Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some more video goodies on this day that has seen the trailer for CURSED, the behind the scenes video for the WALLACE AND GROMMIT movie and now the first 5 minutes of ELEKTRA.
Hrmm... Now while I will admit that the cinematography is better in that clip than I expected (as the trailer made the film look flat, but somehow weirdly overbright) I'm really finding it hard to get excited about this movie. The 5 minutes above is over-the-top, but it's leaning more in the direction of CATWOMAN over-the-top instead of LEON over-the-top.
Now, I won't see this movie until the Thursday before release (ie a day's notice), which doesn't bode well for the studio's faith in the movie since that's usually a way for a studio to have a sneak for the press without the print press being able to run their reviews until after the opening of the film, so I can't say for sure. I'm just telling you the feeling I'm getting from the trailers and clips.
Now, I HAVE seen the other film ELEKTRA's opening against on the 14th and I can say that it deserves your time, your money and your excitement. I'll be reviewing ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 in the next day or two, but let me tell you that I was NOT looking forward to the movie at all, being the Carpenter purist I am. I love the original and thought it was stupid to change the gang members to rogue cops and thought the trailer showed a movie without the chewing nails grit of the original. Boy was I wrong. It's a brutal, gritty, dark and yet extremely entertaining barrel of old-school fun. Even if ELEKTRA turns out to be a fun movie, I can all but guarantee that it won't be a pimple on the ass of ASSAULT.
