An early look at HALLOWEEN 8: HOMECOMING

Hey folks, Harry here with a report on the latest HALLOWEEN movie... but folks, I'm really not interested in another HALLOWEEN movie, but I'll tell you about a flick you have to track down. It's called BUTCHER BAKER NIGHTMARE MAKER aka NIGHT WARNINGS aka MOMMY'S BOY. This film screened last night at the Alamo Drafthouse, where not a single person in the nearly packed audience had so much as even heard a peep about the film. Folks, this movie is the DEAD ALIVE of the Slasher Genre. Just a balls deep funny as hell intense squirm-arama. The audience was screaming, laughing and hooting through the entire film. YOU MUST SEE THIS FILM!!! Bo Svenson is a god in this movie. Fucking aces. Really great. Now here's a report on what sounds like a mediocre HALLOWEEN sequel...

hey harry,

just got back from seeing HALLOWEEN:THE HOMECOMING, though one of the questions they asked was "what do you think is a good title" and they offered "great" suggestions like THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS, VENGENCE OF MICHAEL MYERS, LOW FAT CARB DIET OF MICHAEL MYERS, etc..., etc...

this is the first review ive sent in since VIRUS (another "great" jamie lee performance) and this film is the defination of mediocrity.

it felt like, and probably was, the result of so many reshoots and reedits. i've read the reports of AIC and other websites and so much of what i read was not in this version of the film.

i've read so many different versions of the opening scene. in this version - SPOILER WARNING - jaime lee DOES die. unlike other reports i read, she does NOT escape in a truck she falls into, she does not tell michael he'll never find her son, she doesnt say much except that she has to be sure it's really him (surprisingly, through old footage and "new" flashbacks, the explanation of mikie's switcheroo in H20 is less silly than it seems. but anyway, she's dead, all her work in the last film is useless, and there's no connection to the rest of the film.

cut to the real plot - cliched 20 year olds agree to spend the night in the old myer house. once again, i was more interested in what i read in other test screenings. there was no twist ending, busta rymes did NOT die, there was no donald pleasance-ish detective (which i read somewhere was named donaldson, see "son-of-donald-ha ha" character). no scene matched the previous scene --

which leads me to my main question - how much did they shoot and reshoot? it felt like mick's mask was different in every scene. when he's chasing jamie in the hallway it's almost like he has "heat miser's" hair. yet in the next scen on the roof he has the slicked back hair from the reshoots of H20. sometime's it looks like the mask was smiling and other times frowning. .

also, they make a big deal at the beginning that he fucked up the paramedic, put his mask on him, switched uniforms and left. but of course now he's wearing the jumpsuit again. i guess he went to k-mart and bought a bunch on sale.

anyway, the film was pretty average. i'd like to know the history, if anyone's got it, of the different versions, and how much was reshot.
