Herc’s Sunday TV Talkback!! The WALKING DEAD Season Finale! Discuss Also LUCK, BURGERS, ONCE, BITCHES, AMAZING, SIMPSONS, UNCHAINED, FROZEN & 60 MINUTES!!

Shane’s resurrection last week established you don’t have to get bit to become a zombie; you merely need to die. I for one always assumed this was the case; the first zombie had to come from somewhere, right? Also, there are so many dang zombies, and they’re everywhere!

AMC says:

Rick and Carl return from the woods to find the farm in jeopardy. The group is split up in the ensuing chaos. With things looking grim, Rick’s leadership is questioned.

More in the text invisible.

Was a scene cut in which Carl cut a bunch of holes in Hershel’s fences? Expect zombie mayhem, followed by everybody fleeing the farm, followed by our first glimpse of the prison.

The first new “Mad Men” in 525 days airs next Sunday.

Next week brings the season finale of “Luck.” Two season-two episodes will air much later.

HBO says:

Ace counters Smythe's move with his own; Walter's horse and Ace and Gus' horse head for a major-race showdown; Leon's loss ends up being Rosie's gain.

More in the text invisible.

* Dustin Hoffman gets the first line of the episode: “Gus! Israel check in? Gus! Did we hear from the kid yet?”

* Ace’s buddy Gus goes to a dark place.

* Jill Hennessey’s veterinarian character gets more to do than usual this week.

* Jurgen Prochnow returns this week. So does Jerry’s pretty new girlfriend. Dennis Dun’s Leo Chan and Joan Allen’s Claire Lachey are wholly absent.

* The episode ends with Ace backing away.

Premiering tonight:

Frozen Planet (8pm Discovery) examines the most Hoth-like regions of Earth.

Unchained Reaction (10pm Discovery), from the folks behind “Mythbusters,” “pits two teams of varying backgrounds against each other to build an elaborate chain reaction contraption.”

* “Good Wife” last week got renewed for next season AND hit a new season low. The higher-rated “CSI Miami” did not get renewed last week. The power of an Emmy nomination!

* “GCB” improved on its premiere number. That doesn’t happen a lot.

* "Once Upon A Time" last week matched its series low.

* “Harry’s Law” continues as NBC’s lowest-rated scripted show not titled “The Firm.”

    The Walking Dead

    by rakesh patel

    Let's see what happens eh?

  • March 18, 2012 6:15 AM CST

    Shane didn't establish it

    by thommcg

The prisoner from earlier did surely! Anyway, finale looks like it'll be good, even if it had the a ridiculous setup.

  • March 18, 2012 6:23 AM CST

Due to the intense nature of the season finale...

    by gotilk

That reminds me of the old time horror film hypes. I kind of like it. If you have a heart condition, the season finale may be too much for you. The producers recommend that you do not watch. lol

  • March 18, 2012 7:03 AM CST

The Walking Dead is watched by a generation raised on remake of Romero's movies

    by Bullet_time_Facehugger

It's funny how many friends and acquaintances of mine who follow the walking dead were shocked that people didn't have to be bit to turn. These are people who aren't TOO much younger than me, and yet they don't know the rules of the living dead, hinting that they've never seen the original Night Of the Living Dead or even Dawn of the Dead. They've been raised on 28 Days Later and Snyder's Dawn remake. Also, these are people who went to film school mostly, and you'd think they would've seen night of the living dead at some point...

  • March 18, 2012 7:28 AM CST

Everyone being infected would be much scarier IRL

    by Alientoast

You can guard against zombies, but you really can't guard against death. You could have the mother of all zombie forts, but all it would take is one of your friends having a heart attack in the middle of the night and you'd find yourself waking up to zombie teeth in your throat. Kinda creates an aura of mistrust/paranoia.

  • Because the report I read said they'd been scrapped. Don't see the point of airing them myself, unless they're planning on rewriting the ending to give it a finale vibe...

  • March 18, 2012 8:19 AM CST

Re: Luck....yeah, initial reports I heard...

    by Executor

...said that the season finale was now series finale and Season 2 would never see the light of day. They were in the middle of filming ep. 2 when it was shut down. All they had was one completed s2 episode and maybe enough footage to cobble together a second episode...but what's the point?

  • Remember when they were going to drop the kid off, the security guard zombies attacked them and Shane commented they didnt have any bites or scratches on them. And if you think about it... Ricks S2 opening dialogue on the walkie talkie alludes to it as well.

  • March 18, 2012 9:11 AM CST

    We're all the walking dead!

I just hope Rick utters that classic line from the comic book at some point tonight.

Reponse to Herc's invisotext on Walking Dead KINDA SPOILERS

    by Rob0729

Last week Herschall said the creek was drying out and that Zombies could potentially get to the farm that way. We saw evidence of that with the zombie that kille Herscall. That is likely how the tons of Zombies got inside the gate.

  • to air one and a half season 2 episodes unless they do it in the next couple of weeks. Or unless they shoot some sort of finale (obviously sans horses) and air it as a 2 hour movie. I'd say more likely what ever has been shot for season 2 will simply end up as an extra on the "Complete Series" DVD.

American Dad! Cleveland Show! Family Guy!

    Hope Harry's Law gets renewed.

    by DavidBanner

  • I came late to this show, only been watching for a few seasons, but out of those seasons this is by far my least favorite group of contestants. I REALLY hoping the country folk can get past their roadblock this week and continue in the race, because everybody else kind of gets on my nerves.

  • March 18, 2012 11:59 AM CST

    No

    by Paul Paradis

The Yawning Dead writers have shown they'll create situations that make little sense for the convenience of shock effect. For example ninja zombies popping out of no where, or hordes of zombies drawn by a single shot appearing out of the same area of the woods where the characters just where 5 minutes ago. They're slow moving, but I guess for lazy writing sake they needed sprinting zombies like in the Dawn of the Dead remake.

  • March 18, 2012 12:03 PM CST

HBO will air a half-season, or even a couple episodes...

    by Jaka

...if it keeps people subscribing to their channel. They're pay cable, they can do whatever they want. Sopranos was one of the best things on television (some would argue the best) and they repeatedly let David Chase take a year in between seasons to figure out what he was going to do next. Broadcast networks can't do shit like that. They'd lose their viewers and advertisers.

    No infection im confused

    by monster man

ive never read any original material for walking dead so is this how it was written , surely there must be some sort of virus that causes it? or is it that everyone already has the virus but it doesnt cause death but brings you back from it , its got a bit too far fetched for me now.

  • March 18, 2012 12:51 PM CST

    monster man

    by ShadowVoyd

Maybe it's a naturally occurring virus or some new evolutionary genetic aberration as part of a human extinction event, or maybe it's something that was artificially created. However, whatever "it" is, nature of "it" and how and why "it" reanimates the dead hasn't been revealed and frankly, it works better that way.

Whatever "it" is that acts to reanimate the dead, the living are carriers of it in it's dormant state and "it" kicks in upon death.

  • March 18, 2012 1:06 PM CST

    Monster man

    by Dlgothv

Yes, it was written that way in the comics as well. And as for real life viruses, many can lie dormant for years until they suddenly activate. Right now in your genetic code, we all have leftover virus DNA that wiped previous generations of ancient humans that we eventually overcame through evolution. Even though we have created immunizations, there are still viruses out there that can pop out at any time. So no, a virus that activates upon brain death and restarts the "animal instinct" isn't that far from the realm of possibility.

  • March 18, 2012 1:19 PM CST

    nice explanation dlgothv & shadowvoyd

    by monster man

thanks for explaining , love the show and ive never been a zombie fan at all , shanes zombie rising was good but changed the show for me in the way i percieved the zombies

  • March 18, 2012 1:20 PM CST

    One theory

    by freerangecelt

just for the zombie virus, in general, that it replaces oxygen in the blood, and then kills the victim, jumpstarts the brain and then activates the most primitive motor centers and the need to feed, so, since the virus seems to center most in the brain, destroying it and exposing it to oxygen seems to be enough to kill it, and stop the zombie. Maybe.

  • March 18, 2012 1:27 PM CST

Milch usually ends his seasons with stuff mostly wrapped up.

    by Robert Evans

I wouldn't be surprised if Luck ended up with a good, mostly satisfying conclusion with some probably major things left lingering. He'll do his characters justice, though.

  • March 18, 2012 1:30 PM CST

Luck has gotten better as the season wears on.

    by Robert Evans

Still, it all feels like the first *book* or part of a larger *novel.* We're getting to know these characters, their environments, their lifestyle. I'm sorry we won't get to see more this world.

  • Problem is...there is no "Bible" for zombies. Otherwise we'd only have Voodoo Priests able to raise them. Just look at "White Zombie" for an example of what us North Americans thought zombies were all about only 90 years ago. What I'm trying to get at is that any and all interpreters of "Zombies" are doing does not need to based on the "rules" set in the passed? We ain't talking about the Star Wars universe here folks.

  • *could have sworn there was no "?" in the meat of my argument. The should also be a *being* between "Voodoo Priests" and "able" (Which I could swear I had already typed.)

  • March 18, 2012 2:53 PM CST

@Monster man - How the zombie virus works

    by Dustin

...Following classic Romero-rules, everyone who dies, for any reason, will re-animate as a zombie except if the brain is damaged/destroyed. Even someone killed by a gunshot wound with no zombies involved at all will re-animate as a zombie. Zombie bites are not how the "infection" is spread. Instead, zombie bites and saliva cause infections that are 100% lethal. Characters have speculated, but cannot confirm, that whatever causes zombies to re-animate is some sort of virus that everyone in the world is technically infected with but is only triggered by death. It is known, however, that upon death, it can take anytime between three minutes and eight hours for the corpse to reanimate...

  • March 18, 2012 3:13 PM CST

How the Zombie Virus works part two

    by Dustin

Robert Kirkman wrote:...the rule is: WHATEVER it is that causes the zombies, is something everyone already has. If you stub your toe, get an infection and die ... you turn into a zombie. UNLESS your brain is damaged. If someone shoots you in the head and you die ...you're dead. A zombie bite kills you because of infection, or blood loss ... not because of the zombie "virus.""

