Greetings my fine ghouls, Madame Revenant is here to speak about her favorite subject:
It’s a film about nature. It’s about the unknown. It’s got a kick-ass cast. It has super special effects. How could this film fail?! It releases February 23, 2017, and is Alex Garland’s "EX MACHINA," & "28 DAYS LATER") next science fiction wonder that he is writing as well as directing.
Natalie Portman is a biologist which consequently becomes involved in a scientific exploration into a force field known as The Shimmer. She is driven by her need to heal her comatose husband (Oscar Isaac), a product of the last expedition into the field. Together with other scientists (one is played by Jennifer Jason Leigh!), they enter the void and discover a world lush with vegetation. What seems like Eden to some. But all is not what it seems as they discover the darkness beneath the surface. A land whose inhabitants are mutations of common plants and animals. Hybrids that seem to grow like malignant cancer; uninhibited, dangerous, and spreading exponentially.
Science teaches us that matter is not created or destroyed; it is transformed into something different. So what horrific transformations will Alex Garland deliver? I don’t know about you but I am itching to find out. The poster looks great too.
Based on Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy, Annihilation also stars Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, and Tuva Novotny. If you have yet to see the trailer I have included it below.
