Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk - Another Trailer For THE THREE STOOGES Pokes You In The Eye!!

The Kidd here...

I'm not really sure what 20th Century Fox has been going for in promoting their coming release of THE THREE STOOGES. If you've caught any of the recent TV spots, they're mimicking the style of Paramount's PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 3 ads, and now they're trying to channel JACKASS. I know Paramount was able to sell people on the load of dog shit they had in THE DEVIL INSIDE, but ripping off some of their other tactics is no sure path to success.

Yahoo! debuted a new trailer for THE THREE STOOGES today, and if they managed to have one ounce of fresh physicality to show audiences come April 13, I'd be shocked at this point, because that's all we get. One blow after another after another after another... rinse and repeat...

I'll give the Farrellys credit for finding three actors who could pull off solid impersonations of Moe, Larry and Curly - Will Sasso, Sean Hayes and Chris Diamantopoulos - but, beyond that, I get the feeling no one has any idea what to do to get you to consider seeing this...

I've always loved the falling dummy bit

    by brattyben

For some reason that gag always gets a chuckle out of me. There's not much redeeming in this trailer. I did love Sean Hayes falsetto at the end there. That made me laugh. I'll just go watch the old shows. More gold there anyway, to be sure. Favorite TS line. Moe, Larry and Curly are sleeping in a bed and Curly is snoring. Moe slaps him on the head and says. "Hey you! Wake up and go to sleep!" I don't know why, but, when I first saw that bit, I laughed till I cried.

As a huge fan of the classic stooges, I really don't know what to feel. Agree with what's written in the article, is there any footage left that hasn't been shown in the trailer/tv spots??

KIDS ARE GOING TO LAUGH THEIR EVER-LOVING ASSES OFF AT THIS...

    by Somerichs

I hate to burst you collective nay-sayers' bubbles, but this is going to do big business at the box office. Huge, even. I'm not saying that's good or right, but it is a fact. You get one 6 year old to see this, he goes and tells all the boys in his kindergarten class how funny it is, and they all insist that their parents bring them. Said parents are familiar enough with the Stooges that they will have no problem taking their kids, for sake of curiosity if nothing else. It worked with the god-awful Yogi Bear, it worked with the slightly-less godawful scooby doo movies, and it will work here. Guaranteed.

    by Darth_Kaos

and I laughed my ASS OFF! Has did everyone else. Everybody was rolling, and I swear, the shit they do to Larry David (he plays a nun). They split it up into shorts, like the originals, which I thought was a good idea.Hopefully they'll keep it that way. At least that what I wrote on my card. Some of you younger knuckleheads (pun intended) need to watch some stooges. Classic. The Farrellys did an excellent job. very true the stooges, and casting was spot on! Thank god, Penn, Carey and I forgot who else didn't do this. I hope it does well, it's a stupid ass movie, that's a riot! But that's what it was suppose to be. So to all those who think this might be too low brow for you... eat shit and die and wait for Hangover 3 or Project X pt 2 to come out. I watching the Stooges!

    Sean Hayes--talented guy

    by drewlicious

That guy is a way more versatile actor than I originally took him for. Its probably because I detested "Will & Grace" and his character got old really fast.

    by Bib_Fortuna

Have to admit, they got the tone and silliness of the original trio down. When I was a kid in the 70s-80s I loved watching those old black and white shows. I don't know what you naysayers expect considering the source material... seriously it's the goddamn Three Stooges.

  • March 21, 2012 2:41 PM CST

    Why am I laughing?!!!

    by Superponte

I "know" that both trailers looks terrible, but they made me laugh twice now. I will probably give this a go April 13, despite my misgivings. There is something about the Stooges that is timeless, and I have a hunch that the Farrelly Brothers have tapped into it at some level.

