Will there be more “True Detective” after it wraps up its second season in 10 days?
HBO programming chief Michael Lombardo says it’s the sole decision of series mastermind Nic Pizzolatto, who writes every episode.
“If he wants to do another season, I said the door is open. We’d like to do another season of it,” said Lombardo at HBO’s TCA event.
HBO is likely high on the franchise because Pizzolatto’s scripts attract bona fide movie stars like Vince Vaughn, Matthew McConaughey, Rachel McAdams, Woody Harrelson, Taylor Kitsch and Colin Ferrell.
Lombardo says HBO offers Pizzolatto no suggestions, noting Pizzolatto is “one of the best writers working in film or television who takes big swings.”
The exec also suggested critics withhold judgment on the series’ second season until they see the Aug. 9 finale.
“I think you need to watch the entirety of it,” opined Lombardo. “I think the season’s ending is as satisfying as any series we’ve done.”