  • March 18, 2012 3:13 PM CST

How Zombie virus works (the source)

    by Dustin

    http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/Zombies

  • I think or something along those lines. I mean if we are being honest here, By now the ashes from the burning bodies would be in the air along with the contamination to the ground water. But I think it is like I said, A virus that is activated by low body temperature or the deactivation of certain nerological functions. Or maybe along the lines of my story it is nanotech gone wild. Or aliens or jesus.

  • March 18, 2012 3:30 PM CST

Californication and House of Lies are new tonight

    by F1rst

And no mention of these shows? Not everyone's cup of tea I admit, but Mad Men (which isn't on tonight) gets mentioned? Btw, Californication has been consistently good this season.

  • March 18, 2012 4:29 PM CST

    Ditto on Californication ....

    by Itchy

Last season pretty much sucked, but this season has really been solid. And House of Lies has gotten much tighter as the season wears on .... Don Cheadle is starting to layer some depth on Marty, and Kirsten Bell is spending more time in her underwear, which is definitely a good move by the producers.

  • I watched em on my own. Along with all the artsy crap they make you watch like Breathless, which I hope I never have to see again.

    I don't understand

    by levithegreat

I realize sometimes shows have to do stuff to add drama, or they step on their toes with continuity, but how is it we have seen dead people throughout the show then? I maybe wrong but I thought in the season 2 opener there were many dead bodies in cars on the highway? Why were they not zombies? For that matter how did they die? That many people just dies sitting on the highway? Again not complaining, just curious if I remember or wrong, or if not if anyone has a viable explanation.

  • March 18, 2012 7:40 PM CST

    levithegreat you are correct

    by Xiphos_2

There were dead bodies in the cars on the highway that didn't turn. The out they will use for that is probably saying the virus mutated later or some such cop out.

More lazy storytelling. Having to adjust after the fact to make the shitty writing they did before make sense just makes this shitfest all the more laughable. Plus now they worry about where the child is.

    Randall's broken neck?

    by RollingBarrelDotCom

So I just have question... since Randall's neck was broken, wouldn't he be paralyzed even as a zombie. He should have been a biting snapping growling head with a useless body. If you're going to have rules in a "universe" then stick with them. Just thought of that watching the repeat of yesterday. This season finale is gonna go a long way at making them realize that they are never safe and making them harder and more survival ready both mentally and in actual preperation.

  • Not all of it as twisted and dark as that, but almost always great. It's probably my favorite ongoing title at the moment. Have you checked out Fairest yet? Looks like it could be another good one from the land of Fables.

    Lies

    by Truxton Spangler

I almost gave up on it, but Cheadle has been worth watching. SHO has a nice little thing going with it and Shameless on Sun nights. As for TWD, I didn't read it, and I'm OK with being spoiled venturing into an article with the label attached, and practically-speaking considering the idiotic things people do on the internet, but posting complete plot summaries is a bit much, isn't it? I suppose an expression of displeasure from AMC might prompt some action on AICN's part, similar to what happened when ABC got pissed about Lost, but it seems there's a lack of adult supervision all round in this case.

  • March 18, 2012 8:29 PM CST

Bucky Barnes on ONCE UPON A TIME

    by Blanket-Man

Next week, Sebastian Stan guest-stars as the Mad Hatter. And Roger Daltrey appears, too. Tonight's ep was one of the better ones of late (the more Rumpelstiltskin, the better), but I'm still getting a very familiar *cough* LOST *cough* vibe - the writers keep piling on subplot after subplot, and I'm pretty convinced that they have no idea where all this is going. I'd have bailed a month ago but my kids like it... And, hey, Bucky's on it next week!

I agree that some of the writing is bad....but that opening had me basically riveted to the tv, I felt transported into that world when the horde surrounded Andrea, Michonne showed up with sword and jawless zombies in tow, and they teased the prison. And people were eaten in gruesome fashion by hordes of the undead. I'm not sure how much more you want from a tv show...

Where everybody hates everything! It has become so predictable how people react on this site I would think that it has become a parody of itself. The Zombie Apocalypse would be a good thing. Just to see most of you weeded out of the gene pool. Bitches!

  • Lori's reaction to Rick's "confession" was indeed infuriating (same with whatsherface), but if you turned the sound off every time someone started to talk, it wasnt a bad finale. It had its moments. But yeah seriously where the fuck does Lady Macbeth get off not supporting Rick? He basically did her dirty work for her, and he was extremely reluctant to do it. Rick still hasnt done anything that would constitute murder, given the circumstances.

    What don't people understand

    by matthooper8

The writing is abysmal this season. Characters are doing things to move the story along, instead, the story should be moving the characters to do things. No one with the exception of Shane and Dale are consistent. They are having people doing stupid things to create conflict. Nothing is organic, it's all forced. And the real problem is the things they have them doing are completely against type.

  • March 18, 2012 9:31 PM CST

Aragorn got really emotional. Emmy clip?

    by Mugato5150

I really thought they were going to kill Short Round. And the girl trips on something in the woods? Really?

  • It just got them started in that direction. It was an example of how a herd can form.

  • Actually, Carl could stand to be killed too. I loved this episode. Stuff happened. Daryl Dixon rode his motorcycle through the zombie-speckled fog in a badass way. Michonne appeared, prison in the distance. I get why people don't like the show. It always fails to live up to the promise. The writing is kind of bad. But it always, always shows glimpses of the perfect thing it won't ever be, which is why it's maddening. But, eh. It's still fun. When it hits the ground running it's amazing. Kirkman just said on Talking Dead that the last three episodes of this season is an indication of where they want to take it next year. That's encouraging, I feel the show started to find its feet near the end. I think -- I hope -- the problems this year were more about being torn between two masters than an inherent curse on the production. The show Darabont would have given us was never allowed to happen as it should have, but I don't hate what we've got left. I like it a lot. And just, fuck yeah, Michonne. I can see the trepidation, I guess, sort of, in an academic way. I just know that Michonne worked in the comic -- didn't seem silly, seemed a product of a world gone Mad Max, which fits in with the Governor and prison. Two seasons of panicked, unprepared civilians wandering around in the dark needs to give way to the post-human world, and Michonne is fairly post-human.

  • March 18, 2012 9:39 PM CST

LOL @ the introduction of Michonne not being realistic.

Love the "I only watch it for comedy" folks

    by RollingBarrelDotCom

Seriously, its ok to be a little critical of something that you like to watch or have high hopes for, but if its not worth your time don't watch. There is a big world out there. Take the hour to read a book, listen to a new band, exercise your more than likely out of shape body or whatever will make you happy instead of trying to not be a whiny, attention seeking douche bag getting off by pissing on what some other people are enjoying. I just was hoping to see some chatter about Michonne. I was pretty hyped about seeing her appear and join the show. Like the who group gonna have to change b/c they realize you are never safe. The prison is coming about 3 episodes in they will get there but they will need time to meet new characters to fill out the prison with more survivors. May as well just embrace the show as something that carries some themes from the show but just experiments and tries to live up to its literary inspiration. Doing that and not nit picking what little minutia wasn't explained in detail or what was left out makes it a much better experience. Or just waste more of your time dwelling on things that you aren't interested in.

  • March 18, 2012 9:48 PM CST

    by Felix

there wasn't anything funny about it. It was cool and tantalizing. Anyone who has a problem with episode is retarted. It was all awesome. Even the zombie headshots 100% percent accuracy was fine. It illustrated that the odds where impossible and they had no chance of beating them.

    by chad kuhns

If the 'writing is so horrible', and if you feel the show has taken such a turn for the worse, why the fuck are you watching it? People need to realize that not every second of the show is going to follow every panel of the graphic novels, and that subject matter is going to be changed. That's how it goes...deal with it, or watch something else. If you are watching the show just to hate on it, you are an idiot.

It was a chance to ditch the fat comic book followers, and they failed. A hooded woman dragging two zombies on chains is indeed SY-FY network bad. Next up stop motion zombies lol. I don't think this season was meant to be a comedy, but I laughed at every turn. From the lazy, shitty writing to the way they killed off people (Dale) because they supported Frank Darabont then tried to play it off like it was something else.

Your comment about Lady Macbeth is funny. I've been calling her that these past few episodes. Lori in the comic wasn't the best either but on the show she is such a flip flopper! First she wants Shane to stay away from Carl then she wants him to be friends with him, back and fourth on that same issue. She tells Shane that she doesn't want him then she hits on him. by Felix

I was so annoyed by how it took 3 to 6 episodes for anything to actually happen. Carl was on death's door ("He could die ANY minute!") for like 5 episodes, almost as long as Sofia was "missing". And in most episodes all they did was talk about the same thing all epsodes. Rick and Laurie talking about something, cut to Shane and Andrea talking about something, but back to Rick and Laurie talking about the exact same thing they were talking about before, etc. The end of this season has shown an incredible improvement. But, no. These trolls think it's more fun to hate something than admit the show actually is getting better. And season 3 is going to kick ass no doubt.

    Stop feeding the trolls...

    by giantballsack

That was a great season finale. All the past gripes about nothing happening, no zombies, too much dialogue are all out the fucking window with this one. There is nothing to complain about. And frankly, just like the Sophia thing, without all the dialogue and slower pace the payoff is nowhere near as good. Sure they could do an epic zombie kill frenzy every show, but that would get boring. Leave 'em wanting more...ever heard that phrase? Thats what keeps people coming back. Anyway the trolls know this. Their arguments suck. don't be goated.

    Great finale until ...

    by Behemoth

Stupid Lori does the old "don't touch me" routine to Rick. How EFFING STUPID. I mean, she basically ASKED Rick to kill Shane earlier, and now she's "repulsed" by his admission?? Yeah, I get she's upset that Carl was involved, but she was obviously backing away before that even came up. So. Dumb. And also the group getting upset with Rick for not telling them that anyone who dies wakes up zombie, something he didn't even know until the previous night. Maybe, MAYBE they'd be a little annoyed with him for this, but to sit around and say, "He's not safe to be around since he didn't tell us that."??? Who writes this crap? The show was VERY enjoyable up until then, but they always seem to derail it with just the absolute crappiest, logic-free (even for a zombie show) writing. And is there any reason at this point to keep that pathetic short-haired skank around? SHE, without a doubt, is the most annoying, pathetic character in the whole group. Totally useless, totally thankless and unappreciative ... man, I was hoping she wouldn't make it out of the farm.

