A glance at THE ANTWONE FISHER STORY

Hey there everyone... Here’s an interesting project
that I haven’t heard all that much about, but has
tweaked my attention a bit.
It’s one of them Fox Searchlight flicks that’s in a
preliminary state at the moment, but... ya just know
it’s gonna get moving.
Right now, it’s called THE ANTWONE FISHER
STORY.
Who?
Antwone Fisher. Well he’s not only the subject
matter, but also one of the screenwriters. (Alongside
Tom ‘ONE FALSE MOVE’ Epperson) Apparently
he was one of them Chief Petty Officers that was
nearly discharged from the Navy for an antagonistic
and belligerent manner. Kind of think of a bull in a
china shop. He was ordered into counseling where he
begins dealing with a VERY troubling past (which
includes murder and molestation) and sets upon a
better future.
Yeah yeah, I know... Sounds a bit angst ridden I
know. However, the director is Denzel
Washington.... and it is that aspect that has me a bit
excited. Not only that, but he’s got the duty to find a
great mid-twenties Black actor that won’t disappear
into the woodwork opposite him. Ya see, he’s not
only directing, but playing the Naval psychologist
that pries into Antwone’s past and gets him to step
out of his shell. (Boy does that sound like a Robin
Williams role or what?)
Denzel is one of my fave actors, and I’m a bit curious
to see what he’ll bring to an overall production.
Actors are interesting directors sometimes. I don’t
know about you, but I loved THAT THING YOU
DO that Tom Hanks directed. Just so long as the
entire film doesn’t get shot in close-ups (Stallone) or
entirely in long shots (Costner). There is a happy
medium.
