uwais) with sensitive information to a safe place out of the country.
That sounds a lot more exciting than the 16 BLOCKS/HEAT rip off it was sniffing at in the trailer.
Truly, If you haven’t seen or heard of Iko Uwais you need to stop reading this immediately and go find THE RAID: REDEMPTION, then it’s sequel THE RAID 2. This man is a bad-ass exploding on the scene like Tony Jaa did with ONG-BAK: THE THAI WARRIOR. Iko visually comes across as simple and unassuming until the fists fly then he’s a bone snapping savant. An ambidextrous spider on the wall, literally it seems here from that interrogation room scene.
What’s not to like here?
John Malkovich (Give that man his money!), Lauren Cohan, (Marky) Mark Wahlberg, Iko Uwais, and I even see Ronda Rousey for the wrestling fans. Once her boxing was exposed as inept, MMA wasn’t the way forward. ;)
I love what I’m seeing so far from MILE 22, directed by Peter Berg who started off so promisingly with VERY BAD THINGS. That movie still sticks with me, just an onslaught of bad luck and rotten decisions. I’m 'meh' on most of his other stuff, though I did like LONE SURVIVOR quite a bit.
MILE 22 comes to theaters on August 17th. See you there!
