Shady dealings afoot in this clip from MARVEL’S CLOAK & DAGGER!

Precious Roy here with three fun minutes from the upcoming MARVEL’S CLOAK & DAGGER television series on Freeform!

The scene starts with the first meeting between Tandy “Dagger” Bowen and Tyrone “Cloak” Johnson and takes us to the moment they both discover the connection in their powers. Not a great moment for Tandy, but I imagine the reason for her criminal actions will come to light very quickly in the story.

I love the look of Aubrey Joseph and Olivia Holt as Dagger and Cloak. They’re not far off from how I pictured Cloak and Dagger in my head, and Joseph is actually an improvement. I love the slightly distant, brooding look in his eyes and the sharpness to his features. We'll have to wait and see if there's a fierce brightness in Holt’s eyes to carry Dagger.

We don’t know how Marvel will contend with this pre-merger series when they get around to bringing the word MUTANT into their films and television shows, but as I loved this title as a teenager, I hope it gets a chance to carry on. I really don’t care whether or not I personally like it, to be honest, because it’s not meant for my age group. I liked Cloak and Dagger at 19, and I’m sure a lot of folks my age did. I’m much more interested in seeing if kids respond to the story and want to see more. The audience for this is the TEEN WOLF/VAMPIRE DIARIES audience, and I hope they really love these characters and this world. I want Cloak and Dagger to get justice in their adaptation.

We have a lot of story to discover still, but one of the things I loved about Cloak and Dagger was that before they started to manifest their powers, they were runaways, together, on the streets. I hope that concept is still followed because it was wonderful to have a couple of kids from bad homes finding each other, and it made the love story between them so much more satisfying.

The only thing I’m sad about is missing the original beginning, with Cloak and Dagger putting their fate in the hands of a local priest, and confessing their crimes. They started out as dangerous vigilantes and wound up becoming solid heroes thanks to some guidance from ordinary people. It’d be nice if the series did the same… but not necessary. and, if ever there was a non-Netflix series I'd like to see Claire Temple turn up in, it's this one.

MARVEL’S CLOAK AND DAGGER premieres June 7 on Freeform.