  • March 21, 2012 2:45 PM CST

SPent 20 minutes trying to explain...

    by Big_Daddy_Nero

..to my 11 year old son about the Three Stooges, after seeing 21 Jump Street on Sunday, and the TS preview was on beforehand. He did not immediately dismiss it as 'stupid' just from the previews like he does with some other movies, but he really didn't know what to think of it either, because he has never really seen any of the TS films or shorts. I watched them a ton growing up, so I am well-familiar with them, and trying to explain them to someone with no clue, well, that was a difficult proposition. The closest I was able to come was in reminding him of Hugo, when they were showing the very early days of making movies, and that the Three Stooges came along very shortly after those days, while that sot of thing was still very new, and at that time, people just were beside themselves for insane over-the-top slapstick humor. I didn't bother trying to explain Vaudeville, maybe when he's older. But it did make me want to dig up my old TS collection and make him watch it with me, just so he gets a good education in what they did. And so I ask you, cynics and everyone else: If you were going to take a frankly beloved historical film memory like the Three Stooges, and make a modern homage, a new movie as a loving tribute (which I hope to God is what this thing is going to be), then how ELSE would you have done it? Maybe it will actually be decent? Is that even possible? Or are we just automatically cynical and dismissive even when people make something with their hearts in the right place? Still, I told him I doubt we will bother seeing it in the theaters, but would likely grab it from the Redbox when it comes out, probably very soon.

The marketing teamneeds to be fired

    by Cobb05

Stupid people who don't know who the stooges are will see the trailers and think it's a horror/comedy or some movie about religion. Who knows. But if they just showed 30 seconds of the stooges hitting each other, it might get some asses in the seats. The Farrelly Brothers need a hit badly. The Heartbreak Kid bombed. Hall Pass bombtankThis movie is going to tank. They better get the Dumb and Dumber sequel worked out cause they need a hit badly.

  • March 21, 2012 3:14 PM CST

    Still looks funny

    by Lummox JR

As a Stooges fan, both the trailers I've seen have hit all the right notes for me. It looks like they actually did build a movie around all the classic Stooges gags. I can't say if it'll really be good, but the trailers have far exceeded my expectations. When I heard the Farrelly brothers were doing the Stooges I thought it sounded all wrong, but the trailers are showing me something put together by someone with love for the original material. I'm willing to give it a chance. And if, as someone else suggested, it can be to the original Stooges what Brain Donors was to the Marx Brothers, I'm prepared to love it.

the real stooges. That was kind of uncanny, for a second I forgot I was supposed to be disdainful of these imitators, and just saw "the Stooges." Uncanny, yes. Seemingly as funny as the real guys, yes. A major film release, eh. If some "lost footage" of the original stooges was discovered, I dont think Id go pay to watch it in on a big screen, either. Id just wait for it to hit the stooge marathon (on after kung fu theater)

I think the Farrellys are smart to duplicate the simple camera setups that the Stooges used. But the most successful attempt to film actual slapstick lately has got to be the Pink Panther series, with the brilliant Peter Sellers and Blake Edwards. And that was how long ago?

  • Ranked from Most Enjoyable to Least Enjoyable. 1, Marx Brothers. 2. Little Rascals. 3. Laurel and Hardy. 4. Jerry Lewis (solo). A controversial choice, but the judges stand by it. And they're not even French. 5. Bob Hope (solo) 6. Abbott and Costello. 7. Hope and Crosby 8. Martin and Lewis 9. Don Knotts. 10. Three Stooges. by Greggers

Almost totally off topic, but Foley artists are the only group of people in America who haven't caught on to the fact that COMPUTERS DON'T MAKE NOISE when they perform functions, at least not the beeps and boops that you hear every time a computer "finds a match" on a CSI show (or any similar scenario). That sort of creative license with technology is so hacky, yet so ubiquitous, it's depressing. It's the 99 cent pricing of the movie world.

    Classic Comedy Tote Board, Addendum

    by Greggers

The judges had ruled that The Little Rascals was the second most enjoyable classic movie comedy property in perpetual rotation in the 1970s. But after a petition was filed by interests representing Laurel and Hardy, the matter was re-adjudicated, and the list has been revised as follows: 2. *PRE-ALFALFA* Little Rascals 9. *POST-ALFALFA* Little Rascals 10. Don Knotts. 11. The Three Stooges. There. What was perfect has now been made perfecter.