  • Also Michone! Prison! All of those other guys were probably from The Governor's group!

    by crazyyog

Or at least not when those people in the cars died. Jenner tested all of their blood and just because the group was infected it doesn't mean that everyone in the world was or is.

  • And the zombies weren't following the helicopter, it just made one of them walk this way. As Abraham summed it up when Kirkman first introduced the concept of herds in the book, "They go that way because they're dumb as shit"

    Good shows evolve

    by chaseguy17

The Walking Dead was a science fiction show from the start. However, it was a science fiction show mostly grounded in reality (similar to the first couple seasons of lost). There is only so much you can do with the same elements before they get stale. The way i see it, the writers gave the audience a grand finale of zombie killing (where everybody had 100% shooting accuracy and they threw us everything but the kitchen sink) before introducing very unique fictional characters in season 3. Will this piss of some? of course. The writers know you can't have action every episode. You need to focus on the characters. In a science fiction series like the walking dead, you have more liberty to introduce more far-out but interesting characters. Another season of just zombies wouldn't cut it. You need "The Others." I see Walking Dead evolving similar to LOST. Some love it, but others will hate it. I've felt this show has needed to turn more towards the Science Fiction road most of this season. Eliminating "more" of the realism isn't "always" bad. it depends on how skilled the writers are. We could get a very intense, messed up, freaky season 3 if everything is done right.

    Michonne & the chained zombies...

    by Jarek

Those complaining that the chained zombies are SyFy channel bad are making a judgement with zero context to draw from. This is straight out of the comics, and *SPOILER* are the walking corpses of her boyfriend and brother. She can't sever the emotional tie so she cuts their arms off and pulls their teeth out, and drags them along with her. Personally, I can't wait to see the insanity Michonne will bring to the series.

  • March 18, 2012 10:39 PM CST

    by Felix

In a world with zombies, is a girl with a samri sword all the unrealistic? You don't have to reload a sword only sharpen in occasionally. I definitely believe there will be some "others" type storylines in the future with the Governor's peeps, etc.

She was with Rick until he got to the part about Carl killing walker Shane. Something about that unnerved her deeply as a mother. But her reaction prior to that revelation showed that she understood and was feeling sympathetic towards Rick.

  • March 18, 2012 10:47 PM CST

    redwhitenegro,

    by Felix

It's simple chaos theory, the butterfly effect. One zombie goes in one direction, another sees him and follows him, and then another, and another, and another. It's a herd and part of the comic mythology.

If it did truly suck then the comparison doesn't hold. I'm not saying this is a bad show that is getting high ratings, but rather a badly written and often illogical show that somehow remains very fun and engaging. I guess it's the zombie aspect. The writing is painfully bad at times, but dammit I'm still enjoying it.

  • March 18, 2012 10:55 PM CST

    @redwhitenegro

    by Thomas

its almost as "conVEENient" as you suddenly not understanding the idea of simple chance. Zombies started walking. They followed something, one way, then followed something else another way. The horde got larger. Eventually, this horde, by chance, ran across the group of survivors which the TV show happens to be about. I'm sure you would rather this episode have been about the other survivors who did not get attacked by a bunch of zombies, as you have made it clear how much you enjoyed the previous episodes that didn't involve a zombie horde. I understand a lot of the gripes about this show, but that was a really good season finale. In my estimation, the quality of the show has gone up quite a bit since the departure of Darabont. I think people who have stuck with it may be in for a good ride.

There is *zero* reason to think that the zombies marched "straight" to the farm. Zero. Since the lookouts don't have x-ray vision or zombie radar or a 300 ft tall lookout tower, they would probably have a hard time spotting the zombies through, oh I don't know, the rather extensive woods which they were shown walking through AFTER breaking through the fence. And worrying about the fact that some zombies were shown walking when the gun went off instead of standing, you're probably right. There's no way some zombies were moving and some were standing still.

    TWD Stinks, Straight Up

    by ElPalabraUltimo

The only way that you can enjoy TWD is a) as a very subtle comedy, b) if you are a fucktard with incredibly low standards or c) you have been abused by shitty television for so long that your standards have plummeted to the point that you no longer know that you're watching complete shit. TWD is fucking absurd, and that can be a great thing in a comedy, but as a drama it is an epic fail. Look...Carl (aka The Lil' Buckeroo o' Death as I laughingly call him) WAS pointing his gun at Daddy, straight up...Shane wasn't even reanimated at that point. Straight at ol' Dad. Then somehow he shoots through Dad to eventually hit zombie Shane (who Dad didn't hear crunching and faintly growling behind him in the STILL STILL QUIETEY ULTRA-QUIET night) I suppose for dramatic effect...but make no mistake, we never see him pivot and fire...no, he has bullets courtesy of Buckeroo Banzai that go straight through solid matter, but then phase in in time to hit oh-so-solid Shane. See, cause we're supposed to believe he shot at Rick, but see, he made an important character-driven choice and chose his Dad over Shane by shooting through Dad. Gorsh, that sure were suspenseful. Fucking retarded, and worse, dishonest. At least clearly show the kid pivoting to shoot...and then explain about Buckeroo Banzai's bullets, and how they briefly travel through matter. And also how the 'lil Buckeroo o' Death became such an incredible shot as to hit zombie Shane at that distance in the dark of night with a single headshot. And why he wouldn't, like, you know, yell out "Dad! Duck!" or something, just so he wouldn't have to shoot through the guy (who he had been aiming at with Buckeroo O' Death rage and loathing quite a while BEFORE Shane stood up...but yeah, I'd have to be a hater to nitpick about this shit, right? I am so ashamed...I wish I could lower my intelligence sufficiently to smile idiotically while being served a shit sandwich, but alas, no matter how much I try to brain damage myself watching this shit, just when I think every week that this show can't get worse, as my intelligence drops it drops in plothole quotient and fucktardery just too fast for me to keep up...dammit. Why can't I just love?) Of course, everyone tonight was such an incredible shot in the dark...woo hoo! Amazing! Everybody, bang on, in the dark, headshot, headshot, headshot! Hilarious (or painfully bad, depending). Of course, that was just an action movie cliche of minor shititude compared to the fucktarded bullshit of "they followed the helicopter to the farm" conceit they tried to use to explain this crap. (And yeah, I get it, they were trying in their cute fucktarded way to say that a random event started them on their way in that direction, like a butterfly wing in the Amazon stirring a hurricane across the globe, but see for that kind of plot device to work, you'd need a whole lot of good will built up toward the series in general...writing that is sufficiently engaging and intelligent for the audience to allow them that sort of leeway, a trust in other words that they know what they're doing. But the way that they implemented it was amateurish...I knew what they were trying to get at, but they did it so badly that I couldn't get the thought out of my head that the writers intended for the zombies to be following a helicopter to the farm...given the number of piss-poor coincidences, contrived theatrics, and sheer bad writing of the past few seasons, I couldn't be sure that the writers weren't having the zombies follow a helicopter. That thought should never enter a viewer's head, but it did because yeah, these writers suck THAT bad.) Yeah...bad like everyone scattering and then showing up at a rendezvous point that we never see discussed. Bad like Shane, who IS a ruthless killer with a LOT of motive to kill Rick and a LOT of simmering resentment built up, is going to dance around with Rick and allow himself to get stabbed rather than just implement his plan...yeah, really believable. And yeah, you can play the hidden motive card and say that part of Shane just wanted to die, but see that's where the whole "writery-dramay" thing comes into it. If you're gonna force a character to do something apparently completely out of character for him (ie allow himself to get killed), you'd better show us something to justify and foreshadow that...that's the difference between character development and a random plot device to cheaply and cynically surprise people. If we look back and see a surprising reaction makes sense, that's good writing. If it's just completely out of the blue just so the gullible idiots will be surprised, it's just manipulative bullshit, making characters randomly jump through surprising hoops to appear original. Well, nothing is more surprising than complete random chaos. I'd have been very surprised if Shane had stripped off his pants and been wearing a tutu underneath, and had taken Rick out with balletic pirouettes and kicks while humming "Swan Lake", but unless we'd seen that Shane was an aspiring ballet starlet in drag in his high school years, it's an empty surprise. It's bullshit. Just like that scene. Hell, just like the majority of scenes in this stupid fucking show. But you know, the kicker for me was Olive Oyl tonight. Olive Oyl, the most unattractive in the whole comic strip that nevertheless drive Popeye and Bluto to fight over her. Could Olive Oyl (I mean whats-her-name, Laurie) be ANY cuntier? Just when you think that Olive couldn't have any greater cuntitude, holy shit, they just add another magnitude to the cunthter scale. Jesus God, I hate that fucking bitch. I've hated her from the start, and it just gets worse. I would even consider crediting the writers with being geniuses of a high order for creating one of the most obnoxious gashes in the history of the moving picture...except I'm not sure if they mean to. A fascinated and horrified part of me wonders if they actually like this woman. I mean, do they look at her and think, yeah, this is a woman worth fighting over? Or is it more ineptitude on their part? I was ALMOST going to give them credit last week. I am not a "hater". I have rarely posted anything at all about this show, and I've kept watching HOPING that this mess would somehow fix itself. So when Olive had that scene last week with Bluto thanking him for saving her, I thought "this is honestly the first time that I've ever felt this woman was human, the first sincere and credible scene this character has ever had, maybe they're finally getting their shit together"...but NOOOOOOOO! FUCK-no! None of the kind! Nope, they only had her perform this scene, after TWO SEASONS of scenes where she CLEARLY wanted to be with Rick and told Shane CLEARLY to give it up, just so that tonight when Rick fesses up that he took care of the problem...IN SELF-DEFENSE...that daffy bitch can cunt-out and shun him. THAT WAS THE ONLY REASON FOR THE ALLEGED CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! SO THEN SHE COULD COMPLETELY ACT AGAINST HER "CHARACTER" AND "SURPRISE" EVERYONE BY REJECTING RICK AND, SURPRISE SURPRISE, SETTING A NEW STANDARD FOR CUNTINESS!!! BWAHHAHAHAHAHAHA! ohhhh fuck, it is to laugh. This show is a joke. Week by week, it insults our intelligence. Some people are too stupid, or perhaps sadly hopeful like abused puppies who still wag their tails every time their drunken owner comes home because maybe this time they won't get kicked, to see it, but honestly: TWD is one of the worst written shows on television that isn't a sitcom. A number of sitcoms are worse, but that's little comfort. So TWD isn't THE ugliest waitress at the truckstop, fine. But fuck...she is ugly enough. What a piece of complete shit.

cutting Darabont out killed the show for me

    by Monroville

I've made the point before, and others have made it just above me here in this thread. The problem is characters acting out of character, and stupid things happening just for the sake of moving (or not moving) the story along. Frankly, I lost interest in the show when Dale bought it, walking out AT NIGHT, BY HIMSELF. There is only so much stupidity you can take from people you are supposed to care about before they become like teenagers in a FRIDAY THE 13TH movie (who at least have the benefit of NOT knowing of Jason's existence.... at least in the first 3 movies). So I will still watch just to see how it plays out, but I won't be spending my money on any media format.

