This is an interesting pairing. MR. SHOW co-creator and all-around funny dude Bob Odenkirk is hooking up with Michael Paul Stephenson, the director of BEST WORST MOVIE and THE AMERICAN SCREAM, for a feature film called GIRLFRIEND'S DAY. I like this intersection of sensibilities: Odenkirk tends to be more acerbic with his wit, while Stephenson has a genuine affinity for outsiders and eccentrics. Here's how the film's described in the press release that just hit my inbox:

“After reading Girlfriend's Day, it felt like a discovery,” said director Michael Paul Stephenson. “Long before Girlfriend's Day even came into the picture, I had Bob's name down on a list of actors I'd hope to work with one day. I've been a fan of Bob's for a long time, and feel that his dramatic sensibilities as an actor have been largely untapped. Girlfriend's Day is rooted in themes that I believe in, and I'm honored to collaborate with Bob in telling a story that's close to his heart.“
In a city where greeting card writers are celebrated like stars, romance writer Ray (Odenkirk) used to be the king. In trying to recapture the feelings that once made him the greatest, he gets entangled in a web of murder and deceit as writers vie to create the perfect card for a new holiday: Girlfriend’s Day.
The plot sounds a little darker than Odenkirk's initial description, but I love the idea. GIRLFRIEND'S DAY will be independently produced by Odenkirk Provissiero and Magic Stone Productions (which is run by Stephenson and his wife Lindsay). Certainly looking forward to this one.
