Sharing an interview a couple days back from ESQUIRE, with Alden Ehrenreich.
The commitment by Alden for 3 films in the Han Solo wonder years franchise is everything. This won’t be a one and done film which is great!
I have mixed feeling on the bits we have gotten to see if I’m to be honest. A lot of that is just the simple fact I thought myself a rebel like Han growing up. There were a ton of movies showcasing different versions of Han, but there was only one Mr. Solo. He nailed it. Though i am an unabashed lover of Robert Urich's dirtier moronic version in ICE PIRATES.
I want this to work so bad here I’ve taken til now to write anything on it. Committing to three films, whether that’s strictly Han’s vision or he blends his character into bigger films that interconnect like Marvel does is everything.
There were a few people that were upset when Lord and Miller were dismissed as directors, I’m not one of them. I love what they do, I just don’t want a gelatinous bowl full of giggily for Han. So the move to Ron Howard was absolutely the way to go for someone like me.
I want a serious tone with Han's trademark witticisms and wisecracks. Escaping by the skin of his teeth wherever he goes. Seemingly ahead of the curve at every step or just the luckiest son of a bitch in the galaxy, that’s my Han.
I’m almost as excited to see Woody Harrelson suit up for this film as anything else. Yeah, I’m a die-hard Woody fan. Way back from the WHITE MEN CAN’T JUMP DAYS.
I actually loved the advice Harrison Ford gave Alden, shared in this interview from when they did have a moment to get together and talk about all things Han.
“Tell them that I told you everything that you needed to know, and that you’re not allowed to tell anyone.”
It’s just the proper Han Solo smugness I want to see passed down for the character.