    Hey fanboy apologists

    by Paul Paradis

If the zombies are that easily distracted, and herded into a direction by the smallest of things then they would have most likely never made it all the way to the farm without something steering them into another direction. Something else. The motorcycle was extremely loud. Why didn't that draw them out as well? I'll tell you why. It's called shitty writing. Convenience is the correct word for what happened. They needed an excuse for the farm being overrun, and Kirkman and his moron writers couldn't think of a better way to make it happen.

  • It's like the lottery. Any one set of numbers has the same chance of winning as any other set of numbers. The reason you can't wrap your head around this concept is that the human brain is incapable of generating randomness. We naturally organize thoughts based on our own frame of refferences. Zombies operate without these prejudices which is why it's perfectly acceptable that they are heading in that direction. Also, the helecopter moment is meant as a storytelling tool to remind the audience of the first season premiere and forshadow that the origin and fate of that helicopter will be revealed in the future. Also, the scene in last weeks episode didn't linger long enough to reveal any info about the herd except that they were there and heard the shot resulting in the farm being compromised. You sir, are the fucking moron.

Oh you must mean that water tower that they were shown to be working on to make a lookout tower, which would still be nowhere near high enough to see over that large forest. Yeah they really should have shown them trying to use that water tower as a lookout tower. Damn, there I go with the sarcasm again. Look, I'm with you and the many others that find some (alot) of the writing to be lazy and sloppy, but I also disagree on many points, such as the zombie herd. It is perfectly explainable to me, albeit far-fetched. Agree to disagree I suppose.

    by Thomas

Did you see an episode that I didn't? Yeah, they showed the zombie herd in the same places that the survivors were, but they didn't show every bit of their entire journey. They were simply using what had already been shown as points of reference to indicate travel. Who knows where they were in between?

Laurie only reacted badly about Carl shooting

    by ElPalabraUltimo

Again, even if true, what fucking bullshit. TERRIBLE writing. She's already allowed Carl to take shooting lessons, so that bullshit conflict was already resolved. Rick already explained that Shane was gonna kill him. And even if Laurie missed that part that Shane was a zombie when Carl shot him, she still can't have missed that whole "Shane was gonna shoot Rick" part...that part went on at some length, so even a stupid bitch like her couldn't have missed that little tidbit. Of course, Laurie could've rightly been pissed that Rick let Carl sneak out of the house on his own at night with a gun, right? I mean, what kind of fucking worthless incompetent parent would let Carl go out of the house like that, FUCKING RICK...oh wait, that was Laurie. Oops. Worthless bitch. ARRGH! (Of course, it's possible that Carl, like the bullets he shot through Rick to hit zombie Shane with, can pass briefly through solid matter...and yeah, he was aiming right at Rick, sorry apologists, Shane wasn't even risen yet...anyway, how you gonna keep a non-corporeal lil devil like Carl inside when he can float through the wall? Either that, or she's a suck parent. Take your pick.)

    @jae683

    by Thomas

I guess first of all I should make the line of demarcation for Darabont's departure, as I understand it, to be teh mid-point of season 2. I think you might need to revisit the footage. The premiere episode of season 1 was fantastic, almost certainly the best of the series. For me, however, the show was mostly uninspiring for the majority of season one and most of the first half of season 2. Only after the season 2 midseason break did I start to really feel the suspense and some character development (Daryl excluded. His development has been great from the start) that made me start to get interested in the characters. I read the comics and love them. I didn't care about Rick, Dale, or Andrea until midway through season 2, where they actually started developing. And the bad writing had been there from the start. If you don't believe me, go back and watch the scene in season one where Andrea and her sister are talking in the canoe to start the episode. Awful.

It is undoubtedly true that Lori is a suck ass parent and an incomparable bitch and a fucking idiot on the show. Lori is easily the biggest and most legitimate gripe about the show if you ask me, but what she does for fans of the show is give them somebody to love to hate. I was rooting hard for her to get dead in the season 2 finale, knowing it wouldn't happen.

    by Alientoast

Seriously, do people not watch the fucking show? Some posters noticed it, but most of the whining fucks on this board lack observational skills. It's pretty much a fact that with the exception of REALLY poorly written shows/movies/etc, the majority of "plot holes" or "people not acting in character" are just the viewer having the attention span of a fruit fly on cocaine. As for the zombie horde just moving in a direction after something caught their attention...Romero, Max Brooks, and the comic have all used that. It's nothing new. They're mindless zombies...they follow something, and keep following it, long after the the thing is no longer there. I mean, FFS, that's one of the things that "slow zombie" fans bring up as one of the reasons they LIKE slow zombies vs. fast zombies.

what is the point of all the bitching about the Walking Dead? ?

    by themovieweasel

Is the show perfect? no, but why take so much pleasure in insulting anybody who enjoys it? If you don't like it, don't watch it. If the show is bad and nobody watches then it will get cancelled. Maybe you have better taste than I do, and if that is so more power to you, but just let the fans enjoy the show. I like reading what other fans have to say, but when it turns into a contest on who can insult the show and its viewers the most, it doesn't benefit anybody and it only makes you all look like stereotypical antisocial basement dwellers.

  • March 18, 2012 11:35 PM CST

    @notenoughbiehn

    by Thomas

That is kind of one of the things explored in the comic books. It comes up quite a lot actually, and I'm sure it will in the show too. My answer? Rick is a person who is willing to make decisions for everyone else. Nobody other than Shane (on the show) is willing to step up to the plate in that respect.

  • March 18, 2012 11:35 PM CST

    Alien toast is correct.

    by Felix

Anyone who's read Max Brook's wonderful Zombie Survival Guide knows this as a 100% logical zombie behavior. One of the reasons many true zombie fans love the Walking Dead comics as it pretty much follows this guide to the letter. The haters are just poser zombie fans who don't actually follow zombie lore in all it's incarnations.

  • March 18, 2012 11:38 PM CST

Alientoast...Lori was pissed Carl was there???

    by ElPalabraUltimo

And whose fucking fault was that exactly? Which parent let Carl sneak out of the house? And she's mad that Carl shot Shane to save his father and her husband? Sooooo...this makes sense to you? This is good writing? It MIGHT be good writing if they were trying to depict Laurie as mentally incompetent of emotionally unstable, because clearly there's no logic in what you're asserting they're asserting, but to represent that reaction as a cogent and logical reaction is absurd. It's bad writing, if true...but frankly, I don't buy it. After the trauma of that horrible night, not knowing if your husband or son are alive, you don't get all stand-offish to the man you love, no matter what. Unless, of course, you are the cuntiest woman ever written.

  • Not really into watching gore, but this stuff does make me curious and reading about it lets me imagine it all. I'm curious though for someone who has read the comics, from what I understand book/season 1 is in the city, 2 in a farm and 3 at a jail. So where do all of the other books take place? Isn't there like 15 or so now?

Heres a SPOILER that I found about who has been cast as Michonne

    by room23storeblogspotcom

New Character & Actor Announced for Walking Dead Season 3 (Spoilers!) Source: AMC TV March 18, 2012 A fan favorite character will be joining the cast of AMC's "The Walking Dead" Season 3 and we now know who will be playing him or her, but If you haven't watched the season 2 finale of AMC's "The Walking Dead," please STOP READING NOW! We're serious, because we're about to announce the casting of a character who was introduced in that episode who may come as a surprise to some. So last chance... MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!! DO NOT SCROLL DOWN BELOW THIS POINT IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE FINALE! Tonight's Season Finale of AMC's "The Walking Dead" was full of surprises including a couple reveals in the last ten minutes that were likely to send fans of the comic books into spasms of excitement. In a climactic scene as Laurie Holden's Andrea is about to get chomped by a zombie, she gets saved with the sword slice of a character every fan of the "Walking Dead" comic book has been waiting for since the series started. The camera pulls back to reveal a shadowy female figure in a cloak covering her face with two zombies chained to her, which is a pretty cool image in itself (inspired by the image at left). Those who never read any of the comics were probably just wowed by that, but everyone who has read the comics knew immediately that this was Michonne, the bad-ass with a samurai sword who has proven herself to be tougher than most of the men trying to survive the zombie hordes. Up until now, it's been kept a fairly guarded secret when she might be revealed, plus they have kept the identity of the actress who would eventually play her an even bigger secret, but during AMC's "Talking Dead" show that followed the season finale, "Walking Dead" creator and the show's executive producer Robert Kirkman revealed the identity of the actress who would play Michonne and it's... Danai Gurira!! The name may only be familiar if you watch HBO's New Orleans drama "Treme" because she's appeared on six episodes, but Ms. Gurira has been making small appearances on television shows and in movies for years. Getting the gig as Michonne is huge and is very likely to make her a household name if the show keeps doing as well for AMC as it has the last two seasons. To tie into her introduction on the show, there's also a six-page Michonne origin story in the April issue of Playboy Magazine on newsstands now. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=88158

  • Hate all you want, people love the show. You and your haters are in the minority.

    Alientoast...Regarding the Zombie Hoard...

    by ElPalabraUltimo

You're right, it's a device that's been used, and in itself is not a bad idea. I think the issues that people have with this are: the surprising ability these zombies have, as hoards and individuals, to appear out of nowhere like fucking ninjas. It was HILARIOUS, that whole CROWD of zombies coming up along side Rick and the Lil Buckeroo O' Death, and they don't even hear the growls, the twigs snapping, the joints creaking, until they're RIGHT THERE! (And they've pulled this shit before, that wide open vista along the highway in broad daylight, and all those zombies just MATERIALIZE FROM NOWHERE!) I mean, hello? This doesn't push your bullshit meter into the red? They do it over and over again, it was bad once, worse twice, and complete garbage now man! If you absolutely must check your brain at the door to watch something, dammit there's a problem! It's just insulting!

