INSIDE MOVES.
I have never seen Inside Moves. Guess it's goin in the olke Netflix queue!
... before he milked that wacky Lethal Weapon cow dry! The first was good for the times, but the rest were terrible. C'mon Donner, admit the sequels were lame.
His interviews are always chatty and honest. He does seem to hold grudges, but at the same time the emotional investment he seems to put into his projects makes it feel justified. I certainly can't imagine a someone like Ratner giving a shit about getting kicked off a franchise he helped build by asshole producers...but then again, Ratner's the kind of hack that would have taken the vacant chair on Superman II and not given a shit. I think I saw Inside Moves on TV as a kid, but honestly can't recall. I'll have to check it out.
im interested in what he has to say about this...
Donner: you have NOT raped my childhood, unlike Lucas and Spielberg. Your Superman film is still the best one... and Inside Moves was an amazing film.

yeah thats right - who cares about another 'im too old for this shit'...all any self respecting movie geek wants from Mel is FURY ROAD! I cant believe it didnt happen what with all the other 80s action stars coming out for their belated 4th installment (Willis, Ford, Sly)...i mean wasnt it all ready to go with Miller directing again in 2001 or thereabout?? then there was something about the war stopping it? did i dream this or what?.. i can understand Gibson not wanting to do LW 5 as hes already done his belated 4th LW 10 years ago (and that felt like a needless add on...no mullet either! that was as bad as no hair on McClane in DH 4.0...in fact wasnt it fast tracked into production cause Warners had a gap in their summer shedual due to Burtons Superman Lives falling through?)...but Mad Max 4 could have been amazing...funny thing is they tried to make him look older in Road Warrior and Thunderdome with grey hair etc...now he is actually older and beat up looking he dosnt wanna do it?? WTF?! Surely it can still happen...i know Mel is doing stuff like Edge of Darkness etc but he really needds a big fat blockbuster to blast him back to the big time after that drinking episode (imagine being in a car in Malibu that night - pootling about doing 30 on your way home when suddenly MAD MAX drives past doing 90 with the cops in hot pursuit!!)... a hard R rated Miller directed Mad Max 4 would blast him back - esp if its more Road Warrior than Thunderdome... c'mon Mel...DO IT!!
...because of his two Superman movies. Both just such incredible movies that to this day continue to be the standard for modern day Superhero movies, dare I say any great genre film. No doubt he still gets countless fans that tell him to this day how much those movies have influenced them into making movies and whatnot.
Have you copied this to the New York Times yet? That's a hell of a recommendation!
Every movie he has done...even the ones that are kind of bad...he has a very rational, well thought out reasoning for WHY he does what he does, why the script reads the way it does, and why he chose certain actors etc. He's very clever...he tries to invest a bit of heart in everything he does. INSIDE MOVES, although much different than the novel, is just a great, great movie.
This movie shouldn't work, but does. It gave me a huge crush on Diana Scarwid when it first came out. And I thought of David Morse as the guy in this movie for a very long time after.
Joel Silver?
Yes.
Two absolutely fucking phenomenal movies. Mr Donner, I salute you.
Anyone interested in PSO - or great (read: batshit insane) behind-the-scenes movie stories - should check out "From Cowboy to Mogul to Monster: The Neverending Story of Film Pioneer Mark Damon" by...MARK DAMON! It's over 500 pages, bounces around through a chronology like a drunken timelord, but by the end, you'll have all the backstory you need to understand Donner's comments on PSO. And great interview as usual, beakerz. Funny as hell to read just how ever-integrated the Laszlo/Vilmos friendly rivalry was day-to-day.
Two movies that benefit from improvisation. And I have a feeling that Donner had a lot to do with that.
I wish all the DVDs for his movies had commentary. :-(
will have to get that dvd
for The Banana Splits.
Why, yes, I will have another.
Jesus?..do you ever look at other websites..do you see ONE fucking website that uses big bold red fonts??? What are you writing for 1996?? Jesus. Your fucking reviews are impossible to read
is a man's man and Joel Silver, Yes I said it! Joel Silver is a world class douche bag. Everybody knows it and I don't give two shits about him. I hope the film gets done without silver. I hope he continues to butt fuck the Wachowski's to their falling careers. I can't wait to see another Lethal Weapon or whatever Richard wishes to do with Mel Gibson. I wish the theatrical version of PAYBACK comes to blu ray. I love that film.

