I Will Put You Down!!’

West Coasters!! Herc Says Tonight's Observer-Happy 2036 A.D-Set FRINGE Is Excellent!! Plus MAHER, GRIMM, FINDER, SUPERNATURAL, NIKITA, More!! Herc’s Friday TV Talkback!!

Well, producer predictions that a decision on a fifth season of “Fringe” would come down last week were wrong. The show matched its season low last Friday and remains in amber … er, limbo. Fox announces its fall schedule May 14.

Last week Colonel Broyles stopped working for David Robert Jones and turned himself into Agent Broyles.

Fox says of tonight’s “Letters Of Transit”:

The “Fringe” tradition of a mind-bending 19th episode continues as the story jumps ahead to 2036, when the Observers and the Fringe team engage in a game-changing battle.

Returning tonight:

The Dead Files (10pm Travel)

The Ricky Gervais Show (9pm HBO)

The Singing Bee (8pm CMT)

Premiering tonight:

Jennie Garth: Little Bit Country (9pm CMT) “follows former 90210 sensation and accomplished actress and mother Jennie Garth as she decides to leave Hollywood behind in search of a simpler life.”

Melissa & Tye (9:30pm CMT) follows “one of America's most-beloved bachelorettes, [Melissa] Rycroft, and her husband Tye Strickland as they balance a long distance relationship between Dallas and Hollywood.”

Is this really where our storyline for the 5 season is going to go? Ugh... I really have enjoyed Fringe and I don't' want to see it end, but if this is the hint of what's going to happen next year then I'm almost hoping for a cancellation. I just hope we get a solid exit with our characters.

Man I'm excited for a new Fringe!

    by Paul

This is the episode where they always do new and crazy stuff (musical/animated) so this should be interesting! I read somewhere that the Mr X character ("He's the man thats going to kill me") from the animated episode factors into the finale somehow. Plus tomorrow new Avatar, Young Justice and Green Lantern. Sunday new Avengers and Spiderman!

  • ... u also forgot to list his lying, distorting of facts, lack of facts, racism, and homophobia (i know i missing some, u get the point). oh yea, i see ur getting ur ass waxed in the Romney SNL tb also LOL. along with all the other progressive idiots. it is a FUN read. u are totally pathetic and a one trick pony in that thread as u are in this one. pitiful...

i would love to see a 2036 storyline play out over 13 episodes for season 5. i think it would be a cool way to wrap up the series. i also really liked the opening. i hope they get the chance

Fringe just kicked me in the balls and made me smile

    by mongo126

Motherfucker that was an awesome episode. If they put shit that good out every Friday, they might pull a 1.4....because, well America has horrible taste in TV and would rather watch shit. Like, literally, I think most of America would watch a turd judging contest because that's about all the thinking they want to do. I'm afraid we got a tease at what could have been....but it does give hope to Fringe closing out in style.

Another solid episode of Supernatural tonight

    by DavidBanner

  • he has a show that talks exclusively about politics. he is (inexcusably) invited onto political shows to talk nothing but politics. he is now a political commentator. he only uses the *but im a comedian* to offend and showcase his bigotry, racism, misogyny etc. without being held responsible. that, however, is being taken to task and will not last long anymore. he is a vile and disgusting piece of shit and a coward. end of story...

  • ...Ann Coulter, Pat Buchanan, Michelle Malkin, the late Mr. Brietbart, and of course Limbaugh, would have been kept off all these years as guests on talk shows.

    Holy Fucking Fringe.

    by CatVutt

Dear God, just one more season. That's all I ask. Totally kick-ass episode.

    Yes, Albinos are evil again!!!

    by Domi'sInnerChild

I was getting mad that gingers were getting all their roles.

  • Now I want 8 or 10!

  • I didn't think your "anyone who comments on politics is no longer a comedian" argument held water, either, but I thought I'd cut you some slack and address your other point. Maher does stand-up comedy shows and does a comedy monologue at the beginning of his shows. He's a comedian. No one takes his opinion particularly seriously. He's just a guy who entertains people with his goofy opinions and jokes. He doesn't tell his viewers to make angry calls to Congress or get public apologies from office holders the way certain racist/sexist radio hosts do. He's just one guy, and has a very small following and no influence. WHO CARES WHAT HE THINKS?

Whoa, it just went up a notch. it was already great, but this episode was fantastic. How'd we get into the future? i'm not sure. Does Nimoy get residuals for his face? Man it was good to get Desmond time travel again :), Hoping we can have bit more of him.

