Casting News on David Lowery's "GREEN KNIGHT"

Hola Dannie aqui,

A couple of days ago the folks at Variety broke the news that David Lowery ("A Ghost Story," "Petes Dragon," and "St. Nick") is in talks with actor Dev Patel to cast Patel in "GREEN KNIGHT." "Green Knight" is based on the tale of "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" a late 14th-century chivalric romance, and one of the most well known Arthurian stories. J.R.R. Tolkien, Simon Armitage and many other writers have tackled the tale. The tale of the Green Knight has lived on through stories both on stage and film. Now it is director David Lowery's chance to put his spin on the "Green Knight."

Wikipedia describes the tale as-

"It describes how Sir Gawain, a knight of King Arthur's Round Table, accepts a challenge from a mysterious "Green Knight" who challenges any knight to strike him with his axe if he will take a return blow in a year and a day. Gawain accepts and beheads him with his blow, at which the Green Knight stands up, picks up his head and reminds Gawain of the appointed time. In his struggles to keep his bargain, Gawain demonstrates chivalry and loyalty until his honour is called into question by a test involving Lady Bertilak, the lady of the Green Knight's castle."

If Dev Patel is cast as the Sir Gawain, it will be an unexpectedly forward move, as in the past the role of the character has been cast by white Anglo-Saxons. Perhaps Lowery will have kind of a twist on the tale having Dev reading the story to a child, and the child imagining his father as Sir Gawain. I think that would be a beautiful way to compose the tale and nonoffensive to all.

Production on David Lowery's "Green Knight" is set to start in April. What do all of you out there in Geeklandia think of the news?
