Zack Snyder working on Ayn Rand's THE FOUNTAINHEAD?

Hey folks... Deadline Hollywood is reporting that former DCEU showrunner Zack Snyder's next project will be an adaptation of Ayn Rand's THE FOUNTAINHEAD, from a Tweet screen capture of a VERO exchange.

It should be noted that this is a very different novel to Tea Party favorite ATLAS SHRUGGED, speaking more to philosophy and creative responsibility than free-market economics. The hero, Roark, is a visionary who eschews traditional methods of architecture. It's a very busy story of an idealistic architect (loosely modeled on Frank Lloyd Wright) being let down by his lover, his friends, and his business partners, who all seem to be working, together or separately, to get Roark to compromise his artistic values and join the commercial mob. Ultimately, after he is betrayed and sabotaged many times, Roark triumphs, winning cultural respect, the heart of the girl, and the success long denied him, on his own terms.

A lot happens in THE FOUNTAINHEAD. It's been adapted as a film before, but I wonder if, perhaps, it might be more prudent to approach this as a miniseries than a feature film? Audiences will have a lot of trouble with the twists and turns of the character of Dominique, anyways; watching her shift partners again and again in the short space of a two-hour film space might be asking too much.

This project also has some weird false parallels to Snyder's fall from grace with the DC Universe and the whole #SnyderCut of JUSTICE LEAGUE mess. For that reason, this would be the very last project I would want to see Snyder tackle at this time. I was hoping we would see Snyder tackle grief and redemption first, which I understood would be elements of THE LAST PHOTOGRAPH, Snyder's rumored project that was to begin shooting in June.

But maybe this is just the project Snyder needs to make a spectacular return to filmmaking. Whatever Snyder does next, I really hope it will be a knock out of the park. He's had a rough few years and I'd like to see him get a deserved win.
