New Russian X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Trailer seems appropriate giving the Cuban Missile Crisis storyline!

Hey folks, Harry here...

Dying to see Matthew Vaughn's X-MEN: FIRST CLASS - this is one of the big Summer films that I'm most in the dark about - having not read the script, nor really knowing the intimate details of the story, but I just have an immense amount of faith in Matthew Vaughn after the films he's delivered thus far.   Watching Banshee's sonic scream in this trailer kind of fucking geeked me out.   But at the same time, I'm wildly curious to see how this "Created" back story for the X-MEN plays out.

There's no doubting that I'm happy I learned fluent Russian after watching RED DAWN and knowing the Russians were coming the next day...  well, it pays off on days like this.  Of course I'm kidding, I only know the most basic of Russian, but it's kind of cool seeing this trailer in Russian given you actually see the old Hammer & Sickle red & yellow flag in the trailer.

I just don't quite have a feel for the film yet.  This really needs to get screened soon - Here's the Russian trailer:

    Awesome trailer !!!

    by KilliK

is it me or XMEN:FC seems that it will turn out to be the best of the upcoming comic-book movies?

  • Because lets face it, what exactly is so mysterious about a film based on a comic book that has been in the public eyes for DECADES!

    Missile Crisis was in 1962...

    by HarryKnowlesNonExistentInceptionReview

...I'm no fashion expert, but from watching Mad Men, I'm pretty sure women weren't wearing miniskirts and go-go boots in 1962. I also don't see how Havok could be Cyclops' brother, father would be more like it with that age difference. Also Mystique is pushing 70 in our current day apparently and that's kind of "ewwwww!" (I won't even get into White Queen being a young woman in this and a teen in Wolverine.)

  • March 15, 2011 7:02 PM CST

@killik: No, it's not just you

    by Smartacus

It's starting to take on the look of something that just might surprise and that can only be seen as a good thing. I look at Thor & Captain America and I feel like I know what I'm going to get from those two. They feel familiar after seeing two Iron Man films and The Incredible Hulk. That's both good and maybe a little bad. Neither one looks like it will be more than what I expect. Green Lantern doesn't look like it's going to be exceptional to me either. Not bad, probably good in fact, but just.... what I expect. This might be better than it has any right to be and that would be extremely cool. I'm looking forward to it.

  • I don't really mind it here, but after this one, seriously, it's enough with Magneto.

    Magneto.

    by GINGE_MUPPET

Everything good in that trailer involved Mags ... I firmly believe he is one of the greatest comic book characters ever created and maybe they should have moved forward with his solo mvie instead of X-Men OC.

  • March 15, 2011 7:34 PM CST

    What I like about that...

    by V'Shael

is that it seems like this story is actually going to show why Magneto and Xavier are so fucking powerful. They both have the smarts to use their respective powers in very intelligent ways. Unlike say, Green Lantern, who far far too frequently just created a giant fist to bash people with. I'm looking forward to this more than GL.

    Fassbender / Action

    by BlackBauer0320

To me, this movie is worth seeing for Fassbender's take on Magneto alone. I'm not sold on McAvoy doesn't quite have me sold, but Fassbender has a commanding presence on screen that seems extremely rare. The simple scene of him forcing the random guard's knife into himself is not one that many people could pull off, in my eyes. Also, to the poster that questioned the lack of action and frequent shots of the group standing around in their civvies...I'm very much okay with that, on multiple levels. How many trailers these days give away some of the best scenes of the movie? And more importantly, this movie's success will be based heavily on its story, not its action scenes. That being said, there will probably be 3 more trailers out before its release that will pander to the demographic and be chock full of action. On a side note - has anyone seen the trailer for Bad Teacher? I loathe Cameron Diaz but that shit looks like comedy gold.

    Re:ginge_muppet

    by xavier masterson

If i'm remembering correctly, I think they just folded the Magneto origins solo film into the in-development First Class script to get what we are seeing here. I agree that Fassbender's Magneto is the real draw here, but I'd also like to see more Kevin Bacon as Sebastien Shaw in the advertising.

    by Rebel Scumb

In the concentration camp scene at the beginning, with young Magneto. As the prisoner pushing the wheelbarrow, that Magneto looks at and sees the number on the arm, to set up the call back later in the movie. I always like to think of myself as Magneto's motivation.

He gave us a lot of info on the movie back then (it was the second scene shot, and before they had cast Hugh Jackman to replace Dougray scott). I submitted a scoop to AICN at the time, but they didn't run it.

Should be in EVERY X-Men movie, even if he isn't the villain in the film. Point in fact, he is still Xavier's friend, even if he has a different political point of view. There's been many times Magneto has had to work with the X-Men out of necessity. He doesn't hate the X-Men, he just doesn't like them being in the way of his plans.