  • April 21, 2012 8:23 AM CST

    Fringe was great... @Herc....

    by brechtsky

For some reason I presumed that was referring to when he took over her body... I saw it as a half-assed way of justifying walter cutting off his hand instof saving him.... And a way of showing he's lost what made him Walter, and is becoming the "evil" version of most self he had gone to such lengths to avoid.... It was a bit predictable, I mean, I guessed she was their child the moment I saw her... but it was still quite enjoyable, more so than last years flash forward/sideways whatever... and seeing Henry Ian cusick on fringe was worth the price of admission alone, so to speak... The man is a great actor, always powerful in his roles on tv.... I just hope they can maintain this, we have like 8 different versions of Peter, Olivia, etc to keep track of now....

  • April 21, 2012 8:26 AM CST

    Damn autocorrect...

    by brechtsky

Walter cutting off hand "instead of" saving him.... Also, .... the evil version "of himself" that....

  • April 21, 2012 8:33 AM CST

    Fringe was fucking brilliant

    by Miyamoto_Musashi

I almost applauded when Walter said "these aren't the droids you're looking for" Am sure everyone knew she was Peter and Olivia's kid from the start, but still when she was speaking to Peter that was brilliant I love the show and for me that episode took it up another notch

  • April 21, 2012 8:35 AM CST

You'd have to assume so, by mr_x_.

    by cookepuss

Nimoy's likeness isn't in the public domain. He's still a SAG member and that likely entitles him to a degree of protection when it comes to its use. After all, that was essentially the gist of Crispin Glover's 1990 lawsuit against Universal, which eventually settled. Did Nimoy get paid? Probably. Just probably not a whole lot.

  • April 21, 2012 8:36 AM CST

@ red giant - good call

    by brechtsky

They likely will explain that, and it would make some sense that the bullet was involved in some way.... It's one of the few remaining unresoved clues/threads, whatever.... So did anyone see "scenes from next week"... It's a continuation of this, right? I can't imagine they would leave this one as it is, and get back to the past/present, but maybe they will just use the amber thing as the finale, and seeing it "live" will explain everything...although even then we'd need to jump forward at least 4 years to when they have a baby... Which would be beyond 2015... So is this a fake future, or was their math just lazy with the 2015 takeover thingy? Or are we assuming they were around and kicking for a while after the invasion, and then they got ambered?

  • Someone comes up to Desmond and asks "So what was it like kissing Tricia Helfer?"

  • April 21, 2012 9:43 AM CST

If Fringe was on Instant Streaming Netflix...

    by chaseguy17

...next season would probably see its highest "friday" ratings. Fringe is critically acclaimed. Everybody knows this; even people who haven't watched it. The first half of the first season was somewhat weak. Getting over that hump is the hardest part for people. But, if these episodes were on instant streaming netflix, i feel like there are a ton of people waiting and ready to marathon this show.

  • April 21, 2012 10:23 AM CST

Great Episod of Fringe, but... SPOILERS

    by Rob0729

They telegraphed Etta being Peter and Olivia's daughter too much. Figured that out in the first few minutes of the episode. I guess Georgina Haig looking like a carbon copy younger version of Anna Tov kinda made the easy connection. While on Etta, I think naming her Henrietta was kinda cheezy. I am assuming they wanted to show that Olivia and Fauxlivia think the same since Fauxlivia named her and Peter's son Henry. Unless it is that Olivia's father's name was Henry (I don't know if he was ever named).

That was a GREAT Fringe. (spoilers)

    by gotilk

This time of year for the show is always so much fun. I loved the opening, too. Even in amber, a Nimoy cameo is always great. So what do we do to push for another season? I'll do anything. And what's with all of the bizarro-talk about Maher? I don't really have an opinion either way, so how about some evidence for all of those things you people are calling him? Then *I* will decide and that will be final. Bring it. Let's see the proof.

  • April 21, 2012 11:15 AM CST

    I love...

    by scors54

When they do these tiny tweaks that only movie fans will really notice. The "Terminator" style lead in credits were brilliant, and I thought naming the head observer "Captain Widmark", given the jacket he was wearing along with the usual fedora and his sadistic streak was a toss way back to Richard Widmark as Tommy Udo in "Kiss of Death". The "These aren't the Droids you're looking for" was hysterical, "Papers of Transit", the title is one of the main themes running through "Casablanca" and even "Fight the Future" goes right back to the 1998 X-Files movie title. Clever little placements all around, I thought. I hope that storyline continues at some point.