    Complaints

    by Epsilon

Don't worry kids, I have arrived to settle which complaints are valid and which just make you whiny little bitches. You're welcome. 1. The helicopter zombie chase: I'll give this one a pass. At least they gave a reason for why a bunch of zombies were there in the woods. Zombies are dumb ... they're going to follow things. Stop bitching. 2. Lori getting mad at Rick. Granted, this made me yell at my TV "Are you fucking kidding me?" Lori practically tells Rick to kill Shane, and then gets mad when he does it? But consider this: women are like that. That's actually pretty true to reality. Women think they want something, and then when it actually happens, they decide they didn't after all. Fact: this is why 94% of rapes occur. 3. Carol saying Rick isn't safe. Legit gripe here. Just felt like a character doing something because the story called for it. 4. Suddenly everyone is Annie Oakley. This was by far the worst thing in the episode. I laughed incredibly hard. These people wouldn't have perfect aim standing still, much less in a moving car. So 2 are legit complaints, 2 aren't. Please reduce your bitching by 50% accordingly.

thank you for actually putting some actual thought into your arguments. I agree with you, a lot of women are very emotional creatures and you never really know how they will react in any given situation. I had a bigger problem with Hershel's magical shotgun than with the fact that they were all hitting head shots, but it is not a deal breaker, just a minor annoyance. I find it very funny how people have a problem with the timing of the arrival of the zombie horde. If we are willing to suspend disbelief and accept that in their world zombies are real, why can't we accept that by pure chance they got there just in time for when Carl shot zombie Shane? Books and movies are full of moments where things happen just by chance. The arrival of Aragorn with the dead army during the batter of Pelenor fields. How come he got there in the nick of time, why not earlier or too late? How about Han Solo coming back just in time to shoot Darth Vader out of the way so Luke could take a shot at the Death Star?

But not quick, with a bullet. She needs to be ripped apart like Savini in the original (and "only" in this dojo) "Dawn of the Dead". Personally, I'd like her to give birth to a zombie baby, who bites her right on the pussy on his way out, so that Rick (or hell, Carl, whatever) has to put her down while she bitches and rants and blames Rick for her chomped pussy, the lack of ice cream in general, and the fact that winter is "cold". So he has to put her down. Like Old Yeller. Only with a chomped pussy... Sorry...went off on a revery there...a wishful flight of fancy...but sadly, they would never do anything that cool...sigh. :(

No, it's not simply snobby, it's an assertion supported by several bits of data. All you've done is say I'm a hipster and snobby, which does absolutely nothing to actually address what I said. Again...a lack of critical thinking. If you could mount a coherent counterargument listing brief bullet points where the majority evince wisdom, logic and intelligence, I'd have more respect for your attempt at a rebuttal. But really, all you've done is make my point for me by replying with an ad hominem attack rather than an intelligent argument. Look up "ad hominem". You'll see that I'm right.

Well there are shades of that there too. After killing Shane, instead of feeling responsible in a guilty way for the lives of the group, he feels responsible in an alpha male way. by LabattsBleu

unfortunately, the writers are a bit lazy; it wasn't necessary for Glen to be pulling headshots - a line by Rick simply saying to hit their legs so they'd be reduced to crawling would have been enough to slow them down so they aren't a treat...esp with a shotgun. don't dispute that Lori's reaction was totally puzzling, since she's the one that called Shane dangerous in the first place and it was clearly established that he executed Randall. "herds" of zombies were establish way back at the beginning of season two, so I don't think its as incredible a leap as people are complaining about. Classic flock dynamics about moving. complaining about logic in a tv show about zombies seems to be an oxymoron anyways.

Yup...this poor fool tries to "put me in my place" for being all "uppity and book-learny" by sneering at Power Point presentations, index cards, visual aides (sic). Now, I have presented none of these things myself, so obviously none of that would be implied in the slightest. It was just sarcasm, the last refuge of someone who is intellectually outgunned...if you can't mount a coherent argument, why all you need to do is show disdain for coherent arguments. Then your inadequacy won't hurt quite so much. Well thephantomcatlives, you've just been handed your ass. You're pathetic...or, to put it in terms you can understand, "I thank ahm better'n yew". well, where else would you go? Really...you would naturally go somewhere that the others would know of. Backtracking to the highway where the season began hardly seems to be a stretch, considering the alternative to roaming around the woods. i'll bet 75% of the audience thought "go back the highway" while they were watching the show and the group was scattered.

What I love most about the show is its shitty "fans"

    by JacksParasites

Every weak, I hear people who claim to be fans of the show bitch and moan about how much they want the show to be like Resident Evil, when I doubt you'll find one of them who will praise that shitty franchise. But again and again, you hear about how much better this DRAMA would be if it had less drama and was just characters killin' zombies all the time. Is that REALLY what people want for this show? That it just be mindless zombie killing without all that pesky drama. First it was Sophia, a storyline that lasted a whole six episodes before a super-satisfying pay-off. Remember when tv shows regularly dragged out a storyline for 22 episodes? Oh, but how dare they expect modern audiences to wait a whole six episodes to resolve a plotline without issuing Ritalin?! Listen, if you're sticking with the show because you're hoping it's going to suddenly stop having drama and just turn into a Resident Evil movie, you should just give up now. It's never going to be what you want it to be. So just go rent your mindless Resident Evil flicks and masturbate to them to your heart's content.

Even when you've reviewed the tape and proven him wrong, he still mindlessly attacks. You're right and he's clearly wrong, but he will never admit it because he lacks the ability for rational argument, or even cognition in general. He is, to use his own limited vocabulary, "a dumbass". Isn't it hilarious how he makes my point for me about "the majority"? And it's ironic...he seeks refuge for his unreasoned opinions by saying the herd agrees with him (flocking behavior), his thinking (perhaps his body as well, though we can't see) lurches around, he's mindlessly vicious and eager to walk straight into a loaded gun (ie my wit)...y'know what? I think he really is a zombie. Hey phancat: "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr".

Strong finale... but Lori's a psycho bitch

    by Mattman

Remember when she was subtly trying to get Rick to kill Shane a couple of episodes again? Planting seeds in his mind? Now he does it and she's pissed? Fuck her.

  • and then being so wrong? A) I've never even heard of a horse without mane, and it doesn't matter if they do or not because the horse in question has hair. B) If such a thing existed, why would they use such a rare horse for the filming of the first episode. Again, it doesn't matter because the horse has mane. C) A brief Google image search pulls up many images with the horse having mane, and rewatching the first episode confirms this. D) So many images of the horse with mane are available, but redwhitenegro chose to post the one where it isn't easily seen. The both of you are simply trolls too proud to admit you're wrong, and I proved it with bullet points! Also, nitpicking about spelling? You're just proving my snobby point. Bazinga!

It is true that the majority isn't always wrong, and I apologize if my post implied that. What I meant is that stating that an assertion is valid or true because the majority believe it to be so is a hollow argument. The majority are frequently wrong. (I personally think they're also frequently idiots, but that's just my own opinion/prejudice...just like I thought the Academy Award going to "Ghandi" instead of "E.T." was complete bullshit...I can't prove it factually, but damn if I don't think it's so.) :)

    thephantomcatlives...nice try...

    by ElPalabraUltimo

...but you're making out that I made an argument that I never made. Point of absolute fact: I never once mentioned a mane. You're debating me over something I never said! LOL! You're continuing your argument (or arguement) with redwhitenegro (no and in it...sorry I added "and" to your name man) in your argument with me, but I never even talked about a horse or a mane! The simple fact of the matter is, when I watched the episode I saw that it was a horse, so this whole "without looking it up yourself" thing is just nuts. It's Atlanta, it's that scene with the horse, and besides, how do you KNOW I didn't "look it up"? What're you, Santa Claus? Know if I've been sleeping, know if I'm awake? Do you realize how much craziness and wild flailing swinging is in just the first three lines of your post? Then dude, you go on rebutting a point about a "rare horse"...that I NEVER MADE! HAHAHAHA! Wow...you could also launch a rebuttal at me about the Sun going around the Earth, and homosexuality being a side effect of eating green cheese, as those are also points that I never made. By that sterling standard of logic, you SO win! Bazinga (or whatever fucktarded thing you keep typing in, ha, triumph)...snicker

    It's a dog.

    by Mike bevis

There are four Zombies kneeling to eat it. It is positively smaller than a horse. You can clearly see the dog's tail. The ears like they are docked, and that makes sense since the dog looks sort of like a pitbull. (thick neck and broad skull) There is no mane. Where there should be a mane, is fresh blood. If the Zombies were kneeling to eat the horse, then they wouldn't need to hunch over as they are doing when eating. The color is not the same as Rick's horse. Here's an admittedly crappy screenshot I made. http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/a45e/vu8cah76i7qqe524g.jpg

    More BS

    by Bedhead7

Thank god Shane is dead but now Rick is acting like him? Lori was the one to wake Rick up to how dangerous he was, then gets all PMS faced about Rick killing him. The writers are not aware of the dialogue that precedes each episode. Its like each episode is standalone. Characters act out whatever drama the writers need for each scene. They have little internal consistancy. They have not written a decent character arc that doesn't invole that character dying. Except possibly Hershel. The second half of S2 was an overall improvemet, but still not near Breaking Bad or Game of thrones. Those shows do not contradict themselves. They build and build. Characters get more interesting each episode. The stakes keep getting raised. TWD just stagnates. Blah.

The gist of it was, your quote (in my post before this) was attempting to dismiss all the points the "haters" are making by saying most people disagree with them. That's an invalid argument...facts stand alone, and can't be changed by a vote. Whether or not these shows are badly written can be debated, but how many people fall on one side or the other doesn't enter into it. At least this episode wasn't flat out boring.

    by duluoztripping

The whole season was pretty bad, the show tries to fall back upon the same conceits as Lost did, oh, we're just setting up for the "next" season, (they even rehash some of the exact same themes and conversations as that show) but there's no real mystery that needs to be revealed... they could have dealt with all their bullshit in half the time. Wow, big reveal ... Big deal, dead people who don't get bit turn into zombies, who the fuck cares? What does that even matter? The writing is laughable. There's no emotional payoff with these characters anyway since decisions they make constantly reverse course without any logical development. Can't wait till next season when Daryl gets with Michonne and the Governor has Merle kille him, probably because he hates seeing him with a black woman or something. Too bad Glen couldn't have screamed "Get off the farm" a few episodes back. Also pretty sure the helicopter and zombies this episode were just a flashback to the first episode to show when they started walking towards the farm. Why doesn't anyone on the show have a map?

