Director Simon West (CON AIR, THE EXPENDABLES 2) has been discussing his recently announced remake of THE BLOB, offering our first sense of what kind of film we may have in store for us.
Interestingly, it sounds like he may be sculpting THE BLOB’s relatively cheesy source material in some smart and promising ways.
“Yeah, it’s definitely going to be on a much bigger canvas than the originals, which were much more small, niche genre horror movies. “

"This Blob will be more sophisticated, more along the lines of Alien and Predator and things like that: much more science-based, the way Jurassic Park made you believe you could bring back dinosaurs with a bit of DNA from a mosquito. This will be a much more sophisticated creature, with more explanation of where it comes from. It's a monster movie rather than a horror in that sense.”

Unless I’ve somehow totally overlooked this point, I’m not sure a writer has been selected for the project - which also has no release date at this time. West apparently has one more film to generate before diving full-force into THE BLOB, which may account for such details not yet being set.