I didn't know the Cuban Missile Crisis was part of the story (been avoiding spoilers, thanks Harry ;) ). I think that extra level of historical realism might give this film a more interesting backdrop. I kinda wish this was a full reboot, as I don't really want lots of references and setups for the future films to get in the way of the real story (e.g. the Death Star plans in AOTC).

    by NightArrows

Even if this movie is outstanding, which I doubt it will be (though the trailer is well done and makes me want to care), it leads into garbage. X-Men 1 is a complete waste, with moments of decent. Part 2 is a complete waste with moments of decent. Part 3 is a fucking scalding cup of shit. So at this point, I can't honestly care. It's not the First Class, and yeah, that's nitpicking, but it's revisionist bullshit. Though they ruined Cyclops and Jean anyways so have at it. Why not add The Punisher to the team and The Green Goblin? If Galactus can be a Cloud, add the Sentinels and make them giant tables. It's also from Fox, so supporting this film is akin to helping cancer.

So does everyone love Fassbender because of...

    by Rebel Scumb

...Inglorious basterds? Not that I have anything against the guy, he was really good in that movie, but it seems like all of a sudden everyone's talking about him. "Fassbender sold me on First class", "I wasn't sure about Prometheus, but now that Fassbender has been cast, I feel more optimistic.." I'm seeing a lot of that lately. I looked him up on imdb, other thant Inglorious Basterds, nothing really stands out. Again, the guy seems like a cool new actor, and his handfull of scenes in IB were good, I'm just surprised by the overwelming confidence he seems to inspire in people based on one movie, that he was only in about 20minutes of.

  • March 16, 2011 9:52 AM CST

BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER - calling this movie First Class

    by fat_rancor_keeper

Since they obviously wanted to go for something different why the hell did they stick on a title that is synonymous with the original core XMen????????? Most of the crap that gets shoveled on this movie is related to people complaining about the different characters and how this isnt like the First Class comics. If they had simply called this X-Men: The Beginning (which is really what it is) or some bullshit like that then so much of the backlash couldve been avoided.

    by Rebel Scumb

Thanks for the heads up, I've never even heard of either of these movies. And I'm not in anyway doubting about Fassbender, like I said, he definitely seems like he has a lot of potential, and I've been given no reason to think otherwise, I was just a bit suprised how much cred he seems to have earned, without having done very much yet, but didn't know about these 2 films so that makes a bit more sense. I agree about Hardy also. Until Inception, I only knew him as the badguy from star trek:nemesis, which was awful, but I remember even when I read an interview with the ST cast bashing the movie, they all said the only good thing in the entire movie was that they got to work work Tom Hardy, and they all thought he would be the next big thing.

    Hunger: Directed by Steve McQueen???

    by Rebel Scumb

I can only assume this is not the deceased actor Steve McQueen... Maybe next there will be a director named Paul Newman, or Bruce Willis, to make everything more confusing. But all joking aside, I was assuming from the title Hunger would be some type of vampire or zombie direct to video movie, but I do really like IRA related stuff, so I will have to check this out. All the better if there are hot Irish girls in it. I could listen to them read the phone book, as long as they do it with that accent...

It is a Russian trailer, and thanks to Clint Eastwood they don't have firefox anymore. BTW, looks very promising...When you add up the pluses vs. the minuses, it warrants excitement

Wierd. The more I see, the more I like it. Period stuff seems to be a great fit with superheroes. I hope for more of these.

  • ...really been any good superhero movies made. I think X2 is one of the best sequels ever made, that movie hits all the notes really well, who cares if its not accurate to the comicbook continuity, its a movie, it has its own continuity it can play within. The 3rd one was definitely not as good as the others, but no where near as awful as people make it out to be, and still had some good moments. The wolverine spinoff was pretty bad, but to be fair, no worse than a lot of the actual X-men comics I've read over the years. I think this looks like it could be a really good installment, might even be up there with X2 I'm still hiping though they start moving the franchise forward and do an X4 instead of just prequels.

    I'm also just now getting a positive vibe . . .

. . . and I've been coming down on this thing hard. I still can't stand which muties they picked for this, but looking back at the first films, I guess it's never been perfect. Guess I figured Vaughn would have insisted on the REAL first team, since it's kind of a fresh start here. And it's weird that just last night I first saw that ginger in the The Last Exorcism and today I see him playing Banshee.

Obviously your ability to comprehend anything beyond a 2nd grade reading level is what "sucks ass." As I stated, the video opened right up in Safari, Apple's proprietary browser. But you probably don't know what proprietary means, or open source for that matter, so let me put it into terms you can relate to: You are a moron.
