Update On a Live-Action NARUTO Flick

Afternoon, geeks. I’ll admit that used to watch a lot of NARUTO over ten years ago...and I had to pause for a second after saying that, it’s so strange that it has gone on this long. NARUTO evolved into NARUTO: SHIPPUDEN, and somewhere in there, about 2011, I realized that I just couldn’t do it to myself anymore. I’d wait all week for the next episode to only get about about 5 minutes of new footage between all of the goddamn filler. You guys know how much I hate filler? Well this was the one that did it for me.

I know I could probably go and read the manga and get what I want out of it over the show, but the fandom fire for NARUTO is mostly gone for me, now. I tried watching an episode or two of BORUTO, which is about the next generation of NARUTO characters, and the old ones are still there, in neatly “shipped” packages, but it just felt like a bunch of BS. With this great setup I’ve made for talking about a live-action film, let’s get started on that.

Do people actually want a live-action NARUTO? The recent release of a live-action FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST was rather disappointing, so not much optimism is held for this next project.

Michael Gracey, who directed THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH, has been handed the project, but seems like he may be reluctant to take on the job of directing. According to Gracey, the script is being worked on right now, and he would be working closely with the creator of NARUTO, Masashi Kishimoto, to bring the film to life.

With an English speaking director on board, does this mean it will be an English speaking live-action adaptation? If so, since he’s working with the creator of the series, I highly doubt it’ll become the horrific disaster that the live-action adaptation that DRAGON BALL: EVOLUTION was. Yay?