  • Seen any good movies or TV lately? Someone told me you once mentioned you tried to Watch Fringe, but didn't understand it - makes sense, you seem to live in a bubble of political rage, which you seem to limit To posts here about Maher - you were too much of a pussy to actually join in another political thread here this week about Mitt Romney - we understand you are an embarassment to you fellow conservative posters here, so you stay away from commenting so as not to distract from relatively dane conservatives and their genuine points of view and beliefs- you are such a fucking phony, you have people lokking at this Friday thread just to laugh at you. I spy with my little eye that little whinge-sponge jay2517 whinging about Bill Maher => that must mean it's Friday....by kai_mah'gra Yet another reason to look forward to the end of the week. Reading his moronic Conservaturd talking points is the new TGIF. please continue to be you - that is post your nonsense here about Maher every Friday - your conservative insanity makes most hard right wingers seem normal in comparison - I believe you may be responsible for converting many conservatives to vote liberal, because they don't want to think or sound anything like you.

  • gotilk - jay is insane about Maher- he says the same shit every week, like a good little robot who has a few wires loose in his logic circuitry- he is the most insane conservative poster at AICN by far , and just says insane strings of words to provoke - nothing to see here- move along, move along

  • now, just wait a little bit, and he will be back, because he needs to defend his insanity because he has no idea how to talk to people normally- make sense?

  • Joshua Jackson said as much in this interview in the second to last paragraph. So we need to write letters into Fox/WB, post on their Facebook page join in on the send Fox Licorice campain and hope and pray that we get a season 5. Exclusive: Fringe Stars Talk Finale ('We Shot Two Endings'), Drop Clue About Season 5 Storyline Matt Webb Mitovich Fox’s Fringe, which for four years now has traded in dual universes, doppelgängers and shape-shifting body doubles, is fittingly prepping alt versions of its Season 4 finale, as Fox and Warner Bros. TV continue to negotiate the possibility of a Season 5. “We’ve shot two [endings],” John Noble told TVLine at the opening of the Beverly Hills Paley Center’s “Television: Out of the Box” exhibit, which was created in conjunction with Warner Bros. TV. Fringe Videos: Walter Is Drug ‘Tested’ En Route to the Other Side, ‘Meana’ Warns Fauxlivia Noble says many “big questions” will be answered in the season finale airing May 11 — including the matter of Olivia being fated to die (and whether the animated episode’s “Mr. X” figures into it) and Walter shouldering the burden of responsibility for the warring universes. Viewers also can expect a surprise on the villainy front (David Robert Jones plays “a very big part, but not as big as you think,” Noble teased. “There’s something bigger.”) But as Joshua Jackson told us Thursday night, “The writers have given themselves a device by which we can tell a fifth-season story without having to leave this season’s story open.” Although Lance Reddick, who plays Broyles, could not elaborate on the alternate endings, he did affirm, “The way [Season 4] ends could function as a series finale, but there’s one storyline left open that could end up as a cliffhanger for the beginning of the fifth season…. We’ll see what airs depending on what [Fox and WBTV] decide.” Fringe‘s Top-Secret, Twisty Episode 19: What Do the First Photos Reveal? If Fox does pull the trigger on some semblance of a Season 5 – be it a truncated 13-episode order or what have you – viewers will get a clue as to that new storyline much sooner than they may think. “The door to the fifth season is opened in Episode 19 (airing April 20),” Jackson told us. “If you watch that, you’ll have an understanding of where they want to take the series.” (Possible clue/spoiler alert: Episode 19 takes place in the year 2036 and features a “game-changing battle” between the Fringe team and the Observers.) But as for where things currently stand with the renewal order…. “I hear warm and fuzzy things — but I’ve been hearing them all the time,” Noble said. “We just picked up [TV Guide Magazine's] fan award for Best Drama and so forth, and the fans have always been very supportive… [and] I know the Fox executives actually like Fringe very much. But they run a business. I think we’ll be back, but we’ll wait and see.” (With reporting by Vlada Gelman)

  • And then on on the way out he stole a pack of licorice from the vendor. Such a nice little charater touch!

  • ...you'll have enough episodes to sell a syndication package so you'll be happy, it works out all around. Stop being docks.

I thought Bell was dead... ?

    by TheSeeker7

how was he alive and stuck in amber?

  • I just wish that they would have went with a lesser known actor so that they could have used him in stories more.