I just heard it's definitely happening.
between Joel and Dick.
Amazon, making fat fuck rich since 1999.
call yourseleves movie fans? tsk *shakes head*
yeah i see the trailer already... clips of Max from the previous 3 with voice over from MM2 (the grown up ferrel kid...'but most of all..I remember The Road Warrior...he lives now..only in my memories...'...then camara blasts onto a new interceptor (similar to opening MM2 shot) being pursued by battered old cop cars with sirens going...camara zooms in on Gibson at the wheel looking all of his 50 years with stubble and greying hair at the sides..looks p i s s e d off....then showy fast cuts showing stuff like the apocalyptic wastelands, ruined citys, huge gangs in cars and trucks, max in beat up black leathers blowing scum away with a sawn off..turns to camara and blasts it...dark...then titles come up: MAX MAX: FURY ROAD...A George Miller film..starring Mel Gibson, Eric Bana, etc etc...Summer 2011....rated R oh yeah.. make it happen...
I care, Mr Sulu, I care.
especially now the aging action man thing is in full flow with Sly & Co doing The Expendables and Mel is kinda the right age for an Angry Max now
It's amazing, but unlike you and me and a few others on A.I.C.N., hardly anyone else seems to get excited for a 4'th Max movie from Miller. I guess that's not only because Thunderdome has very few admirers, it's also because of the backlash against Gibbo, but most of all because the most that post on here are in their early twenties, so never saw the Max films at the cinema like us older cats did. I've given up hope for Fury Road, with or without Mel. But if there's one film I would like to see get made, it's that one. I has never even heard about Inside Moves, but it sounds like a film worth checking out, and yes, the first 2 Superman films are also my favourite comic-book movies, to hell with those Bat Bale movies.

Well fucking said.
I'll explain why in the ensuring 9986 posts.
summary: he has no talent.
but after reading your post i think i just did.... sad but true...i get the impression most posters on film sites in general (not just aicn) were born in the mid/late 80s, even later and have absolutly no fucking idea who or what Mad Max is..let alone stuff like Evil Dead, Snake Plissken, original star trek films, the christopher reeve superman etc etc... Time is the fire in which we burn...(i bet most dont know what that is from either).... id love to see a poster like this in theatres and all over the net next summer: http://img437.imageshack.us/img437/7458/madmaxfuryroad1oy.jpg
...is a really touching film. I know it got ripped a new one by most critics, but I think it was really misunderstood. Donner's great. He isn't what he used to be, but I'll keep going to his movies if he keeps making them.
I love Inside Moves. Seen it as a betamax video copy decades ago. Stuck with me since.
This is one of the best pieces I've read on AICN. I haven't seen the film and I'm seeking it out. Donner seems like such a great guy. And Beaks.. very good interview!
The link you gave seems to be dead, curious though about what it was. Well, I think actually a lot of younger movie fans do know the Evil Dead, Donner Superman films etc., but in general they won't be as big as fans as us who saw those films in the theaters. Nostalgia no doubt plays a big role in that as well, films you see at an early age, especially the genre movies tend to have a big impact that will last for the rest of your life. For millions of twenty-something movie fans Jurassic Park is their all-time genre classic, most of them no doubt saw that when they were kids, that's just the way these things work. Our movie heroes were Max, the Gyro captain, Wez, Humungus and Ash, the younger folks have Dr. Ian Malcolm, John Hammond, Neo and the Oracle. It's cool haha.
http://img437.imageshack.us/img437/7458/madmaxfuryroad1oy.jpg - try that link... yes i suppose we as aging fanboys got the better deal growing up in the 80s when there was 2 or 3 classic Sci Fi films EVERY YEAR...with heroes like Indy, Solo, Max, Ash, Snake, Mac, movie Kirk & Spock, Reeve's Superman, Bixbys Banner etc etc etc...in the 90s there wasnt so much great stuff - i mean there was stuff in the very early 90s like like Total Recall, T2, Army of Darkness, Star Trek VI etc but nothing much after...as you say JP LOL...they must think Dr Ian Malcolm is the height of coolness PAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH...i bet their waiting with baited breath for JP IV starring their childhood hero Goldblum!!..i can see the AICN boards in 5 years when they announce JP IV with Goldblum and you get all the 20 somethings who were born in the late 80s creaming their pants over it like us lot did when Brando was announced for Superman Returns or Nimoy in the new trek - HAHAHAHAHAHAH

just google images ‘Fury Road poster’ and its the 1st image ....im guessing that AICN dosnt like links to stuff?
It's a movie for the outlaw in all of us. Amazing.
... notice the words under the box where you're typing the talkback comments? See where they say, "If you're going to post an URL in your comment, go to TinyURL.com"? Mystery solved.
got it...
Alright, I saw the fan-made poster, it's nice but I don't think those new Fury Road posters would look like that, re-using pics. of Mel and the dog from the Road Warrior poster ! Cool design though, thanks for sharing.
He's made some piss-poor movies in his time, but a lot of directors have. His good stuff far out-weighs his crap. I'd love to see him do this stuff again.
And thank you Mr. Beaks for the great interview!
