MEN IN BLACK Spinoff Announces Release Date-- Rose Geiszler Reports

Hola Dannie here with some news from our new baby spy Rose Geiszler! Very excited to have her joining the AICN team, as I believe she is our youngest current writer, and I am very interested to hear her thoughts and perspectives on film and geek culture! I hope you all can appreciate her inner geek as much as I do.

Hey, what's up, guys? Rose here for Ain't It Cool with some rad new insight on the upcoming MEN IN BLACK spinoff!

Now, first off, who doesn't like aliens? Aliens are fucking cool. In my opinion, the MEN IN BLACK films are at their best totally awesome, and at their worst cheesy but nostalgic. Honestly these films absolutely were a contributing factor in my love of seeing aliens on screen. So imagine how pumped I was when I found out that not only was this spinoff finally getting off the ground but that it's been fast-tracked and given a 2019 release date (May 17 to be exact)!

Though it has been confirmed that the stars of the previous films in the franchise (Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones) will not be returning to reprise their roles as agents Jay and Kay, I'm still more than willing to give this sequel a chance. There is so much potential within a universe as vast as the one that's been set up in the MEN IN BLACK films, and I genuinely believe that as long as the script is well written, it doesn't matter too much to me who fills the shoes of the agents themselves. I'm excited to see which direction the writers, Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT and IRON MAN, respectively), will take this script since there are so many different ways this could go. If there are two things we can be almost certain of is that, if nothing else, we'll get to see some cool new gadgets (which is one of my favorite parts of these films, honestly. I remember being a kid and being so fucked up by the idea that someone could just erase my memory... just like that! I used to think a lot about whether or not I'd encountered aliens before and I just couldn't remember) and some cool ass aliens. I think that's something that we can all get behind.

There isn't a whole lot of information on this film yet, but I'm eagerly awaiting a cast announcement or any news about the plot sometime in the near future.  In the meantime, what do you guys think about all of this? Who would you like to see starring in this movie? Are there any familiar faces you are hoping make it into this film?

Until Next time,

Rose Geiszler