    Why mentions of Brain Donors?

    by Durendal

I can see some similarities, but Brain Donors had more in common with the Marx Bros than it did the Three Stooges, and even then it wasn't trying to BE the Marx Bros, only something along similar lines. John Turrturro was definitely a dirtier guy than Groucho...well, maybe just a little. As for this flick...eh, they have the slapstick and everything down, but it just feels a little off. It's not the Three Stooges, it's just a bunch of imitators and impersonators. You can't update those chowderheads because those chowderheads are gone and nothing can replace them.

  • ...and does a mean impersonation of Curly. Jus' saying. Not sure if he'll like this. Even he recognises Moe Howard was nothing short of an irreplaceable comedy genius.

    by Jared Syn

I love the Three Stooges, but I don't know how well their brand of comedy will hold up over the length of an entire movie; they're funnier in 15 - 30 minute bursts. They did seem to do a really good job with the casting, though.

  • March 21, 2012 8:31 PM CST

@intense_buttsecks you can say a lot about the brits...

    by Kevin Spellman

but "who gives a shit about what the Brits think is funny" is not one of those things. You're talking about the country that gave us Monty Python and Fawlty Towers. and Ricky Gervais may not be your cup of tea (no pun intended), but you have to admit that him and Stephen Merchant make an excellent comedic writing team. In America, for every Carlin and C.K., there's 5 Larry the Cable Guys and Dane Cooks behind them. I'm sure Britain's the same way, but none of the shitty comics are good enough to make it overseas. And the good ones that do are doubly as funny, because everyone knows a British accent makes everything funnier. Imagine how much less funny John Oliver would be if he didn't have his accent. Just saying...

DISORDERLIES- closest thing to a "modern" 3 Stooges

    by Ryan Fink

Call me crazy, say I have a warped sense of quality- It'd all be true, but the Fat Boy's movie Disorderlies from the late-80's is hands down the best modern version of the Stooges. And I think it was unintentional. I love the stooges. Not so sure how this new flick is going to be. I think we just saw the best parts. I mean, after all, that's what we loved them for. And why they always made shorts.

This film will create an upsurge of Stooge on Stooge violence

    by JAGUART

Look for news articles dealing with Stooge-related incidents and injuries.

    @finky099 - DIS-ORDERLIES

    by ag 721

Definitely agree with that it is with out a doubt the closest thing that has or will come close to repeating the chemistry of the stooges. With the exception of a flat out re-make like this of course.

  • ................I got nothin. It looks like flaming fucking dogshit.

Did Larry violate the stooge hierarchy by hitting Moe?

    by madhouseman

First off, Larry doesn't hit Moe. If he does, it is accidental. That said, I laughed pretty hard at this and I'll go to see it. These guys did Dumb & Dumber which may be the funniest movie of all time, so I'm aboard. QUIET NUMBSKULLS, I'M BROADCASTING!

  • March 22, 2012 2:53 AM CST

It had me with the lobster down Larry's pants.

    by ReportAbuse

Through simple accumulation of gags and hijinks, it ultimately attains to a transcendental level of stoogeosity that threatens to reach a critical mass of cosmic proportions, like a beam of cosmic rays from a quasar poking a black hole in the eye at light speed.

    Actually looks funny!

    by Poloboy

I agree with most here, I, too, couldn't believe I laughed that much at a movie trailer. Looks like it might actually provide a few laughs. I probably wait till it comes to HBO, Showtime, etc., and watch it. That bell falling on the nun cracks me up every time!

    The Three Stooges looks like

    by scratchmonkey

...the three stools. Which is oddly appropriate, considering that you couldn't pay me to shit into newly-opened wounds on the bodies of everyone associated with the production of this.

  • Did I miss anything?

  • March 22, 2012 9:11 AM CST

I like how they're marketing The Stooges as the original Jackass

    by Joe Plumber

So true. They actually did do a lot of their own stunts until they got too old. Of course, it's not too hard to tell when a stuntman or a dummy was substituted for a Stooge.