Bell's dead in the 'Peter' timelines of seasons 1-3, one version of him could be alive in the Peterless universes of season 4, which I'm guessing this episode was a flash forward of. Wow that was a great episode. I've learned to stop picking at Fringe and just enjoy it when it is good and this one was really fucking good. Yes, we all worked out who Etta was but I think you were supposed to, otherwise the scene at the end wouldn't have had the emotional pinch it had. Loved badass Walter. Loved the new agents, the story about September and the timeline of the Observers, the prisoner reference and little laugh after, Bell being back and minus a hand and the new titles were probably the coolest of the whole series. This episode alluded to so many little dropped bits of mythology it suddenly felt like the same show from seasons 1-3. I've been disappointed in Fringe this year but I do love how they take risks with the narrative and it may not work all the time (soul magnets, Peter's erasing) but it worked in that one. Awesome episode.

Oh yeah and I've just read elsewhere

    by theGoldbergV

That in season 2 episode 3 ('Fracture') this future is pretty much spelt out by one of the bad guys. Been so long since I saw it I don't know for sure but if so, that's also very cooly done. I'm betting rather than season 5 being set in the future it instead involves Etta being blasted to the past (our present) using that device of Walter's. Looked like a single person pod to me...

    Questions about "Letters of Transit"

    by ShadowVision

Although I liked yesterday's episode, there were some issues that were contradictory: 1. From the previous seasons, it was noted that the purpose of the Observers were to monitor the time lines and note special events. It seemed like the prime directive was not to interfere and to let things progress as they should. This is apparent when September tries to fix the mistakes he made related to Peter. How could they easily go from that to a point where they decided to take control, particularly when taking control has no "for the good of the world" respects but more as a power play. 2. The Observers showed little to no emotion in previous appearances except with August, who was driven by emotion for the girl he watched over. The head Observer in the episode seemed to be the opposite and display a lot emotions including lust, disgust, ambition, etc.

The truth about entitled talkbackers and trolls

    by Hey_Kobe_Tell_Me_How_My_Ass_Tastes

centers around those who think that just because they are allowed to post here or have been doing so since before such a thing called a smart phone existed - which allows them to post while taking a shit at the same time, or post their shit as such the case may be, then they are somehow entitled to being treated like fucking hands off royalty. furthermore such entitled fucks think they have the right to criticize anyone and everyone with impunity because afterfall harry is beholden to them and their daily hit counts for his income and fame which they deride constantly and threaten daily by saying they will never return because this place just aint what it used to be, but strangely enough they do return.news for all of them, if this site was mostly beholden on talkback hit counts it would have went belly up a long long long time ago. they will not believe me, even though the proof is on the posting page and can be found with a google search of site hit counts. they will continue to exist in their entitled little world because this place is important to them, they need this place far far more that it needs them. the d.vader banning of a year ago and subsequent moaning and bitching and screams of 'im never coming back' really did spell the doom of talkbacks and aicn. oh wait a minute, no it did not. the site miraculously kept going and the place was actually better off because all inbred trolls and their sock puppets stayed away until they realized how desperately they needed this place and how much it did not need them. that is the bullshit i rail against and why i heap scorn on choppah and his sock puppet echo chamber ilk and all the anti social trolls who would cry for years if this site truly went belly up. actually this site performs a public service keeping assholes like ctm and that pedophile conspiracy from the general public

wpndrr what dhow Fux will death-slot next?

    by mdk

  • So Bell was brought back to life and encased in amber, huh? Interesting. Well, here's my two cents-- David Robert Jones knew that the Observers were going to take over. How he knew I have not figured out yet. But he knew. His entire scheme was to stop them. Jones was ZFT through and through. He believed in Walter's book that in the future, an unknown but powerful enemy would cause the world harm and that humanity would need to be saved. Well, that enemy is apparently the Observers. It would not surprise me that the Fringe team stopped Jones from tampering with both Earths allowing the Observers to takeover. And the device that Walter in 2036 must build is a time machine which would allow someone to go back in time and warn the Fringe team to let Jones continue with his mission. Just my two cents. Could be utterly wrong.

Evil Nina's warning in the last epoisode

    by Kirsan

She said something "much worse" was coming but what if she wasn't referring to another twinned car crash but to the Observers in 2015. And then how does the very inventive and oddly motivated Mr. Jones fit in with all that?

    Well !!!

    by 2LeggedFreak

Loved that episode and sad we won't see the immediate aftermath of these events. Just so much to think about -- in a really fun way, but the fact that we get answers from this show makes all the time invested in it worthwhile. Major thing for me, besides how good Walter was as usual ("These aren't the Droids you're looking for"), was how they built up empathy so quickly for Simon, Henrietta and even Rick the pimp. Great writing and a great show that scores more than it misses by a long way. Happy Days