  • March 19, 2012 2:12 AM CST

Did I miss comments regarding the first ten minutes of WD?

    by nomihs

Everyone has touched on other areas of the finale of The Walking Dead, but the show really took a shit for me in the first ten minutes when the zombie herd was actually on the farm. So many things, so I'll just start: I get the retreat into the barn, then burning it down, but when the RV comes up to rescue them, why did it stop? Just keep going with Rick and son on top. That kid was stupid and deserved his fate. And why did nobody see the rescue attempt from the house, which was in plain view, from Herchel's perspective? While I'm talking about it, why did ANY vehicle stop, other than to let someone in/out? Run the fuckers over T-Dog! People act like hitting a few zombies is akin to hitting a brick wall. Put your foot on the gas and go! You may not kill 'em all, but you will slow them down long enough to regroup and get the hell outta dodge. If there were zombies behind Herchel, grabbing his wife, why didn't they get him too before Rick and son got there? Herchel's wife also seemed to completely miss seeing the group of zombies a foot to her right. Gotta be quicker than that lady. There might be a few more gripes, but for me that set the tone for the rest of the episode. Headshots from cars? I agree. The total lack of consistent, well written character and development hangs around this show's neck. Darryl is the only one I find compelling. The actress playing Lori is great at making people hate her. Too bad it's for the wrong reasons.

  • But really wasn't a way for him to know Rick and Carl were on the RV will all the chaos. For him to drive off without knowing there were secure would've meant killing them and defeat the purpose of his heroic effort. Also, Jimmy did nothing all season to prove he fit to survive a full scale zombie attack. Partly cause he wasn't written that way, but who says everyone is meant to survive? Even Carol isn't fit to survive. She's wisely alligned herslef with Darrel and because of that she's alive. Watch how her character has been drawn to him. She's trying to form some sort of bond with him ever since he gave her the Cheroke rose. I believe cause she knows it's her best chance for survival.

    lori and the deaths

    by Bouncy X

seems many are confused or annoyed by her reaction to rich's speech. i'm betting the first part is because she never thought he'd actually go through with it but you'll notice she doesnt really go down against him until he mentions carl gave shane the killshot. so she's likely just really upset and freaked that her little kid shot and killed someone and rick let him. of course all he had to say is that carl saved his life since thats what happened. and as for the deaths, color me disappointed. all this talk of "not everyone will make it out of the season finale" and of course, as predicted, they only killed some farm folk and not even any of the main ones. now ok they killed dale and shane so the main group had a few major deaths rather recently, but if they had to kill the farm folk...it shoulda been herschel and/or his daugther thats with glen. those deaths might have had an impact but killing one who barely had dialogue and another i dont recall ever saying more than 4 words if that...not as effective.

  • March 19, 2012 7:22 AM CST

    I'm surprised

    by Truxton Spangler

nobody has mentioned the other bit of casting fodder for S3...involves Michael Rooker. As for the finale, the promised deaths were inconsequential. I was hoping for someone like Carol or T-Dog, but it seems the writers kept them around all this time to finally give them some lines. And I like where they're going with Rick. If, as they promise, Carl is being groomed to be a badass, then make it happen, and if it makes Lori even madder (if that is possible), and expendable, all the better. The funniest bit of the night was AMC trying to get the TWD audience to tune in for Mad Men. If a certain percentage of the audience's distaste for "people talking" is true, MM is certainly not the show for them, though it would expose them to an entirely different caliber of writing skill. Two seasons down, TWD remains an entertaining, if flawed, show.

The EP and the creator explained Lori's reaction on Talking Dead

    by impossibledreamers

They said it was more Lori realizing that she was responsible for putting Shane and Rick at odds.

  • March 19, 2012 7:53 AM CST

    Rick's justification

    by seanny_d

Honestly, I think the group would have responded a little better had Rick phrased the death of Shane a little better. Say "Shane was about to kill me and I defended myself." Unfortunately, he just talked about how everyone saw how crazy he was and how he had to go before saying "Yeah, he was also planning to kill me." That should have been your leading argument as to why it had to be done.

It's also crazy to think of how this show has so many really cool moments and so many maddening character interactions. I prefer excellent character drama over zombies. I'm not even much of a zombie fan at all. But the way these characters interact with each other is so poorly handled most of the time. There's so much to like here, and if they can just map out proper character arcs for everyone and give them more of an internal logic (unless that internal logic is to have them act illogically in which case they're right on track), then this show could be incredible all of the time.

What is also interesting is the introduction of Michonne, who is the first "comic book-y" character on this show. I'm very curious about seeing what sort of turn the show takes as a result of this. I'm looking forward to the third season, though. Optimistic that they'll hammer down the characters a little more.

I thought they got it pretty well right, especially when it's coming on the heels of two major characters being killed off. Lets just hope that they aren't scared to keep doing this as it fits the story. Also, the zombies at the farm didn't just magically appear. They established that a swarm was already on the march, but not in the direction of the farm, just near by. The gun shot got their attention and changed the direction of the swarm. Pretty simple stuff really. Even the ones that didn't hear the shot or didn't notice it, notice all these other zombies shambling in that direction and they follow along.

Skeet shooting and target shooting with a buddy of mine at his hunting club's cabin. Never fired a shotgun in my life and I hit roughly 90% of my targets in skeet shooting, and that was a good 60-70 feet away and moving in the air. So yea...8, 10, 12 feet away and barely moving? I Can't see that as being all that difficult. I shot my buddy's .44 Magnum (damn what a kick) and grazed the side of a can and tore it to pieces. So you don't even have to be dead on accurate with some weapons.

  • March 19, 2012 10:57 AM CST

    I didn't think it was a horse

    by Eyegore

I think all the people insisting it was a horse are saying that because of the big spoiler that was posted here a week ago. I read the first lines of that, up to the horse part, then stopped reading because I didn't want to be spoiled, but I was interesting in knowing if the spoiler was true. The spoiler post that intense_butsecks has been obnoxiously posting in every AICN thread all week in a fit of attention whoring, said the opening shot was a group of zombies in Atlanta feasting on Rick's dead horse, then they see a helicopter fly over and wander off in that direction. I stopped reading there, because that's all I needed to to be able to judge if someone with inside info was really spilling the beans, like it turned out with the Sophia in the barn spoiler. A lot of people must had read that spoiler to all be jumping to the conclusion that the zombies were eating a horse. That thought was implanted, like hypnosis, and so they see a dead horse, when most people see a dead dog. Who do you trust, some internet spoiler, or your lying eyes?

  • March 19, 2012 11:12 AM CST

    @natalieportman

    by angry kitty

That was a great post. I agree shooting at slow moving targets from a relatively short distance (along with the presumption that there was target shooting training ongoing for potentially WEEKS at the farm), makes the accuracy of the shooters more reasonable to believe. The only issue I may see, is that the cars were moving- and driven in some cases by highly emotional, unpredictable drivers (eg Maggie). In this case it would be fair to propose a few misses when considering the movements of the car and say, the recoil of Glenn's shotgun.

    Skeet shooting? What a dipshit

    by Liberal_Warrior

In skeet, you are not aiming at the target, you are aiming in front of it and the target flies into the shot. Yes that makes it a helluva lot easier than shooting at an area the size of a human skull.

  • March 19, 2012 11:25 AM CST

    Dipshit? Really?

    by Eyegore

lib_warrior thinks he's making a great point (haha nailed it!) but it seems the opposite to me. Aiming ahead of a moving target is a lot more difficult than shooting directly at a near stationary head, and besides, those skeet targets are both smaller than a head, and much MUCH farther away. It's funny seeing people bend over backwards to make a stupid point. All that said, I thought the rate of successful headshots from a moving vehicle was a bit high, but I also noticed a few misses mixed in. Not every shot was perfect, just most of them. Whatever, it was great entertainment.

While I commend you on your ability to masturbate to either an average of five zombies per episode, people talking inside of a farmhouse for forty minutes or Norman Reedus, I can pretty much promise you that the LAST thing you'll actually ever want is for "the haters to go away and watch something else". Unless you're lousy at math, the "haters" probably make up a good half of TWD's viewership, if not substantially more (despite how you feel about the show, a quick search on Google or the IMDb will educate you on exactly how many of these "haters" exist), and I promise you, the moment the ratings drop from their current "golden goose" status, the plug will get pulled and you can instead bitch about everybody "hating" on the "Justified" spin-off or hillbilly reality show that's sure to replace it.

Lol...that was good....did you make that up all by yourself you clever lil boy? You know how to rhyme....that's so cute.

  • The only HEAD SHOTS, I saw, was Rick. Mind you, Rick is a highly trained police officer who was shooting zombies less then ten feet away. Everyone else, minus Andrea and Daryl, were shooting shotguns. Herschel, nor Glenn, got ONE headshot, they were aiming for the bodies. Andrea, WE HAVE SEEN HER TRAIN OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. So, we have to give the show that, plus again, we are talking A SLOW MOVING TARGET ONLY A COUPLE FEET AWAY. Daryl is a badass good'ole boy... so, hunting is all he knows. Another given. You know, I enjoy the show... it's not perfect... but the reason I tune in, is because the positives outweigh the negatives. I just question the people on here, who seem to HATE the show, yet can't tune into anything else on Sunday Nights. Why not watch, Dancing With the Stars... or Nancy Grace... seriously, is your life that empty that all you do is watch shit you hate... just so you can comment on it online? Or, worse yet... maybe you hate EVERYTHING on TV... because being the fanboy you are... you OBVIOUSLY would be better at writting a TV Show (sarcasm).