Settle Down Its Stupid Harmless Fun

    by DeltonParker

The original Three Stooges wasn't high art and sure after watching the original stooges with my brother there were several eye injuries, but I can still see.. Kind of Its just stupid physical humor mindless escapism and I'll probably go see it and laugh my ass off.. I don't get why people get so upset by stupid fun. Its kind of like getting upset at the 80 year old man at the beach who is wearing black dress socks with his shorts, it may be wrong and out of touch with time, but who cares its makes me laugh!

  • March 22, 2012 10:52 AM CST

Gotta admit I was skeptical of this...

    by ZodNotGod

BUT I did laugh and my 7 y/o nephew laughed when he saw the trailer for it attached to the Phantom Menance 3D release, so that's a selling point. I will take him to see it. I'm just glad its not another poisonous animated flick like Smurfs, Yogi Bear, Madagascar, SHRek or that junk ilk. Kid's comedies with balls is not a bad thing with our pussies kids today. The lobster down the pants, the wrestling gag made me laugh. Cant' help it. It's not Marx bros quality, but hey, what is these days... My only complaint, it should have been shot in black & white.

  • March 22, 2012 10:53 AM CST

Lauarel and Hardy aren't funny so they won't be reviving them.

    slighlty different from Stooges.

At least some remakes/reimaginings have some originality!

    by zombiehorror

Something that is sorely lacking here! To anyone that openly states, "I never cared for/liked the 3 Stooges but this looks hilarious!" or any statement to that effect you are a complete moron! It makes no sense to say you enjoy the slapstick antics of this but not the antics of the original creators (not that the Stooges were the only ones) of this brand of juvenile comedy!? This is a faux 3 Stooges, nothing more but even less. The original Stooges can be and will never be recreated only cheaply imitated, as apparent in this debacle. At the very least the Farrely's could have used the concept of three stooges and had the actors come up with their own characterizations of those archetype but nope; Instead they just have Sean Hayes, Chris Diamantopoulos and Will Sasso mimic the original Stooges and even attempt to make look like them!?? Whether you like all the incarnations of the Stooges or not at least the "buffoon" archetype was always played differently; Shemp wasn't a copy of Curly, Curly wasn't a copy of Shemp and neither Joe DeRita nor Joe Besser was copying anyone else! Lastly one of the reasons you have eye candy like Kate Upton and Sofia Vergara is because the original Stooge shorts often featured beautiful women! Anyone spending dough to see this deserves to witness the horror and travesty that I know this movie will be....and they deserve a good eye pokin' to boot!

  • Over time I feel that the early short films of the Stooges have transcended the low-brow slapstick genre.

  • March 22, 2012 11:36 AM CST

    jjsdyn-o-mitelensflares, I agree..

    by DeltonParker

I was talking with my Gramps and he was telling me the Stooges actually were an outlet for the great depression. Many people were out of work and the "average joe could still afford a nickel and go to the pictures", The Stooges were meant to be an outlet for the normal guy trying hard to work for his family, so it took everyday working and recreation situations and made them absurd, usually putting Stooges at the center with their "angry innocence". It is one of the few snapshots we have left of the great depression. So, hmm maybe it is high art.

    like darth_kaos, i saw a test screening

    by Jonathhan Kana

and it is indeed hilarious. entire audience was laughing. its a complete throw back but set in 2012, which is hard to do, but they pull it off. I was expecting junk and get gold, for the most part. Fun movie with alot of respect for the originals. darth_kaos, did you see this at Fox in LA too?

  • March 22, 2012 1:25 PM CST

oh and the trailers are TERRIBLE

    by Jonathhan Kana

they do a horrible job of selling the flick. The trailers show just gags, and if you see 2 minutes of gags in a row, its just too much. its going to turn any one of us off. I hate, hate hate hate hate the commercials. they went for the 'sell to the lowest common denominator' bullshit, even using the blocky red font to signal the idiots. But this movie is NOT that. its a good 7/10. fun fun movie.

