Fox dates Avatar Sequels and pushes back Shane Black's PREDATOR!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Originally we were getting Shane Black's Predator movie in February of 2018, but now Fox has announced they've pushed it back half a year to a more franchise blockbuster slot. We'll now get it August 3rd, 2018, where it will compete with the Jason Statham giant shark movie MEG.

I don't take this as a bad sign. If it were moving from Summer to February then maybe that's an indication that the studio's nervous, but it's clear they smell some summer dollars and are wanting to go after that while at the same time giving Black and his post-production crew extra time to put the finishing touches on the film.

Fox also gave us new dates for the James Cameron directed Avatar sequels over the weekend. We won't get the first one until December 18, 2020, but we'll get Avatar 3 the very next year (December 17, 2021) and then get a 3 year break for 4 (December 20, 2024) and 5 (December 19, 2025). So, it's pretty clear Cameron will be shooting 2 and 3 back to back, then 4 and 5 back to back after a short break.

If I've learned one thing since I've been following movie production it's that you never bet against James Cameron, but I also fall in the group that questions whether or not audiences really care about this universe or if the first one was a combination of perfectly timed spectacle and audience interest in 3D.

I'm a little bummed that this pretty much ensures the only James Cameron-directed movies we're going to get for the rest of his career are Avatars, but I can never be truly sad as long as this guy is following his passion and making movies.

What do you folks think?