Masturbate to five Zombies per episode? That's a good one. See the thing is, it doesn't have to be wall to wall zombies for an hour (to which the haters would complain that there's too much zombies and not enough story) for me to enjoy the show. I see the the show as a drama centered around the characters and how they interact and deal with the crisis at hand. Do i wish some episodes had more zombies? Sure, who wouldn't. But it doesn't have to be like that all the time. Do you think Jaws (don't start yelling, I am not saying Jaws is comparable to TWD) would have been a better movie if there were more awesome shark attacks and shark related kills? I'm sorry you don't enjoy the show, but seriously, I don't think the "haters" are gonna be going anywhere anytime soon, cause then they won't have anything to come here and bitch, whine and complain about. So I say keep watching, and help keep the show on for longer than you think it deserves to be.

As someone who read the comics(up to that point) 2 years ago, I've always been a little disappointed in the molasses pacing of the show. The Hershel farm stuff was fairly mundane in the comics, and it had started to wear out its welcome for me on the show, too. But, DAMN, what a way to suck me back in. You foreshadow 3 of my all-time favorite elements from the comics... the Ricktatorship. The prison. And fucking MICHONNE! Well played, Kirkman. I geeked out. Hard. Now we just need the Governor, and this show has a shot at being one of my all-time faves.

    Walking Dead Finale

    by GhostofLesterBangs

Why did the group get so mad that Rick didn't tell them about becoming a zombie when you die? Ok so you have to watch your back a little more but their reaction was so out of whack. How many people around them are dying of non-zombie related attacks for it really to matter? And I agree with what somebody else said, they should've been mowing down walkers like my ZombieHighway iphone app/game. Plus, they would've killed that walker quietly at the freeway when it was Hershel, Rick and the kid lest the walker return (just like it did). There were so many ancillary characters killed that I just didn't give two shits about that it was more like, wait, who was that again? How the hell did everyone reconvene at the exact same time on the freeway? And finally, Rick needs to do something else besides makin the motion of violently thrusting his hand towards the ground (sometimes while holding a gun) every time he makes emphasis to his words in his sentences, I'm sick of watching him do it. Meh. Hopefully next scene will bring less debating and whining in the group. More action less Dr. Phil. When does Breaking Bad start back up?

shotgun headshots: if you slow down the video

    by Jason

You can clearly see quite a few if not every one of the shots made by shotguns were headshots and not scatter gun type headshots, but bullet to the brain looking headshots. I found this kind of silly, but c'mon, it's a show about zombies and that hardly ruins it. If you're going to bitch about that, bitch about how Andrea caves in a zombies skull with a pistol like it was a hollow chocolate rabbit on easter.

where to begin with this episode!

    by rakesh patel

Maybe if they had telegraphed the herd in the woods a bit better, it would have been a bit more realistic, instead of them tracking the group down to the farm without any other noises distracting them. That helicopter though, it’s definitely got me interested, I’m hoping that breadcrumb leads to somewhere perhaps an army base other there. let's recap the wtf moments in this episode

    The Good

Daryl on his bike driving through zombies. Andrea redeems herself, fighting the zombie hordes in the woods and not giving up. her character is going through a lot of ups and downs. ( mainly due to the writing) i don’t know. this ep, she seemed less grating.

    The Bad

Flaming Zombies ( I’m sure that’s a cocktail)not sure why rick set the barn on fire ( to draw them in? on what basis did he make this hypothesis?, run to the house fella and get the fuck out!) If dead aint gonna kill them, fire surely aint. not sure I’d be rather fighting a flaming zombie then an ordinary one.

Hershel last stand. despite EVERYTHING that’s happened to him over the course of the season, he still thinks its better to fight, and not look after his family. that’s it man, keep firing away, while zombies eat your kids. cry about it later maybe.

Using cars as horses to round up the herd. I’m not sure what was trying to be accomplished here. I’m not familiar with firearms but id guess its easier to hit a moving target if your stationary rather then driving back and forth. who’s brilliant idea was it to use the RV as an instrument to move quickly in and out? Jimmy. well thats darwin awards in action i guess.

Patricia killed by a zombie that snuck up on her out of shot. well not snuck up, it must have been right next to her, in fact despite know what zombies do, she carried on running into his personal space. if only she had veered left instead of right

    carol surviving, dammit Daryl!

night turns into day into night faster then you can say x-men 3 the last stand.

t-dog speaks, he’s still harbouring wishes to abandon the group. if he actually wanted to leave why didn’t he? why not leave lori on the road if she want s to get off. either she makes it or she doesn’t, none of the others will know. t-dog, you could have been outta there sipping margaritas on the beach

Car without petrol yeah its a real problem to fit 7 people in the car in a life or death situation - lets camp out in a undefendable open area instead!

still not sure why the fuck they haven’t taken better cars and prepped, syphoned fuel from other cars fuckers have an escape route meet up point! ) seriously the amount of times the Hawaii 5-0 team use live drive is embarrassing. if they can whore themselves for that. think how much extra cash could be injected into the show by getting a car manufacturer to sponsor the show)

Lori’s repulsion at rick at shanes murder - c’mon bitch you caused the damm thing!,

Carols bitching at Shane.. he can’t be trusted...are you fucking outta your mind woman?!?!

carl is going to have to die

    by rakesh patel

carl is going to have to die, TWD writers(!) will soon face the dilemma that the lost writers faced with walt. the kids is growing up and you wont be able to show elapsed time as weeks and months if carl is a teenager middle of season 3. But it's all good. i actually think it will be the making of rick, allow the tv to stand out on its own from the comics and resonate more with the audience when rick begins his decent into madness. The loss of carl will have more of an emotional impact. i wasn’t too upset about sophie, because no one knew her. and the fact that rick put down a kid? well he did that in the opening 5 minutes of the pilot. plus it will be easier to film lori and baby ( easily replaceable, every couple of months) then teenager carl. rick will go absolutely nuts, he needs to have the pressure of all of this build up on top of him until he cracks. I’ve enjoyed Lincoln's work since this life and teachers, he's got it in him to pull this off ..just stop waving that gun around. i rewatched the first season again the other day. funny to see how daryl was the only person willing to off jim because he was bitten before he actually died and everyone pulling him back. Didn't take them long to change completely, now they're abandoning people left right and centre, The new Paradigm shift, survival of the fittest works in this new world. re:hershel heart attack. has to happen in a locked cell with someone. has to!

These Walking Dead talkbacks are so funny...

    by Tim

first the haters show up in droves, and I guess if I had to pick a side, I'd be on theirs, even though I do watch the show and enjoy it. After they have their say for about 30 posts, the defenders come in and call them whiny and praise the show for a few posts, and then the back and forth starts.

  • I mean, it didn't mean anything to me, except I know from these talkbacks and people who have read the comics that some crazy shit goes down there eventually. I liked the finale, especially the chaotic opening 10-15 minutes. When they all split up I said, damn, this is interesting. Then they all got back together immediately, and I sighed. Lori has established herself as the most intolerable character. My favorite ep of the season I believe. I hope third season is more consistent.

TWD: The gift that keeps on giving

    by E. D.

Oh, where to start this time ... Wow, these walkers sure have a keen sense of directionality. They even press against a fence for no apparent reason but wanting to go "that way". Those must have been the really A.D.D. walkers in Season 1 that didn't pay attention to rifle shots a few seconds after they dissipated, like the ones shuffling directly outside the black man's house while he fired on a few of them in the pilot EP. I guess their homing beacons don't activate for a gun fired a mere 50 feet away, it has to be miles away so they can use their intelligence to extrapolate where the shot came. I bet these walkers do the 6-star Sudoko's. Jimmy must have had really high blood pressure, for those silly splats of blood to shoot from the floor 6-8 feet away where he was being eaten on the floor at the door, and onto the upper windshield. More tight shots of walker stealth and sticking your arm out to it, instead of any plausible wider shot showing why someone, despite not being stupid, still gets caught and eaten. Scary is when people do smart things and still get eaten; funny is when people do stupid things and get eaten. Burning walkers with fire retardant clothing showing (yes, it was obvious). Nice effort on the barn though, it looked great burning. Glenn's GI Joe impersonation. Tell you what, everyone roll down the passenger window in your SUV and sit on the sill. Now hold a shotgun with both hands. Now get a friend to drive you around slowly on a level street and try not to fall out. Now move to a dirt road and turn in circles. Now try to hit the broad side of yon burning barn without falling out. Now try to hit that lil walker head that a professional assassin or trained soldier couldn't hit under those circumstances. Oh, and remind me again what hitting a walker anywhere but squarely in the brain will do to it's "combat effectiveness"? Other than waste your ammo and getaway time. Herschel's BFG version of a single shot pump action shotgun that apparently takes a lot more than the 8-9 rounds max any known shotgun has. The general inability for these idiots to just GET IN THE GODDAMN CARS AND DRIVE AWAY. Did they really have to first fight them for 15 minutes, then say "Gee there's a lot of them still coming, let's go now". Oh right, they first had to get a couple people eaten. It's right there in the plot, page 5. If you really want the farm back (yes please, another fucking season on it please), just come back in the daylight and kill them. You know, daylight, where you could see better and all. Perfect timing, for Lori and T-Dawg and Suicide Barbie to go the wrong way, argue, and turn around and still be right with the chopper and SUV. I'm sure those 2 vehicles just waited patiently outside the farm for them to come along before heading to the highway. Oh highway? Must be the new black for meeting places. They never tell us anything. And let's not bother that poor preppy walker, it's not like any of them every come back to "bite" us later right? Stealthy and all that. Oh wait, there he is again, Daryl nail him. You know, buildings are overrated for safety; broken walls with some gaps to see fire through them are better. Let's not bother with a fire pit with rocks piled high enough to hide the fire from all directions - you know, like we religiously did in Season 1. Also, let's stand in the open road then in an open camp area overnight. 2,350 walkers just attacked the farm, but we're sure there aren't another 5,000 in this neck o' da woods, amiright? Rules are meant to be broken, right? We broke our rules not to go anywhere alone, not to fire guns for any reason, and to constantly watch for the slow-moving turds to keep them away from us (edit: we were not yet aware of walker stealth technology). It's not like it's our fault or anything that every major plot point in this Season is directly due to our stupidity. Right? RIGHT? Someday the monkey's writing this gibberish are going to accidentally write an episode that makes sense. Statistically, it can happen.

