About that new Harry head in the corner, the one with the purple swirls...

Hey there geeks. Ol' Father Geek here has been getting alot of E-mail wanting to know what the movie reference is to that NEW Harry animation up in the corner of the page.

I would think that it should be painfully obvious to all our steady readers, especially those that lurk about in talkback every day. No, Harry did not cut an especially potent one. It is simply another plain-as-your-face example of the site's level of "sell-out-ness"... a blatant attempt to further plug that hack Paul Verhoeven's new film THE HOLLOW MAN, with yet another piece of self-indulging animation. No? Don't buy that? Well...

Hows about this then. Its a scene from HEAVY METAL and Harry's just tried to rob this taxi driver named Harry, and... No? Well then from the same fun flick Harry the avid geek collector (a ripoff of the Fatman in MALTESE FALCON) has just located the Loc-noir and he just couldn't keep his greedy little hands off it, and... No? That doesn't work for you either?

OK, the truth this time. It's an 'omage to that scene in RAIDERS where in the last reel Indy's evil competition looks down into the arc muttering, "It's beautiful... Ahgggggggggggg!!!" as he melts before our eyes with swirls of color rising up around him into the sky above the Nazi held island.

Yeah, It's a (all of these examples really) are modern, yet classic re-tellings of elements of the ancient myth of PANDORA'S BOX. And it really does apply to Harry. According to several studio suits he's constantly going too far, stepping where man was not meant to trod, unsealing that which was not meant for the eyes of men. And they're all waiting for him to fade away. To burn out.
