Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Hey, remember all the way back to yesterday when we heard that Michael Dougherty was going to be co-writing Godzilla 2 for Legendary? Well, it seems that might not be all he'll be doing for the movie should Screencrush's scoop pan out.
They're saying that Gareth Edwards isn't returning for sure and that Dougherty is the top contender to direct as well as co-script the sequel. Screencrush says that the decision will likely be made after he turns in his draft.
This makes sense. Dougherty is a big part of the Legendary family. Godzilla 2 is a big opportunity for him as a director, but we all know that Gareth Edwards wasn't exactly a tentpole director before Godzilla either. The top brass at Legendary value passion and potential more than most film studios and if they have faith in Dougherty they'll let him take control of one of their most valuable properties.
As a big fan of Trick R Treat and Krampus I'm psyched to see what Dougherty has in store for us with Big G's next screen appearance.
