Hey Everyone Freddy Beans here;
With HollywoodReporter exclusive news that should excite “Stir of Echoes” fans.
Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions has long been the place to go for great horror films. Jumping in with "Get Out" last year sure didn't hurt their standing. Blumhouse won a competitive bid for Kevin Bacon and David Koepp’s new idea based on the novel "You Should have Left." Bacon will star and co-produce along with Blum. Koepp will direct their film based on the novel of the same name, “You Should Have Left” by Daniel Kehlmann. A way too short but impossible to put down horror story that mirrors “The Shining" by Stephen King in many ways.
A writer and takes his wife and daughter to a remote house in the frozen Alps. He wants to write a sequel to his successful first book and like the trail, Jack Torrance blazed before him, he loses his marbles in a taut snow constricted, reality-bending ghost story.
Bacon and Keopp are taking this in a slightly different direction making the protagonist a rich man with a younger wife and a 6-year-old kid in tow. Suspicions and doubt trouble their marriage leading to Bacon losing his mind.
Keopp is a badass writer having written the screenplays to too many great movies to mention. He’s only directed a few movies but they’re always enjoyable. “The Trigger Effect and Stir of Echoes” stand out for me. “Stir of Echoes” was one of those haunting surprises I wasn’t expecting when I went to see it in the theater. I was just a fan of Kevin Bacon watching what he put out religiously. I’d like to tell you I got over that, but I sought out “Cop Car” as soon as it was available and yep, enjoyed it a lot. Anyway, the movie is a great little ghost story which always reminds me of Poe's "Tell-Tale Heart." There's secrets in them walls!
Needless to say I can’t wait to see what they do with this. I know it’s going to be a movie, but I could see a 1 season series out of this idea on Netflix. These two guys made a really great horror film and I can’t wait to see what they do with this novel. Though at 128 pages I don’t know if that constitutes a novel. It was absolutely a damn fun read and way too fast, leaving me wanting more. A sure sign Mr. Kehlmann succeeded in my opinion.
Til next time Kids
