SUICIDE SQUAD was probably the worst film they could have introduced the character Harley Quinn to the masses in the DCEU, but she shone brightly enough in it to rise to popularity with the fans of the films. All two of them, am I right? Hurrhurrhurr. A number of spinoffs have been proposed, but none are currently off the ground just yet. These possible films include a Joker/Harley flick, and also a film adaptation of GOTHAM SIRENS, which will be based on a comic book where Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman team up. There would be a lot wrong with doing GOTHAM SIRENS this soon, especially since we do not have a current Poison Ivy or Catwoman established.
Perhaps it’s wrong to assume that DC should follow in the same pattern that Marvel has put together and have found great success in. Even though fans had a problem with JUSTICE LEAGUE, with the budget of $300 million, DC definitely saw profit by grossing $658 million worldwide!
Robbie told collider.com “I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, ‘Harley needs friends.’ Harley loves interacting with people, so don’t ever make her do a standalone film. She’s got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn’t seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it.”
Did anyone else picture Quinn saying that instead of Robbie saying that?
After seeing I, TONYA, I can say that Robbie is a phenomenal actress. She definitely should be in more films, and as Harley! Will DC continue breaking the mold empowering women in the comic book movie world? WONDER WOMAN was so great, though the sequel isn’t looking too promising from what I’ve heard about it so far. On the other hand, as good as the Marvel films are, they still fail to have any women the main spotlight so far. This is one more reason the upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL will be so pivotal, for the MCU.
I hope that Robbie gets the gang of bad bitches like she’s aiming for.