  • March 22, 2012 2:07 PM CST

I think this will find its audience.

    by themikejonas

It'll probably flop in the theaters, but as someone who grew up watching the Stooges on Saturday morning in the '80s, count me as one of those who'll catch this on home video. I do think that, capitalizing on "The Artist," the movie ought to have been downcoverted to black and white.

  • March 22, 2012 3:03 PM CST

I was expecting junk and get gold

    by zombiehorror

I don't know about this movie being "gold"....gold plated maybe, but more likely just sh*t covered in gold spray paint! The only reason this movie may be "hilarious" in anyway is because it is ripping off the original(s), it isn't even an homage it is just a complete and utter rip off. Trailers may be TERRIBLE but sometimes (and in this case) they are just as terrible as the movie that the clips are derived from. Lastly I agree, unfortunately this dreck will probably find its audience but then again a lot of worthless-crap does.

  • March 22, 2012 3:42 PM CST

    Why can't...

    by Steve Shank

Shut yer gobs an' just have FUN with a movie for once. I watched the Stooges as a kid, and laughed my ass off because I wasn't an ADD-riddled, self-important JACKASS who could appreciate slapstick. This movie looks to be perfectly casted, and I will likely laugh my ass off once again. Nyuk you.

  • March 22, 2012 3:46 PM CST

I thought the trailer was funny.........

    by Keith Small

    ..........so sue me!

  • March 22, 2012 4:02 PM CST

    Nah zombiehoror its funny

    by Jonathhan Kana

its so funny that you forget about the pedestrian plot and you just become ten years old again. when a movie can do that to me, when isnt often, it gets a pass. my advice to you is to walk in there with your lowered expectations and just sit down. When it starts, stop critiquing and allow yourself to have fun. Trust me, as a fellow cynic, you will enjoy yourself. These trailers do a very, very poor job of selling the movie. There is absolutely no context to anything, and with no context, its not funny.

  • March 22, 2012 6:24 PM CST

    Sure it is...

    by zombiehorror

Stating that this is funny is like arguing that Gus Van Sant's Psycho is a great horror movie; Any moments of hilarity aren't genuine, they are recreated and copied from the people that did it better. I'll take my Psycho with Hitchcock, Perkins and Janet Lee and I'll take my Stooges with Moe/Shemp/Curly Howard and Larry Fine (and to a lesser extent Joe DeRita and Joe Besser)!

  • March 22, 2012 7:22 PM CST

You need to learn how to move on bro

    by Jonathhan Kana

Life goes on. Let go and enjoy yourself. Cant be mad all the time. This shit is funny.

  • March 22, 2012 8:38 PM CST

    Loves me some Stooges..

    by thot

...but I'm on the fence on this one. The trailers don't encourage me much, though I've gotten a few good laffs out of 'em. Fingers crossed!

  • March 23, 2012 8:12 AM CST

I'm stating my opinion, I'm not mad?!?

    by zombiehorror

Am using caps lock?! :) And I state again people may say that this is "funny" but it is only because it completely rips off the original Stooges shorts, their act and even the characters, it isn't even a different take on it....it is just a lame copycat plain and simple.

  • So what? It still made me laugh. I don't examine funny, I just laugh at it.

  • March 23, 2012 9:44 PM CST

Lauarel and Hardy aren't funny so they won't be reviving them.

Either You Hate Or Love Em....

    by george

Folks, it was the same years ago.. either you loved The Three Stooges or you hated them. Won't be any different this time around. Growing up with the Stooges in re-runs in the 80's... I LOVED THEM and so did almost every kid I knew. Those that "got" that kind of sense of humor always seemed to be the coolest and funnest people to hang out with. Everyone else just seemed dull and boring. If you know the stooges then you know that they nailed it in these previews. I have watched each stooge individually in the previews and each one is spot on! This is going to be great for Stooge fans. I was worried, but now I'm looking forward to it. Like many others... I have a gut feeling this will be a successful movie. Different and nothing like it out there.

  • March 24, 2012 1:07 AM CST

    by Jonathhan Kana

i loved em in the 80s, but i actually hated the trailers. loved the movie tho.
