Hey folks... news out from The List is that Jake Gyllenhaal has signed on to play the villain Mysterio in the next Marvel/Sony Spider-Man adventure.
According to The List, Gyllenhaal was in hot competition with Ryan Gosling for the part when a scheduling conflict pulled Gosling out of the running. This is the first big-screen appearance for Mysterio, an original Sinister Six villain and a less physical player that Peter Parker will have to outwit.
For his part, this is Gyllenhaal's second run-in with Spidey; he was the rumored replacement for Tobey Maguire during a contract renegotiation gamble that Maguire would ultimately concede to do SPIDER-MAN 2. Also, Michael Keaton is returning in the film as The Vulture! So will we see The Sinister Six? Only time will tell!
