Precious Roy here, digging a trench for a look at JOURNEY'S END trailer!
Here's a trailer for "Journey's End", a film from relative newcomer Saul Dibb, based on the 1928 stage play by R.C. Sherriff, in what looks to be a very faithful adaptation of the original play.
"Journey's End" features Asa Butterfield as Raleigh, a young recruit during the Great War, who requests a transfer to the unit of his family friend and hero, Captain Stanhope. Despite the concerns of more experienced, senior officers who see he is swelling with national pride, and has no concept of the kind of the hell he is in for, Raleigh's transfer is granted.
When Raleigh arrives on the battlefront at Saint-Quentin, he meets the unit, and his hero. Lt. Osborne, the company's moral center, guides Raleigh into his new reality, where the young man discovers his friend Stanhope to be very damaged, living in a constant dread and moral uncertainty, and discovers the war to be a very different thing, viewed from the trenches of the battlefield.
The trailer doesn't reveal much of the plot (which is likely for the best), just the environment Raleigh finds himself in and the unit, including some of the best character actors in British cinema today, including Paul Bettany as Osbourne, Tom Sturridge, Stephen Graham, and Sam Claflin as the troubled Stanhope (Laurence Olivier originated the role at the Apollo Theatre). "Journey's End" is not upbeat, family fare; it's an important story, but it's also very brutal to the characters as we get to know and understand them.
