Hello all, Mad Dashiell here and thanks for joining me. Warner Bros has placed King’s sequel to The Shining on the fast track. Mike Flanagan fresh from Netflix's GERALD'S GAME has been chosen to direct Doctor Sleep, adapting the 2013 King novel that continues the story Danny Torrance (The boy from THE SHINNING) while in his 40s and battling the same demons of alcoholism, anger, and damned spirits that plagued his father.
Flanagan will do a rewrite of the script that was originally adapted by Akiva Goldsman. Flanagan’s producing partner Trevor Macy will be producing the project along with Jon Berg of Vertigo Entertainment’s, as well as Goldsman the executive producer of Warner Bros.
SPOILERY story details!!-- The story begins with Danny carrying on the trauma of the Overlook Hotel. He is becoming a reflection of his murderous father. His drinking problem dulls his pain as well as his powers of “Shining”. The powers start to return as he embraces sobriety and begins using his gift to help the people dying at a hospice. He establishes a psychic connection with a young girl of extreme abilities, who is targeted by a group with similar abilities. They begin to realize that their powers get stronger when they inhale the “steam” coming from others with the ability to Shine, while they are suffering from painful deaths. There will be direct connections to the Overlook Hotel galore. Warner Bros was behind the Stanley Kubrick classic from 1980 that starred Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd and Scatman Crothers. Kevin McCormick will be overseeing Doctor Sleep for Warner Bros.
Thanks again for joining me today and stay tuned as more develops. Mad Dashiell signing off.
