They don't have anyone that can do a funny Barrack or Michelle Obama and now SNL is missing out on making fun of Herman Cain. Can you imagine the fun David Chappelle would have with Herman Cain and Barack Obama?

They dabbled in it when Tina Fey was pushing Hillary as the Democrat nominee but once Obama got the nomination it was pretty much "hands off." Besides the obvious political leanings of most of the writers/cast no one wants to risk looking racist.

IMHO. I did, however, dig the Of Mice and Men ending to the skit. Actually, anybody remember about two years ago there was a Bobby Moynihan / James Franco Of Mice and Men skit? that was pretty gold. "I'm pretty sure that's a gun!"

Does Fred Armisen not do Obama? Did they not parody almost word for word the Obama/McCain debates? I don't understand what they guy up there wrote about not bringing up Obama once he got the Dem nom. Also Abby Elliot has got to be right pissed that Bayer is replacing Wiig as the female lead. All signs pointed to her when she first came on, plus she's prettier, and has a great body on her too. But, other than her Khloe impression she doesn't bring much.... Bigger question is who is going to replace Sudekiis as the male lead. Hader is there but he's more of the Dan Akroyd/Phil Hartman type. You know often the funniest guy but always behind Chase/Murray or Lovitz/Myers/Sandler and not the show's lead. I don't see anyone of the current roster worth while.

If you watch the post nomination sketches, they tend to be sympathetic, if not admiring, of Obama. Much different than how they've portrayed past presidents.

As someone stated earlier, the impressions of Obama weren't the least bit unflattering, or funny for that matter. I'm sure liberal bias plays a huge part, but I have to believe they're also just afraid to do it. Heck, Letterman won't lampoon him, either. He's still going on about the previous administration. I'm sure if Romney wins in 2012, all of a sudden the President will be fodder for comedians again.

I did laugh at "I'm not Robin William". Can't recall how many people I've worked with who constantly get actor (or singers, bands, whatever) names wrong. Once worked with a dude who went around the office telling everyone how upset he was because he just heard Bill Harmon had died. When I said that's too bad but I don't know who that is, he said "you know, the funny guy on the radio show who used to be on Saturday Night live". Took me a few seconds and a wild guess to come up with "you mean Phil Hartman?". And that's how I heard Phil Hartman had died.

You weren't very clear on that in your first post. I get what you are saying, but I think part of the problem is that Obama is 1) Very reserved and controlled in his public appearances (he's not casual and folksy like W. for sure) 2) He's very private and not much comes out about his home life. I guess you can go after his politics or whatever, but I don't think he is giving much ammunition like W. or Clinton did.

Do jokes about being dependent on the teleprompter and/or so "at ease" and "cool" that he kind of floats through chaos without really fixing anything.

They know people are up late and pretty much resort to stoner friendly shit. Segel is actually doing a pretty good job hosting tonight. There are a couple of dead zones in the ep, but I largely blame Wiig. She isn't an unfunny woman, but her limited schtick is pretty tired by now.

Honestly, every time the Muppets showed up my heart got a little warmer. But I like Segel and I've never seen the show he's on so I'm not tired of him a bit yet. And I kind of love FloMash. I haven't watched a lot of SNL in past few years, but I'm glad I caught tonight.

...I think you're stretching for something to complain about. The political spotlight in our country is currently on the Republicans and their primary campaign, so that's where the jokes are. All the things you said about Obama have been done on SNL, and aside from the fact that Obama really isn't all that exciting a public figure to make fun of (for all the reasons pointed out by dougmackenzie), he's just doesn't have the bullseye on his back the way the Republicans do right now.

Armisen's been on since 2002. Meyers has been on since 2001. Kenan since 2003. Wiig, Hader, Samberg, & Sudeikis since 2005. Unless we've heard different, it looks like a bunch of these guys could be leaving next year. I welcome fresh blood. I mean, I was iffy when they brought on Taran Killam, but he has really had his moments. Loved his Eminem & Kutcher impressions. If they can get him some solid original characters then I think he might be able to step up and help anchor the show along with Pedrad, Moynihan, Bayer, & Elliott.

SNL has had a history of wasting its black actors and just dropping them from the cast. I think that Jay is going to be added to that list. Personally, I think that the cast needs more ethnic diversity. Also, a black chick. There's only so long that they can keep dressing up Kenan in a wig. It's funny, but kinda sad too. You know there are a bunch of good comedians of color and SNL just isn't getting them on. For whatever reason.

Meyers has proved on Weekend Update that he's willing to stick it to Obama now and then. I do kind of believe they don't make as much fun of Obama cuz their heart isnt in it, BUT, I don't think Obama allows for it as much because he's sort of boring, at least as far as having some goofy quirks to mock. Bush, Clinton, Bush 2, all kind of had voices or mannerisms worth caricaturing. Obama's just kind of bland outside of dramatic speaking.

And I think that if Mitt Romney were to become president, the same problem will continue for SNL because he is just as boring and private.

Man, that's some bullshit right there. She's an entertainer alright. Say what you want about her looks (and I know you will), but she puts on a hell of a live show. Just ask Glastonbury.

One of my favorite SNL sketches involves Phil Hartman portraying president Reagan commanding his cabinet in the oval office during the Iran-Contra scandal. The funny part being that Reagan is portrayed as the mastermind and the complete opposite of his public persona when behind closed doors. I love that sketch. Crooked Vultures is about the best thing I saw them have in years and that is merely alright! They need to get some good modern hardcore, punk, and metal bands on there. How about Mastodon? Bad Religion? Periphery? I am so sick of this 30-something coffee-shop hipster bullshit they always have!

I FF past the commercials, the musical guest and a number of the skits that were lame -- particularly the retirement sketch and the kissing one. I can watch the entire show in under 40 minutes. The muppets made a good show even better.

I've seen her on as the musical guest TWICE, and singing in sketches, and in EVERY instance she shrieks without nuance at top volume AND is WILDLY off-key throughout. I mean, way way off. Does no one notice this? And yes, saying she's not really a live singer is saying she's not really a good singer period...if you're only good after being pitch-corrected and edited, you're not a good singer.

And Nasim has the most rocking body ever on an SNL lady. In addition, she has a chameleon-like ability to switch into nearly unrecognizable characters. I especially like her as the nerdy kid who worships her parents.

Does anyone find the secret word sketch funny at all? Kissing family may have made me chuckle once the first time I saw it, but is just unbearable now.

But the fact that all you can come up with for an Obama joke is in fact something entirely generic and equally applicable to every President that's been in office during SNL's entire run just reinforces the point - if there's a lack of funny Obama impersonations, it's because Obama himself is, essentially, boring. They could go with the "this guy is a wooden, stuffed shirt, blow hard" trope, but they'd just be repeating all the same jokes the did about Gore, then. Obama is an uninteresting character; this "liberal media" conspiracy, just like all the others, exists only in your imagination.

But I refuse to watch an ad to watch an ad.
