Every man The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day kills, the farther away from home it feels.

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!

Wait, next year is Saving Private Ryan’s 15th anniversary? Are you kidding me? That can’t be true, can it? Because if it’s true then I’m getting old and I refuse to believe I’m aging, so yeah… false alarm, Saving Private Ryan is just a few years old and everything’s still right in this world. Phew! That was a close one!

Today’s picture is of Steven Spielberg going back into the water directing a piece of the opening Normandy Beach Invasion scene, which changed how filmmakers would shoot action for over a decade (and counting). That might not be a good thing, actually, but you can’t deny that the shaky, frenetic verite style was perfect for that opening sequence.

Everything about the Normandy sequence is fantastic. The washed out colors, the chaotic gore… Spielberg really did make the audience feel like they were there. It’s a masterfully edited, sound designed and performed sequence.

Hope you guys enjoy the image. Click to slightly enlargen.

Tomorrow’s pic shows a monster based on film critics coming to life!
