Johnny Galecki Joins RINGS! Plus, a Returning Character and New Plot Details!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

A few updates on the new RING film for you today.

According to Deadline, Johnny Galecki, star of BIG BANG THEORY (or better yet, ROSEANNE), will be joining the cast of RINGS. He will be playing Gabriel, the "handsome, pleasure-seeking professor who mentors and helps" the two lead characters, played by Matilda Lutz and Alex Roe, after they come into contact with the infamous tape.

"Pleasure-seeking?" I can only imagine this means pervy professor who tries to screw his students, but maybe they're going for something else here. We'll see.

This follows recent clarification from director F. Javier Gutierrez that, contrary to previous reports, the film is, in fact, a sequel, rather than a prequel. The film will pick up 13 years after the events of THE RING, and will continue the story of Samara's cursed videotape.

Additionally, Shock Till You Drop recently reported that Aiden, the boy at the center of the events of the first film, would be featured in the new story, as an adult. It is unknown if actor David Dorfman will be reprising the role, or if a new actor has been cast.

So the film is shaping up to be slightly different from what we were originally anticipating, but still with plenty of intriguing developments. I'll be interested to see the role that the Aiden character will play, and whether he is there more as a point of exposition to clue our new group in on the horrors of the VHS tape, or if he will be a more active part of the proceedings.

RINGS is currently in production, eyeing a release date of November 13th.

What do you guys think of the casting news?
