Disney/Lucasfilm Developing STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC Movie!

Yesterday, it was announced that Lucasfilm had tapped Laeta Kalogridis to write a KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC trilogy. This is great news for a whole lot of reasons. First, and primarily, KOTOR is one of the most beloved and richly layered extensions of the STAR WARS universe, and it has been (aside from a deleted scene in THE CLONE WARS featuring Darth Revan) pretty much ignored in cinematic ventures. It's one of the most critically acclaimed video games in history, and fans have clamored for even the slightest splinter of new KOTR-related material almost since the original 2003 release. A lot of people are going to be very excited by this news.

The other reason this is great news is that Laeta Kalogridis is a PHENOMENAL screenwriter. Her writing credits include the 2002-3 DC Universe series BIRDS OF PREY, 2004's ALEXANDER, 2010's mind-bending thriller SHUTTER ISLAND (a favorite film of mine in the mystery/thriller category), TERMINATOR: GENISYS (hey, everything can't be a hit), and was the writer AND creator of ALTERED CARBON... an intensely well-written show, IMO.

Oh, and she wrote the screenplay for the smash-hit anime adaptation, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL.

She was also the Executive Producer of a small film you may have heard of, called AVATAR.

Reports say that she's finishied up the first draft of a KOTOR trilogy of films. If these reports are true, we stand to see a TON of lore added to STAR WARS' canon: Armies of Sith and their acolytes, whole battle groups of Jedi, the Jedi Academy, and more will likely turn up in the films... and I can't wait for it.

That's it for now, so until next time,
Keep it geek!