I know the amazingly unreal headshots have been covered

    by SID 8.0

But the one thta really stood out for me was Andrea shooting one while turning away from it. WTF was that? No look headshots are normal now? Daryl and Herschel at least had some quasi-realism to it. They stayed stationary and lined up their shots. Slow moving targets walking right at you within 15 feet are pretty easy for experienced shooter. But the rest, running and hanging out the window of a moving vehicle come on. Ah well, Rick needs to slap Laurie Hard. Chris Hardwick called it the begining of the Ricktatorship Hah! Still besides some of the strange choices of the writers I'll be watching next season. Want to see what happens in the prison, and as my friend called her "The Assasin's Creed chick" has got my interest. By the way for me that best zombie fighting gear would be a mediveval suit of armor with sword and a high capacity assault rifle. Be killin' all day.

TWD has its flaws no doubt

    by Truxton Spangler

but are people really taking such great pains to dissect the marksmanship...on a zombie show? What next? The efficiency of Superman's flight paths? Or the tensile properties of Spiderman's webs, and how that affects his trajectories?

  • I think having Tyresse just be at the prison and be Rick's BFF is a bit unlikely, so that'll be Daryl. And then he gets to do all the same stuff Tyresse did, and maybe meet the same fate. People will freak out. It'll be amazing.

Nothing will make the troll haters happy...secretly they wank off to the show anyway. Then they come on here and bash it...i love seeing that as it is 100 percent confirmation to me that they love watching the show. Yes dumb writing, not enough zombies, no Michone, never leaving the farm, where is the prison. Now it is too many headshots lololololololol

    by rakesh patel

amazing. i guess a load of viewers tuned in to see zombie mayhem. If they can drop the quality, cut the budget and still maintain high figures, they've got no reason to change their winning formula. Kirkman and Mazzara must be ecstatic

    I enjoyed this finale

    by lv_426

I think the helicopter explanation as to why there were zombies that formed a big herd that ended up at the farm was unnecessary. It is a natural assumption tp figure that eventually a herd could come through there. They already had a few getting stuck in the swamp, then several more as the swamp dried up. That's why they ended up finging little packs of zombies eating Hershel's cows. I think it might have been better not to waste the screen time and money explaining how a zombie herd forms. For all we know, it could have just as easily been that other group that Randall came from. Maybe they got turned and just started walking, then heard the gunshots. Michonne's reveal was cool, but the two zombies on a chain were a bit much. I think that might not work very well for live action, while in the comic it does. The image of the silent hooded Michonne, sword in hand and fa e obscured, just that alone would have been more potent. The two pet zombies are just a bit too silly. Lori continues to be one of my least favorite characters on television of all time. Derp

  • Then she acts like Rick did something wrong when he was forced to kill Shane. What a bitch. I wonder if the actress that plays Lori is pissed at the writers for making her so unlikeable? It isn't even that she is unlikeable, but just a pointless character at this point. Unlikeable characters can at least have some reason for being there, to help add fuel to the narrative or shake things up. A character like Tom Zarek in Battlestar Galactica for instance, he at least is a watchable and shakes things up for the main cast.

  • I'm getting a bit of a New Caprica vibe from recent developments of TWD.

    oh Lori

    by judge dredds fresh undies

Glad to see I'm not alone in desperatly wanting to see that worthless bitch die. I utterly despise her, and if thats what they intended it would be the most effective writing of the entire series by a longshot. Carol can fucking bite it too, shame she didnt get got in the finale.

    Walking Dead

    by MandrakeRoot

It's not really a good show by many standards, but it can be fun and entertaining to watch. The shows big problem is it constantly flips back and forth between badass, compelling television, to an infuriating mellow-drama with some absolutely insufferable characters. Overall though I have no problem with admitting it's generally enjoyable enough to watch each Sunday. What's obnoxious is how people get on the web to bitch about and moan about how horrible the show is, yet they continue to tune in week after week.

    Why drive around while shooting?

    by Prem1x

Only watched this once, but weren't most of the zombies on another size of a fence while the people decided it was a good idea to drive back and forth while shooting with each shot being an amazing headshot. It seems much more logical to shoot while stationary, then move the vehicle to reposition when threatened. I just didn't grasp that.

  • Culdn't someone have figured out ten minutes before wasting all that ammo that it was pointless? Save your ammo for when your life is in immediate danger while escaping. Or are they supposed to go the prison with no ammo as part of the plot?

    by Royston Lodge

The Rebel Alliance woulda been fucked!

  • If I hadn't seen Season 1, this might be simple popcorn fun like a SyFy series. I'd still notice the stupid ass things they do and recognize the bad writing points, and they would be just as 'meh' to me as most other shows on TV feel. No harm, no foul, no big deal in general. But I did see Season 1. I tuned into the pilot not expecting too much, although the teaser ads did make it look gritty and dark. And I was blown away by the quality of the show and its style. I don't read the comic, and I don't care whether it matches this or that at all. It was independently, on its own legs a great show. Period. The series had real promise, in a genre that routinely gets a laugh track from most people due to how it is usually treated and shot. It was a great take on a realistic survival drama set in a zombie apocalypse, just as BSG was a realistic survival drama set in a space apocalypse. Now that is all squandered, and people like myself aren't happy it happened, especially since it was no accident and was directly caused by AMC's decisions to cut the budget of the most-watched basic cable series ever (despite its genre), and fire the one person who made it what it was. It should be obvious to all, even fanboys who won't admit it, that Darabont's influence and vision, and the writing and cinematography style he surrounded himself with, were why it was so good. So, the reason we bitch is simple: we know how good it was, we were there. Now it isn't and unless people speak out about it, they will just continue to think they can fuck up a show like this with impunity, and instead of raising the bar they just lower your eyes. Don't kid yourself; AMC knows the show is bad artistically, but they don't care as long as they can profit.

    More WD Issues...

    by DrEdwardMorbius

OK, last week I was chastized for pointing out the issue with physics I have that pulls me out of the story of WD, namely that all of a sudden, a pocket knife can go through bone (human skull) so easily. Now, I'd like to pick just one thing character/writing wise from this one to harp on about: Lori. Last week, she was all whispering in Rick's ear, being the devil on his shoulder, about how Shane had to go. Practically told him to go kill him there and then, while he looked onward, slightly psychotic, with his head turned sideways the way he does about 20 times per show. Now, she finds out he DID kill Shane (in total self-defense), and she freaks out and doesn't want him to even touch her? Whiskey...Tango...Foxtrot... Hey, Jim. Go eat that apple. Jim eats apple. Hey Jim, why the frak did you do that? Don't even talk to me now you ate that apple. See, in any other context, it is way past nuts and makes zero sense. I still want to like the show, I'm still tryin', it is still failing me... I won't even mention how some of the best marksmen in the US on the show Top Shot can't manage to make that many hits from a moving vehicle, let alone ALL headshots...I won't even go there...

Maybe zombie skulls are weakened by the disease.

    by Royston Lodge

I agree that it would be better if the show was more realistic rather than simply adhering to old zombie movie conventions, but I'll put up with it as long as I find the show entertaining.

dredwardmorbius RE: shooting - attempt #2

    by itrainmonkeys

So apparently if you put quotes it only will post what you quote and not your whole post. Fantastic. Here's a condensed version of what I just wrote: The people shooting miss more than they hit and the guys with the most headshots (Daryl, Herschel, Rick) all have believable reasons why they are hitting so many. Daryl and Herschel from standing positions and are also handy with guns before the apocalypse happened. Rick is a trained shot and hits zombies right in front of him. Glen misses more than he hits and so does Andrea (while driving anyway...when walking she's a bit better but that makes sense since they are right in front of her). Basically, if you break down the actual scene you'll notice they shoot a lot more than they kill and it isn't "all headshots". While it's a bit unrealistic (but zombie apocalypse isn't??) I felt like the way you people complain about it makes it seem like every time they shot there was a kill but that's definitely not the case. The people driving miss a bunch and talk about wasting ammo. I thought it was handled pretty well. Here's a summary of it that I wrote on another board: Daryl rides up first and shoots a few that are pretty close by. He's in a calm standing position and I'm sure he's shot a gun a while before so I don't mind that he hits at least two walkers with four shots. The first shot comes but no zombie goes down. Then he hits two zombies in a row with headshots, and he shoots the gun again but the camera cuts so there's no way of knowing if he hit or didn't hit a third. Then Andrea is shooting from the front of the blue truck. She's got a handgun and gets seven shots off but we only see two walkers get hit and go down. I don't think that makes her a master marksman. Not too over the top. Next up is Glen and Maggie. Glens got a shotgun. He gets off one shot but nothing is shown to be hit. He takes a second and hits a zombie in the face. The third shotgun blast he gets off hits a walker in the shoulder and the fourth doesn't hit any walker. So that's not exactly amazing shots either. Andrea takes two more shots after Glen but it's not clear if she even hits anything. Then a zombie gets hit by the blue truck T-Dog/Andrea are in. Glen and Maggie turn the car around and Glen takes two shots, one of them definitely hits while the other isn't on camera (but we can't assume that it's a zombie kill). There's a wide shot showing the barn on fire and we hear gunshots but don't see any zombies going down. Doesn't mean they are great shots....just means they are shooting a lot. Jimmy is hanging out of the RV drivers window and shoots two walkers who are very close by but he hits them really well so that's a bit unbelievable (wasn't he one of the guys who wanted to learn how to shoot but wasn't allowed at first? can't keep track). Jimmy shoots more but we don't see zombies hit. Cuts to Darryl again and he pulls over to shoot. He takes four shots and hits two zombies before pulling away to tell Jimmy to pull the RV around. While Rick and Carl are climbing ontop of the RV there's one ridiculous shot that has a zombie hit by the blue truck from FAR away that I doubt Andrea could hit. There were other shots around it (meaning not everyone was a hit) but that still seems unbelivable. Rick gets a few head shots from the standing position after jumping off the roof but he's a cop and they were all close distance. I belive that. COMMERCIAL BREAK Back from Commercial and Glen shoots 6 shotgun shots but only hits one zombie. Andrea shoots about 8 shots and hits two zombies. It's at this time that she points out that there are too many of them and they'll run out of ammo before making a dent.

    Kill Lori and Karl

    by PlayerHater_of_the_year

I just refer to Lori as "The Cunt" becasue thats what she is. Useless, spiteful and makes you want to yell at the screen like Homer Simpson. If any body on the show needs to be ripped apart by zombies its her. And as for the the fucking kid. PLEASE kill this kid off. He's the poster child for the pro abortion lobby and needs to go. Other than those two the show was pretty good post hiatus.
