Eight character posters for the climactic HUNGER GAMES movie, MOCKINGJAY - PART 2, premiered in various outlets throughout the net today (notice the watermarks on Peeta and Gale), and they show off the young cast (and, oddly, Mahershala Ali) all face-painted up and super, super-serial:
Not having read the books, I’m hoping that giving Jena Malone’s all-but-absent-in-PART-1 Johanna her own posters means she has more to do this time around.
I kinda like that they’re highlighting these guys and not the bigger-named (besides Lawrence) adult cast like Woody Harrelson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Elizabeth Banks, and Julianne Moore. Sure, they have star power, but their visages don’t immediately recall the world of HUNGER GAMES the way these do (though some may associate Natalie Dormer with that other, somewhat obscure genre franchise she’s associated with…).
With all the knockoffs like THE MAZE RUNNER and DIVERGENT taking on life of their own since this series started, it sometimes feels like HUNGER GAMES is already kinda over, but seeing these posters should remind folks that the revolution among the districts hasn’t really gone down yet, and that you can catch it on the big screen this November.
THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2 hopefully features more viral music videos from Katniss on November 20th.
